Chapter 1
Chapter 1 "Don't tell me you're already tired? We're just getting started." My father's business rival smirked. "Let me rest for a bit, please." I pleaded, closing my eyes as I tried to catch my breath from everything he did to me. It's really happening now, and there's no turning back. This man whom I hate in both this life and my previous one, is about to claim me. Yes, that's right, this is my second life. I don't know how to explain the mystery that happened to me, but I returned to the age of twenty after dying and living again. And ever since I woke up in this situation, all I could think about is making the people who caused my death in my previous life pay, and that includes none other than my family and my despicable ex-fiancé, Alec Thompson. To do that, I need this man who wants to possess me now. Damian Yvañez-Vladimir, a business magnate known in the shopping center industry nationwide and in some parts of Asia. A thirty-three-year-old head-turner bachelor known for his reputation as a player who broke the hearts of many women who tried to win him over. All of them failed and left with a broken heart trying to tame the hottest bachelor in town, if not the whole country. The youngest of four children of Mr. and Mrs. Vladimir, and the only unmarried one among the siblings. His reputation as the hottest womanizer has been consistent for as long as I can remember. His name has always been in the news every time he breaks someone's heart. He's been in relationships with famous artists, models, athletes, and politicians' daughters. Ever since I was young, I've heard Damian's name at home as my father's competition in business. As far as I can remember, his anger towards him intensified when Damian won the bid for a 45-hectare commercial land that now houses one of the branches of the Majestic Centre. That branch was the reason why my father's mall in that area went bankrupt and had to close down. Recently, Damian has been expanding his business empire to hotels, which further infuriated my father, Agustus Ortiz. I am Felicity Romero-Ortiz, the daughter of Agustus Ortiz, a business tycoon who lost his title as the richest man in the shopping center industry to Damian Vladimir, the reason why he has an intense hatred towards him. He couldn't accept that Damian, a newcomer, overshadowed the almost six-decade influence of the Ortiz family in the chosen field of business. Several shopping malls owned by our family closed down because they were overshadowed by what Damian built, and that's just in thirteen years. So, it was strictly instructed by my father never to have any dealings with the Vladimir family and to treat them as enemies. It seems to be the family’s motto for us, Ortizs, to bring down the young businessman. Well, my father doesn't need to say that because I do hate Damian Vladimir. I've been with him at charity functions, and he's a mean jerk! If I didn't need him for my revenge, I wouldn't even approach him. In my first life, I was married to Alec. All those years I thought we were the happy love birds our friends called us. In our eighteen years of marriage, I thought nothing could separate us. But all of that was just an illusion. Our whole marriage was a lie. Because the man I love, the man I thought loves me more than anything in this world, has been having an affair with my sister even before we got married. Samantha Ortiz, she's not my biological sister, she's my stepsister, the child of my stepmother's first husband. But she was adopted by my father, so she carries the Ortiz surname. We grew up together, and I admit that we didn't get along from the start. At some point, I understood why she desperately wanted to get my father's attention and love. She grew up without recognizing a father, so she tried hard to impress my father. But things got worse when she started copying everything I do. I started learning ballet at the age of five, and when Samantha found out about it, she also begged to go to a ballet school. We were eight years old by then, and my father immediately agreed, saying it would make us closer as siblings. Of course, I was happy about it, but throughout our ballet class, she never joined me. She was busy making friends with others, which was fine for me because I wanted her to have many friends too. Until I noticed that my circle of friends in ballet was slowly disappearing, they became Samantha's friends. At that time, I didn't think much about it, but now, maybe she sabotaged me to my friends in ballet. I also noticed later on that Samantha was always ahead of me in inviting our father to our recitals, even though we agreed to invite him together. My father also praised Samantha, even though I received the award for being the best ballerina in our batch. After two years, I decided to stop ballet classes to find another hobby, and that's when I started playing tennis. I played tennis throughout high school and even joined competitions. And guess what? Samantha also joined the women's tennis club during our high school years, and I don't need to tell what happened next. I quit during our senior years because of how annoying Samantha has become. Whether at school or at home, she's irritating, though I never confronted her about it. During these times, Samantha has mastered how to get my father's attention, and don't get me wrong, I was close to my father before he remarried and brought Gina and her daughter, Samantha, into our home. It's just that every time I was about to speak up to my father about my day, Samantha would interrupt and I wouldn't be given a chance to talk. But when it comes to grades, I can outshine her because