I woke up early and had to clear a few things with my Nanny I wasn't sure for how long Bravyn would keep me at Play City.I had to leave my household in order.
I packed a small backpack, three expensive dresses, and silver and gold chains.I set aside valuables to sell when times were tough. I reasoned that I should appear more like a super-classical model who is capable if he asks me out to dinner than like a beggar in tatters.
I had developed a slight headache; I had no answer to my dilemma, and there was no way I could cancel this trip. The Big Boss had called, and because I am a church rat, I have to follow the rules. If I don't, I will have to sell the two chains I have left as I struggle to survive.
There was a loud knick on my door, and I knew that was the cany guy who was supposed to take me to the airport to take me to Play City." Hello, the guy said," I am here to pick you up; you have a 6:Am !".
"I will be with you in a moment!" I told the chauffeur.Given how long it had been since my last date with a man, I felt irritated.
I paused to catch a glimpse of myself in the mirror one more time before I dimmed the lights. My attempt to apply my makeup, which seemed excessive but not excessively garish, had taken me an entire hour. I was dressed in a strapless dress made of silk with a flower pattern that reached just above my knees. It was neither too tight nor too loose. I added my round gold-colored earrings and the one and only genuine gold-thinned chain to complete my appearance. I wore my stilettos,a mere three-inch heel, just to look the part. In comparison to the people I was going to meet, I was averagely smart, but did it really matter?
I slung the thin strap of my small purse on my shoulders. I held my backpack in my hands and hoped I wasn't overdoing it.I got in at the back of the cab and closed my eyes. I had no idea how long we had been driving when, all of a sudden, the cab guy was telling me to get up because my plane was waiting
"My jet is waiting; this guy could be a joke," I said, shaking my head. "The urgency of this date is screaming even up in the clouds!".
It was my first time inside a jet, but it didn't excite me. All I did was close my eyes very tightly and not open them for the next 45 minutes as I contemplated how risky it was to be up there with no place to run to in case the engine jammed. Overall, the fact that I did not open my eyes until we landed was very helpful.
"Why are we landing in a bush?" I asked. Peeping through the window, I saw the runaway had two other jets, but the surrounding area was filled with shrubs and long grass.
"This is it!" The pilot told me and shrugged his shoulders.
The lobby where we landed was small and unprepossessing; vividly, I could see it was not an official terminal. With its drooping potted plants and ugly chairs, it was private and only had two jets on the runway.
"My name is Gainty; follow me, please!" This not very young man said, Take my backpack and lead the way.
I followed, and a black limousine awaited. He opened the door. And as I bowed down slightly to get into the car, I was met by a pair of dark eyes that seemed eager to see me. I hesitated and stood back.
"Shelby Darling, get in the car, please!" That familiar voice of Bravyn Damien vibrated, and fear crawled all over me.
I was there, so I gathered all my courage to enter, and I made sure I was on the edge of my seat. Gainty almost crushed my fingers when he closed the limousine door.
Bravyn also moved to the edge, placing his once-open hands on the sides and standing straight at the partition that divided the driver's compartment with his.He wore a casual elegance suit that was specifically tailored for him as it fit in all the right places. He was good-looking, but there was that ruthless tinge evident on his dark, tanned face.
I hope you are settled now. I would love it if you relaxed. I don't bite!" Bravyn said, shifting to place one of his legs on top of the other and resting his arm on the comfortable couch, and he went ahead to unbutton two top buttons of his shirt.
"I think I have." I sighed and took a long breath.
"How was your journey here?" Bravyn said he was resting his shoulders on the chair's backrest.
Terrifying! I closed my eyes throughout!" I said, stealing a glance at him.
"Don't you worry; you will get used to that, and I must commend you; you really are beautiful, darling!" Bravyn said, raking me from top to bottom. He made me uneasy; the way he passed his tongue on his lips made my heart pound. I don't know about fear or emotions.
"Aren't you going to say anything?" He asked when I did not reply to his praises.
Ooh, I'm sorry. Thank you. It's not every day we travel, so this time I had to look my best!" I said, and my consciousness was screaming at me. If you are here to reject him, stay formal and stop explaining yourself; he will start getting comfortable.
"I knew my darling couldn't be that mannerless; the Shelby I know is perfect!" He says he's running those long fingers over his head.
"My name is Shelby Blackwood, and you can call me Sarah or Sarry, whichever suits you, sir!" I snickered. The way he kept calling me darling was cutting on my skin, and I didn't like the feeling; it was irritating.
"Hilarious, I call you Shelby, and you call me Bravyn or Damien. Forget Sir!" He said he was shifting from his usual sitting stance and moving closer to me.
"You are my boss; calling you by your name is a lack of manners. I will be uncomfortable doing so, Sir," I said, repeating the Sir intentionally to irk him.
"Okay, great to meet you, Shelby!" Bravyn said, bending forward and reaching out for my hand, and then, after wetting his lips, he kissed me.But his lips were cold, and Sarah fought the sensations that came with them.
