Olive
I open my eyes and try to adjust to the light. I'm in a room with white paintings on the walls and ceiling.
"Took you long enough." I turn to look at where the sound came from, Olivia, she's seated on a chair beside the bed looking at me with a smile.
"Where am I?" I ask her.
"At the hospital." I can tell from the environment I'm in.
"How long have I been in here?" I ask her as I try to sit up and she helps me.
"Three months."
"What?" How on earth have I been out for that long? "I f*cking hate hospitals." I groan feeling bored, I can't believe I've been in a hospital for three months.
"So do I but I'm not using the 'F word." She says and I roll my eyes.
This is the same person that cusses in every sentence that gets out of her mouth.
I turn to look at the bedside stool and there's a bouquet of flowers.
"Who brought these flowers?" I pull them close to my nose and smell them.
"Bill, he brings fresh flowers every day." I can't help but smile at that.
The events of what happened come flowing into my head. Bill had called me telling me Yassin had already talked to the police and sent in all the evidence needed and that he was going to see his mom.
I had a bad feeling about it all, when we dropped Olivia at Yassin's place, I didn't go back home with Oliver instead I went to Bill's place, I wanted us to go after Yassin and Olivia. At first, he didn't want to, saying we would be intruding on their private moment, but since this would probably be the last time I see Yassin alive or free I insisted.
When we got there, what we found was scary, Yassin's mom was lying on the floor in a pool of blood, I watched as Aisha shot Hassan, shot Yassin in the leg, and aimed the gun at Olivia. She looked helpless and as much as Bill kept holding me back I wouldn't let her die.
She is my sister for crying out loud.
Aisha hadn't seen us come in so she didn't see when we struck, but she pulled the trigger fast and as an act of impulse I wanted to push Olivia away from the coming bullet but in that movement, it hit me instead, the last thing I saw was Bill shooting Aisha as everything blacked out.
I knew I was dying.
Then, I woke up in a hospital bed glad that I'm alive, then I started feeling dizzy, I couldn't breathe properly, I was having a fuzzy feeling, feeling unconscious then the jerking started, the seizures.
I watched as a nurse injected me with a sedative which calmed me down, but I knew it wouldn't stop it, this is epilepsy, it was still going to come back, so I slept but it wasn't for long band I was awake.
My eyes landed on him, He was cute, no handsome, scratch that, hot as hell.
He called my name but made the mistake of adding that surname to it. I don't know who told them that was my name, it never was, I tried to tell him that wasn't my name but the feeling was back, and in no time the seizures were back.
I couldn't feel myself, I could hear voices, he was ordering the nurse but I couldn't grasp any of it because my whole body was shaking uncontrollably, after a while it stopped. I was breathing normally.
The nurse wiped off the foam in my mouth then I heard him call me, he had a beautiful voice. Now that I was conscious I could bring out his features. He was tall had fair skin and a nice jawline, the first thing I did was compliment his looks. I mean it's not all the time you come across a handsome doctor.
He kept asking how I was feeling but my eyes were just focused on those lips, wet and pink I wanted to see how they would form into a smile so I asked him to smile and when he did I think I lost it for a moment, I think it's a crime to look this good.
He asked the first relative I wanted to see and the only person I could think of was Olivia. So I woke up and she was seated beside my bed smiling. But I would be lying if I said that smile reached her eyes.
"What about Yassin?" I ask her and she looks away. I need to know what happened the three months I've been in a coma.
"I don't know." She answers plainly I can tell she's trying to avoid that topic.
"What do you mean you don't know?"
"He was arrested are you happy now?" I can see she's trying so hard not to cry. Him being arrested was something we both expected but it doesn't mean the feeling doesn't hurt. He is a good guy.
"How about the sentence?" I'm just hoping he wasn't sentenced to life. It would break her and me too.
"He was sentenced to fifteen years." I don't know how that happened given the case he had but I'm glad it's that short. She's almost crying I need to lighten the mood.
"But that's better, look at it this way, that's eight years because in jail they count both day and night," I tell her.
She's broken, I can see.
"I'll just call a nurse, I need to go." She's running away from it.
I can't blame her though, I would do the same.
"Where are you going?"
"I have an appointment with Dr. Mali my psychologist, I can't miss it, I'll be back in two hours' time."
I'm glad she's finally decided to see those creeps, I have watched her have nightmares and it wasn't a pleasant scene.
"Okay." She stands to leave and just then I watch as she runs to the bathroom and I can hear her vomiting.
I may be wrong but it's early in the morning yet she's vomiting unless she ate bad food, so my thoughts are right.
"I'm not pregnant." She says as she comes back wiping her mouth, she's funny I haven't even asked if she is.
"How sure are you?"
"Coz I haven't had s*x in a while." She tells me with a serious look.
"When was the last time you had your periods?" I'm really enjoying this interrogating stuff.
"I'm on birth control, I rarely have my periods."