surprisingly, despite Samantha's attempts to copy my hobbies and interests, she can't match my academic excellence. I graduated top of my class in high school and college. I still remember how she looked at me with disdain when my father celebrated because I graduated with flying colors. Around my senior year in college, I met Alec Thompson at one of the charity events hosted by Gina, and during our private dinner, my father and Alec's father announced their plan for the two of us to get engaged. I was over the moon because the truth was, I fell in love at first sight with Alec, and during that time, I also thought he felt the same for me. During that dinner, I saw Samantha stealing glances at Alec several times, but I didn't pay much attention to it because I truly believed that Alec loved me too. But I was so wrong. I remember what Samantha said during our first life, after so many years of their deception towards me when I caught them in the act. "He never loves you!" Samantha shouted at me. I felt my heart shatter into countless pieces upon hearing those words. "Is it true, Alec?" I turned to my husband, his cheeks flushed from my slap. "I'm sorry, Fel. I tried. I really did, but it's just not there. It's only dad who wanted us to get married for his and Uncle Agustus's business." That moment, it felt like they killed me because of the immense pain of what they did. "Daddy!" Jason, Samantha's son, hugged Alec, clearly surprised to see me here at his mom's condo. "Daddy?" I repeated. "Yes, Felicity. It's time for you to know the truth. Jason is our son. It wasn't true when I said before that he's the result of a one-night stand. Jason is our child!" Tears kept streaming down my cheeks upon hearing what Samantha said. That's why in our eighteen years of marriage, it seemed like he had no interest in building a family with me. If not for my father's suspicions, we wouldn't have tried to have a child after five years of marriage. He always had excuses, saying he was saving up money even though both of our incomes were stable because we both worked for our family companies. And that's why when I had three miscarriages, he seemed indifferent. I thought we just had different ways of grieving, so he drowned himself in work and always worked overtime. Little did I know he was going home to someone else. And Jason is already twelve years old, that means that during the times we were trying to have a child, he was also trying to start a family with someone else. "This will reach Dad and Mr. Thompson!" I told them. "Go on!" Samantha challenged me, still bold as ever. "So you'll be surprised that Dad and Mr. Tan support our relationship." She told me without remorse. I kept shifting my gaze between Alec and Samantha. I don't believe this! How could they do this to me? To confirm Samantha's words, I went to see Dad at home. He no longer managed the family businesses, it was his son with Gina, Samuel who’s managing it. While driving, I remembered the events of the past years. That's why whenever Alec had a business trip out of town or abroad, it was a coincidence that Samantha was also there for sightseeing. I didn't doubt it at the time because Samantha was always with her friends, and she always posted photos online of her being in these places with friends, but now it makes sense. Perhaps they were secretly meeting there and doing all sorts of betrayals behind my back. I stopped the car several times because my eyes blurred from the tears that wouldn't stop falling. It took me almost an hour to reach Dad's house, which should have only been a fifteen-minute ride. He's my last hope to tell me that everything is just a horrible joke. But the words that came out from my own father stabbed me. "It's your fault that despite your long years together, you couldn't make your husband love you!" he yelled. He never yelled at me like this, which added to the pain I was feeling. "Hon, calm down." Gina tried to stop him, but I could see the smirk on her lips. "So you knew? You knew that Alec and Samantha had a child, but you kept it from me? You made me look like a fool all these years? While I was busy preparing Jason's birthdays, buying him gifts, and babysitting him countless times here, you knew he was the child of my cheating husband and your flirtatious daughter?" I yelled at them. "Hey, my daughter is not a flirt!" Gina said. "Your husband just didn't love you from the start!" She emphasized. I was about to yell something back, but Dad intervened. He asked his wife to leave so we could talk privately. "You know Mr. Thompson's only son is Alec, and he favors him. He wanted to have grandchildren from him, but you failed to give him that! You couldn't even do that much!" Dad blamed me. "How could you say that to me?" Tears streamed down my face. He knows I lost three babies during my marriage. Alec and I tried. So why was he blaming me? Didn't he know how much I suffered during my third miscarriage, and when the doctor said I might not be able to have children anymore? I fell into a deep depression, and instead of comforting me, my husband was somewhere else, with my sister and their child? We exchanged hurtful words with Dad repeatedly before I decided to leave because clearly, he wasn't siding with me. He wouldn't choose his flesh and blood if it meant going against his son. If he were on my side, he wouldn't have hidden my husband's affair from me. But perhaps cheaters do side with cheaters. He also cheated on Mom, and worst of all, when she was battling cancer, it turns out Dad had someone else. "Thank goodness the abortifacients we gave her before work." I froze in place upon hearing Gina's words.