"Pleasure to meet you, sir," I said, fixating my gaze at the barrier in front of us.
Then Gainty opened a small window and said," We are at the restaurant, boss. Are you getting in immediately, or should I check if everything is alright?"
I thought I told you I didn't want to be anywhere near Play City!" I interrupted foolishly; I could not believe I was walking around the city with half-naked girls in the streets without care.
"Allow me to play the host, and you are my guest; whatever happens, hold on to my elbow unless I ask you to stop!" He said it and laughed loudly. I didn't catch a joke or the humor in what he was saying, so I just stared back.
Okay, I see." I nodded.
He opened his door and rushed to open mine. I picked up my backpack, but he handed it to Gainty. "Put this in my car and thank you. You are dismissed. See you in the hotel!" He told him.
One look at me, and he smiled. He raised his arm so I could lock his elbow, but unintentionally or not, I felt the hardness of his elbow against my breast, which caused my body to tremble as if I had been electrocuted.
"Don't do that again." I gave him a queer, piercing look. An urge to slap him intensified, but instead I locked my hands and we walked to the restaurant.
He didn't say anything; he just returned my look with a facial expression that was more of a sneer than a smile and kept walking.
Two girls sat on the table, and Bravyn led me there. Like the gentleman he was, he pulled me into a chair and asked me to sit down. What kind of game is he trying to play? Imagine bringing me lunch at an already-occupied table.
"Who gave out my table?" He asked, staring at the women, who were in no hurry to leave. I cursed myself inwardly for thinking we were supposed to sit there all together.
"We didn't find a reservation card here; it was free!" One of the ladies screamed, like she was mad at him.
"Keep your rotten mouth shut, you w***e; you don't shout at me when I have a visitor; get out of here, both of you, or should I order someone to throw you outside?" He roared back.
I couldn't imagine the words slipping out of his mouth or what had happened to that soft voice he had used when they were together. "He is quite deceptive. I knew something was wrong with him the first time I saw him. He does not have respect for women!" I thought, averting my gaze to a better scene of a beautiful lawn filled with flowers of all colors.
Darling, Shelby, it's only the two of us now. I'm sorry I lost my cool, but believe me, I'm a very good man!" Bravyn said, and I was like, There goes deception again. Who the hell does he think I am, a two-year-old? These women were seated there waiting for him. I saw how they almost fought for places when he visited my hotel last week.
I turned around and gazed at him; he was sitting across from me. I felt this overwhelming courage wash over me, and I had to face him without fear. The way he shouted meant he could lose his temper and shout at me.And this would make me cry,I don't expect any other man to ever shout at me, I must be strong enough to resist his emotional abuse.
"I know you are starving; please let's have breakfast and lunch together, and don't put that serious face on me; I am very excited to be with you here now!" Bravyn stated," I hope you will like my special order!" . He flagged down a waitress.
"I need to use the ablution!" I told him that I had been traveling for some hours and needed to retouch my makeup and at least empty my bowels before I concentrated on dining with the indomitable Boss.
"Sure, I understand!" Bravyn said this and pointed at the VIP ladies' toilets. I walked slowly, and I could hear footfalls behind me. I fought the urge to turn around and see who it was. I clutched my bag tightly and entered the bathroom. One of the ladies who was seated at Bravyn's table entered. I was standing in front of the mirror. I had removed the band from my hair, and I was running my comb on it.
"Braven likes short hair," She said, checking herself in the mirror.
"That's better because I'm not here to be liked!" I replied, tightening my hair with the band and making sure my horsetail ran well down my shoulders.
In the mirror, the lady's eyes appeared startled. "What's wrong? Why? don't you want a man like him?"
"It's none of your business, but if you should know, I wish I had a way to disappear!" I told her.
"Hahaha, the first woman who doesn't want him, my friend, enjoy it while it lasts; lots of money involved; ask for anything and it's yours; I wish he liked me; a very generous guy!" She said, and I finished up and entered the toilet, and the lady left.
I stood there, staring at the mirror, thinking about the mixed emotions the Bravyn guy had managed to evoke in me. Then I walked majestically, aware of a few stares from people who wondered who the new girl was.
I sat there, and he could not remove his eyes from me. I tried to lock his gaze, but I was not as strong as I intended.
"I dislike this guy immensely, which is not helping, but the fact remains that he fascinates me, like a bird by a snake. Stealing those few glances at him, seeing him there with his handsome looks sprawled on his chair, all feral and primitive at the same time, barely veneered by the politeness that came with civilization," I thought.
He was treating me like mesmerized prey, and with offhand gallantry that was merely visible,he was already sure of his traps. But he will be surprised because his trap isn't snaring anybody named Shelby any time soon.
Why had he wanted to meet me in the first place? Why did he exert an effort to meet with me only to stand by and look on?me from across the table with those inscrutable black eyes? I want him to start talking so that I can tell him point-blank that it is not possible for me and him to be together. I may not be sure if he wants a long-term relationship, but staring at him, I know he likes me. I would swear he loves me too.
