Chapter 3

2085 Words
“Hi honey.” Dad plops down beside me joining me on the couch watching the game. “Hey dad.” I smile at him, my gaze shifting back at the TV half concentrating. Why because my mind keep going back to Austin and our conversation. What if he laughs in my face saying he doesn't need my help? What if I made a mistake in volunteering to tutor him? What if my crush for him turns into something more? Can I handle it? What if I can't and everything gets ruined? Will I survive it? Well looking at the bright side and he possibly falls in love with me. Will it last? What if he finds out about the real reason behind my list? On a scale of 1 -1 00, how bad will he react? In both ways, I still end up on the losing end. I sigh. I really didn't think this one through. Maybe I should go to his house tomorrow and apologize for rising his hopes high and what next? Lose my chances to be with my crush even if I just bribed him, no, wrong choice of words, very wrong choice of words; coerce him in hopes to get his grades back up for his time with me. “How was school today?” Dad asks, eyes trained on the TV but I know he took a side glance before asking. I smile. “Fine, I guess.” “Okay, what's wrong? Your mom made me come check up on you because she's worried. She said you only came down for dinner and have been locked in your room for hours since you got home. Should we be worried, you know we can't help you if we don't know what’s troubling you.” He looks at me concerned. I chuckle. “I’m fine dad, really.” I snuggle close to him. His arms wrap around me making me sigh in delight. “You need to tell mom to stop worrying much about me.” “I think you need to tell her that yourself.” I turn around to catch her sneaking a peep at us from the kitchen as she prepares the salad but quickly look at the bowl of salad on the island she's making with full concentration when she notices I caught her. “Hey mom?” I call smiling. “Mm honey.” She replies feigning innocence fixing a hand on her waist looking at me. This sly …I laugh. “Can you stop worrying for just a second? I’m fine here, okay.” “Okay honey.” She smiles back at me and I hear my dad chuckle which I join soon all of us laugh heartily. “Okay, dinner is ready.” Mom says when she stops laughing but a smile could still be seen playing on her lips, same as I and dad. Sitting opposite mom and dad at the head, I watch as mom dish food on our plates while dad looks at her in awe. She swats dads hand away with a playful scowl on her face when he tried to grab her, I smile hearing her mutter behave which he rolls his eyes at before throwing a wink at me. Looking down at my plate, the delicious smell hit my nostrils so hard that before I could react and compliment her, dad already beat me to it making her blush. I don't want to brag but my mom is the best chef ever, I think that's why the biggest stars and celebrities call her to carter for their events. Dad being the CFO of a billion-dollar company had me high on the rich girls' pedestal in school but no one knows, well just my best friend Bailey. So yeah, I have everything money can buy except on thing and that hurt my parents so much no matter their persuasions, I refuse to do it. Soon the room is filled with clinking and clanking of utensils as we ate, then mom went on about her latest client and dad told us about his day. This have become a ritual, a dinner ritual for the Whyte family where we talk about our day during dinner. Dad sips on his glass of red wine watching mom talk animatedly and I smile. *** “Ugh.” Falling flat on my bed, I groan deeply feeling fatigue and full. Remind me never to eat more than I can take in. I throw my right hand to my forehead and my left on my tummy. I’m so going to have serious cramps by morning. I groan again. “Psst.” I heard. “Psst.” Again and I stood up resting on my palms, my eyes searching for the sound. “Psst.” This time louder. “Mary-Vienne, over here.” My head snap to the window. There Austin is hanging off on his windowsill with a cocky smirk on his face. What the…? I quickly stood up bolting to close my door and rushing to the window. “What is wrong with you Austin? You could get me in trouble.” I whisper yell at him and he just laugh pissing me off more. Mom or dad could just walk right in and what will I say? What will he say? “Hey, I was waiting to see my favorite Snoop. I had to stand here naked for a full thirty minutes and you never showed up.” My mouth drops open and my eyes wide. Did he just say what I think he said? “Oh my god, you should see the look on your face.” He laughs at me throwing his head back; I frown getting annoyed with his games. “What do you want Austin?” I say bored, pissed and slightly mad at myself for thinking he actually did wait for me, well not the naked part. “I missed you or didn't you miss me?” He whines pouting. “Go to sleep Mahone. It’s past your bedtime.” Getting fed up with his games, I say irritated. “But I need my favorite tutor to tuck me in and besides I’m not sleepy yet.” His face