It doesn't matter.
"Did you use protection the last time you had s*x?" I'm not trying to judge her but my sister has slept with a good amount of men most of them strangers and when she's stressed it gets worse so forgive me if I suspect she had unprotected s*x.
"No."
She can't be serious.
"Why?"
"Because Yassin didn't have condoms and I was on birth control." I'm already screaming when she tells me that.
"Oh my God, you guys did it?" I'm excited, I thought they would never get to that point, well because Yassin would end up in jail. A nurse runs in looking worried.
"Nurse could you give her more of those sedatives, she's being a pain in the ass." I laugh as the nurse comes to check, that just came from the same person who told me not to use the 'f' word.
"I'll call the doctor." The nurse says as she walks out.
"I think you should take a pregnancy test."
"Just shut up." She's literally blushing.
The doctor walks in and it's the same doctor that was taking care of me when I woke up. He places a stethoscope to check my heartbeat and in that move, our eyes meet. My heart skips a beat and I'm smiling, his eyes look tired but still, he's handsome.
"She's okay, she'll just need lots of rest and more checkups before we discharge her." He says once he's done checking me. His voice, how is it even possible to look this good and have a beautiful voice too.
He's walking away and I just want him to stay longer.
"Excuse me, handsome doctor?" I call him before he walks out and Olivia runs her hand through her face, she's embarrassed.
"Yea?"
And I just realized I have no reason for calling him back.
"Can you do a pregnancy test on my sister? I think she's pregnant but she thinks otherwise."
"Come with me, Miss Olivia." He tells her as he walks out and Olivia follows suit giving me the middle finger. I let out a chuckle.
I decide to check the flowers again, there's a card attached to them, I open it.
I'll keep bringing a new bouquet every day till the day you'll wake up.....I hope it will be soon before I become broke...I miss you, Bill.
I wipe the tear that falls from my eye and smile.
Bill is amazing, he always has been. The first day we met was when I was dating Yassin, he told me he wanted me to meet his friends, at that time I didn't know Yassin was a terrorist, Bill was always the smooth cool one, Sam the bad boy and Timothy well he can be both, the guys have been my friends for life, when I found out their secret it wasn't easy to take it all in but they were the only friends I had and trusted, they were my bandmates, I spend most of my time with them. Then when I left the band and asked Yassin to stay away, Bill was the only one who'd check up on me and when he was being too much, I switched my phone number and that was it.
At the time I had just lost my mom and I just wanted to be alone, I was bitter with life, Until some time back when Yassin found me, and well Yassin being Yassin I got my life back on track.
I will miss Yassin, he was more than a friend, more than a brother and I know we had a thing in the past but that was then and we got over it, he more of treats me like a younger sister now. And now that he is in jail I don't know how my life will be.
I wipe the tears as I try to sit comfortably, my body still aches but it's not that much, I don't know what has happened for the past three months but I guess I will soon find out.
The door is slightly opened and a hand moves in with yet another bouquet of flowers, Bill.
"Bill come in," I tell him as I smile and he walks in.
He looks good in a blue pair of jeans a navy blue T-shirt and a leather jacket on top. He always looks good. He is taking large steps towards me and pulls me into a hug.
"You're awake." He whispers as his hand moves over my short hair.
"Yea." He's hugging me tightly.
"Bill? " I tap him on the back.
"Yea?"
"I can't breath."
"Oh sorry." He says as he pulls away with a smile as he tries to look away.
Was he crying?
He can't be serious.
"Hey, I'm here," I tell him as I hold him by the chin.
"I thought I lost you."
"Well I'm here now, so you didn't." He nods his head smiling and hugs me again.
"Here." He hands me the flowers.
"Thank you, I hope you aren't broke yet."
He laughs when I tell him that.
"Almost." We both chuckle.
"How are you feeling?"
"Good, how are you?"
"Just surviving but I'm better now that you're finally awake."
See he's the smooth and cool one.
"I heard Yassin was sentenced."
"Yea, fifteen years, we tried our best to defend him, Your father kind of talked to the judge and the sentence was reduced, we are glad." I can see it's not easy for him either.
"The others?"
"Tim flew out of the country, it's just me and Sam."
I can't believe that's the end for the band. These guys were amazing, but I guess life happened and our lives have changed.
"Sir I'm sorry but she only wanted to see Olivia." The doctor walks in and a furious Benjamin Ndumi is behind him.
My dad.
"Then what is this guy doing here?" He asks looking at Bill who quickly stands up.
"He's her boyfriend." The doctor says and my eyes go wide.
Boyfriend? Is that what Bill told them?
"Olivia wanted them to let me in." He explains to me and I nod.
"Such nonsense, a young man I will need some time alone with my daughter," Benjamin orders Bill who walks away head low after kissing me on the forehead.
"Miss Olive, is it okay if I left you two alone?" The doctor asks and I nod.
