Jake
The sound of tiny little branches being snapped in half was getting closer. I could tell by the speed this person was using that they weren't entirely human. That meant they were either a werewolf or vampire. I had to rush to get Stella out of here. I'm just glad that she listened to me. I wondered for a moment if Davina wanted me to fake being mates with her so that I wouldn't meet Stella because Stella was the answer to maybe breaking this spell. That was just speculation, but it made a lot of sense. Why else would Davina not want me to be with my mate?
Speaking of the devil. Davina came out of nowhere, using her speed to crush me against a small tree. She stuck her nose to the side of my neck. "What do we have here? Have we been around someone we aren't supposed to be around? Maybe your mate, for instance."
I was hoping that her smell was not as strong as mine. My biggest problem was not knowing enough about my enemy. If I had any chance to get out of this, I would have to do some research on vampires. "She and her father have come seeking an alliance from our Alpha. My father had me sit in on the meeting with them today."
Davina's sharp teeth showed as a sly smile reached across her lips. "Do I look like an i***t to you? If that were the case, then her scent wouldn't be all over these delicious lips of yours. You’re lucky that this spell only goes so far. Once I have complete control over you, I will be able to see and hear every thought you have ever had by one sweet little kiss to these lips." She spread her index finger along my bottom lip ever so slightly.
"So, you disappear for days just to come back here and accuse me of something that didn't take place? It is because of you that I want nothing to do with my real mate. You are the one I want." As I spoke the words, I knew they held no truth. The spell was weaker now, which gave me a little room to spin my own words in a sentence without her controlling them.
Her hand guided along my bare chest and over the pack's symbol that was tattooed right below my neckline. "I disappeared because I had matters that needed my attention. Nothing that concerns you, of course. I'm back now and am all yours for the next two days. Since your mate will be lurking around your packhouse, I will need to make sure she knows who you belong to. Having her out of the picture will make sure my plans go without failure. We wouldn't want her complicating matters, now would we? I think we both know what would happen to her if she got in the way."
Jet was fuming, making his anger radiate through my body. Davina stepped back as she felt the heat coming off my body. He was getting ready to shift. No, not now! Control yourself, Jet. If you shift, you will give her all she will need to want to go after Stella. We have to protect her. That seemed to do the trick—Jet sunk into the back of my mind, trying his best not to focus on us.
"Your wolf wants to come out to play?"
"Yes, but I have handled him."
"Meaning that you spoke to him. That is so fascinating to me. You have something inside you that you can always communicate to. You will never be alone as long as you have him. That must be something."
Why she wanted to know things like this beats the hell out of me. "I'm not sure I would use the word fascinating to describe it. Jet can be a pain in my ass sometimes."
Davina turned her head to the side with an amused look on her face. “His name is Jet? What an odd name for a wolf. Well, let’s keep Jet under control. I wouldn’t find enjoyment in punishing you for his out-of-control behavior.”
She grabbed my hand and started leading me back to our packhouse. “Why do you want to be around for anyway? With all these wolves here, they are bound to figure out what you are.”
“That is why I have covered my scent and had to put in these uncomfortable as hell contacts. I am going through a lot just to make sure that my plan works.”
For the rest of the walk, I stayed silent. I was trying to think of how to get myself out of this. If Stella saw us together again, she would be more confused than before, especially after that kiss we shared. I couldn’t take a chance of losing her because of this vampire. Once we walked through the pack doors, all eyes were on us. My mother and father were just stepping out of his office, laughing together, which was nice to see. Anyone that looked at them could tell that they were madly in love with each other. I only hoped I would get the same opportunity with my mate too.
They began to approach us, and I began to feel queasy. I hoped they would figure out what she was so I could have control back, but at the same time, I was scared that one of them would get hurt. None of us knew anything about this vampire and how strong she might be.
“Ah, it is nice to see you again, young lady,” my father stated while holding close to my mother’s side.
Davina smiled and rested her head on my shoulder. “It is a pleasure as always, Alpha Blake.”
“Is my son treating you well?”
“Oh, you have no idea. The moon goddess really knew what she was doing when she paired us together.”
My jaw clenched at the simple mention of her being my mate. When she spoke to me about it, it didn’t seem to affect me as much, but when Davina said it out loud like this, it made me angry. “Dad, mom, if you will excuse us, I was just giving Davina here a tour of the packhouse.”
They looked at each other and chuckled. “Sure, son, but remember you have training later today. Meet me in the sparring arena, and do not be late.”
“Dad, I’m never late.” I hurriedly rushed Davina and myself out of there and up toward my bedroom.
When we reached the top stairs, Stella was there moving things into the room across from mine. Davina snarled at her as Stella did the same in return. I decided it best not for me to say anything, to ignore her completely. If Davina knew that Stella and I had been communicating, then she would no doubt go after her. I couldn’t risk that happening. Stella may be upset with me for this, but I had hope that she would forgive me once I could explain myself.
Davina wrapped her arms around my neck and pushed me against the wall. Her lips were over mine before I could blink. I could feel the working of the spell start up again by the feel of Davina’s lips on mine. For some reason, it felt as if the spell was stronger than it had been previously. I lost all control of my body. The only thing I could do was watch what was happening behind my lost eyes.
I took Davina and flipped her around, picking her up and pushing her against the wall as I moved my erection between her legs. Davina was moaning with each kiss of my lips against her ice-cold skin. It was Stella’s whimpers from behind me that made me stop what I was doing. I turned around to see tears filling her face.
“I hope that you enjoyed the show, lost little puppy. Jake is my mate. That wouldn’t change no matter how long you stare at us. If you want to watch something, I could think of something that would really get you going,” Davina pestered her.
Stella’s eyes skimmed past Davina’s and laded straight onto mine. “You can have him. If he was my true mate, then he wouldn’t go around sleeping with some w***e right in front of my eyes anyway. The moon goddess must have gotten confused with this one.” She turned around and slammed the door to her room right in front of my face.
Jet was howling from inside me. He knew that Stella’s words were basically a rejection without ever actually saying the words. When we were alone with her again, I knew that what she would do. Damnit! I had to think of a plan, and I had to think of one quick. There had to be a way to break this spell, and if I had any hope of saving my relationship with Stella, then I would have to find out how.
“Now that she is gone, we can have some real fun. How about you finish what you started out there,” Davina said as we entered my room. I sat down on the bed as she hopped into my lap, straddling me.
“You aren’t interested in having s*x with me. We both know that you are here for something other than that. So, how about you get on with it and leave me the hell alone.”
“When you talk to me like that, Jake, it gets me all worked up. So brave, yet so stupid. You have no idea who and what you are up against. Try all you want to fight it, but this spell is stronger than you are. This spell was made to withstand even the strongest of werewolves. Go ahead and wear yourself out because it will only make my job that much easier.” She brushed her hands through my hair. “I wish that in a different life we could have met because baby, I would have rocked your world. Too bad that you are the enemy.” She pulled herself off me and began walking toward the door. “Stay like a good little dog. I will be back in a while. There are some things I need to take care of first.” Just like that, she was gone.
I had only one thing on my mind, and that was going across the hall and checking on Stella. There was nothing I could say to change her mind about me now, all because of Davina. Why did this have to happen to me?
I began to lay down on my bed when the door opened and in slipped Stella. “Stella, what are you doing in here? You can’t be here. If she comes back…”
Stella moved over to me until she was standing at the foot of my bed. “We need to talk.” This was it; she was going to reject me. I couldn’t help the large lump forming in my throat. “I heard everything. I heard what she said. What damn spell is she talking about, Jake?”