contorts into that of an innocent sad puppy. “Is this how you disturb all your girlfriends or am I just at the receiving end?” I ask, a frown present on my face. “Well last I check I don't have a girlfriend.” He says as if thinking. “Oh wait! I do have a girlfriend.” I pique interest wanting to know the infamous girl that Austin is dating. “Her name is Mary-Vienne and she's my tutor.” His annoyingly handsome face looks at me with a smirk and I know I’m looking red, probably out of anger or embarrassment or maybe both. Throwing my hands up in the air I groan walking away from my window hearing his laughter fill the night air. Huffing, I pull my blanket over me facing my back to the window. “No! please come back. I’m sorry.” He says in between laughs pissing me off more. “Pssst. Psst. Snoopy? Mary-Vienne? Don’t I at least get a goodnight kiss? Psst. Psst. Psst.” I turn facing my pillow letting a loud groan into it. This is going to be a long night for me hearing his chuckles. Chapter 5 I see an open spot driving to it, carefully parking my lexus rx350 2019 model I got for my last year birthday gifted to me by mom and dad. Once parked, I let my head fall to the steering wheel gripping it tightly feeling all groggy and s**t. Austin's whisperings and callings kept me up most part of the night even if I can't remember what he said but I definitely did remember a faint goodnight as sleep lured me in once again. A knock on my window got me groaning at the sight of my Bestie all happy. Is there ever a day she's not smiling? She use her index to signify I let down my window, I pressed a button doing so. Resting her hands while propping her chin on one smiling. “So are you going to sit here in your car all day or are you coming to class?” She looks inside searching. “Hey! You brought lunch! Dibs on first bite.” I eyed her opening my door, I step out locking my car. “You don't get to call dibs on my food Bailey.” Her face twist into a frown. “Why not?” Is that a trick question or what? “Why not? Hmm let me see because it's my food and I’m not sharing it with you.” Straight up fact. Who call dibs on someone's lunch? Obviously, BAILEY MORGAN aka the Bestie. “Ha! You so funny and such a cutie.” This time she succeeded in squeezing my cheeks. What's with this girl and my cheeks? “I'll hurt you.” I glare at her. “No you won’t.” She smiles cheekily and we kept walking to our lockers. “What's with the escape character from the walking dead series? Couldn't get enough beauty sleep last night?” She opens her locker right besides mine. I get closer to her not wanting the loitered hallway filled with students to hear me. “Austin wouldn't let me sleep. He kept me up all night.” I whisper in an aggravated tone. “Omg! Omg! You and Austin …” Her two index joins together which I didn't get at first looking at her face in confusion till it finally hit me. A heavy blush which I’m sure extended to my nether parts that can't be seen heat me up. “No! No! No! That's not it! And will never be it.” I whisper yell, frantically shaking my head. She laughs out closing her locker. “But you want it to be it.” Her brows raise in amusement. “Ugh, what is wrong with you?” She laughs again, looks behind me then smiles. “Well it looks like we’re about to find out.” I turn, Austin walking towards us with a mischievous grin plastered on his face. “Oh no!” I quickly turn back only to see Bailey's eyes darting between the both of us smiling stupid. “Stop smiling.” I gritted out. “Help me.” I plea. “How? Squeeze you inside your locker or make you disappear which I tell you I’m no witch. I may look like one but I’m not one.” What? My head tilt looking at her in a crazy way. “Besides he has seen you already, no need trying to do what you want to do; also It's been so long I saw a good drama in this school, quite boring don't you think?” Her lips quirks up amusedly. “I hate you.” Seeing him drawing closer to us. “You know, you should try and mean that someday.” She says jokingly with a grin now resting on her locker. About to throw a smart comeback, she cut me off. “Oh hey Austin!” What?! “Hey Bailey.” He slides tossing his hand on her shoulders while I look anywhere else but two increasingly annoying fellows that have this penetrating gaze at me with amused grins on their faces. “Mary-Vienne.” My name falls smoothly from his lips and I tried not to look flustered or worst purr. His smirk grows wider as I glare at him. “What do you want Austin?” I bark out. “Feisty. I like that.” He grin trailing his eyes down my body, consciously I drag my skirt down praying my color don't feel heated like my insides are. “You seem to ask that question frequently, maybe I'll just have to try my luck and tell you what I want. I just hope you give it to me or I'll just have to steal it.” Looking at him, you'll thinking he's joking with that cocky grin on his face but no, it's his eyes, they say the eyes are the windows to the soul, his eyes only tell if he's serious or not and the way he stares down at me heatedly, I know he means it.
