Chapter 6

I stare at the 4 strangers who suddenly barged in, and it takes a couple of minutes but it becomes clear to me they aren’t humans. I gaze at the commotion below in a daze, watching as Katrina barked out orders like a general. “Gavin heal him, erase his memories of this night, and then teleport him to his home. Troy, I’m going to put up protection spells around the house, and I’ll need your help when those vampires get here. Candy, you and Kimmy take my cousin up to her room. I think she’s in shock.” She’s damn right am in shock! I hear nothing but a ringing sound in my ears and don’t know what to make of it, my body feels numb all over which means I can’t move so I stand where I am like a statue. I can only stare when the dark-skinned dude called Gavin, rests his hands on the spot I’d burned on Josh’s stomach. Like Katrina had done to my back, he heals Josh by muttering words under his breath while his hand emitted a soft, white glow. It takes a few seconds before anything happens, but Josh’s chest rose when a gasp leaving his lips, pretty much alarming me of the fact that he might not have been breathing before. Within a blink of an eye, the two of them disappeared out of the room and I just stare at the empty spot in continued shock. The one named Candy steps into my line of vision and I stare at her rainbow coloured hair in bewilderment, only to glance down when movement by her side catches my attention and I see a pudgy, green creature hover in the air with translucent green wings fluttering at a rapid pace behind… it? Whatever the creature is, it looks unflattering with pointy elf-like ears, yellow eyes the colour of the sun, a large pug-nose and black lips covering what appears to be a sharp, pointy set of canines. Which are frighteningly being flashed at me in what I hope is a smile, not an invitation to become dinner. Candy surprises me when she takes my hand in hers and pulls me after her with a strong grip upstairs. I didn’t even react when Gavin suddenly appeared back into my room 20mins later, nor did I flinch at every grunting and screeching noise that came from downstairs and lasted for over 2hours. When Katrina and the one named Troy finally came upstairs, I looked up and tears slowly rolled down my face. “I almost k-ki-killed-” “Hush, everything is fine now, I made sure of that.” She whispers and immediately hurries closer, wrapping her arms around me as I break out in sobs. There’s an awful smell permeating from her clothes and body, which is stained by dark globs of liquid. I didn’t want to be a mean when she’s trying to comfort me, but my nose couldn’t take the suffocating smell anymore and I hurriedly pulled away before I gagged. “I’m sorry,” I choke out, holding a grimace. “The smell is just-” Comprehending the fact that she’s drenched in some awful substance, she waves her hand over her body and immediately everything is gone. The stench, and the dark liquid staining her clothes. “Uhmm, why don’t you get some rest while the guys and I clean up before your parents get here.” At the reminder of the others, I gaze their way in caution and don’t know what to make of the four of them. Once again my mind is racing with so many questions, but a wave of tiredness hits me and before I could blink, I’m falling back on my bed and losing consciousness. When I woke up the next morning, I was surprised to see Katrina standing at the foot of my bed with a tray of food while gazing at me with a small smile on her face. She’s wearing a yellow, cold-shoulder ruffle lace dress with black strappy heels and her hair is in a loose bun. I sit up slowly, remembering the events of last light and clench my hands into fists. Pushing away from the memory of an unconscious, bleeding Josh out of my mind, I collect the outstretched tray and forced a smile. It’s filled with a plate of toast, bacon, and scrambled eggs. One of my favourites. “I just thought you’d like some breakfast in bed.” “Thanks.” Neither one of us says anything for a while as I slowly eat, but unable to withstand the silence anymore I decided to speak up. “Is he alright?” “He is, Gavin made sure of it. He won’t remember last night and he won’t come looking for you either.” Looking up, I offer a smile that doesn’t quite reach my eyes and say once again. “Thanks.” The corner of her lips lift in response and she changes the subject. “Why don’t you eat up, its 9:00 am and we have to leave for the airport in 3hours.” I nod and watch her leave the room before letting out a long sigh. Well, this confirms it then, everything is freaking real. Glancing out the window to stare at the morning light I feel like bawling my eyes out because despite everything a part of me wished this was all a fluke. I sniffed, not being able to restrain my tears as they slowly roll down my face. I raise my hand to wipe them off and finish my food, getting into the shower for a quick wash. I walk over to my closet 20mins later with just a towel wrapped around my body and was quite surprised to see half of my closet is empty and probably packed. Katrina and mum must have done this while I was sleeping. I pick out a white Lattice black vest top with an Acid wash distressed skinny jeans and black Louboutin boots, shaking my head I wonder just how much clothes my mum thinks I need. Walking back into my room I pulled my hair into a tight ponytail and grabbed my phone, wallet, and other inconsequential things. Slipping them into my Gucci shoulder bag. Downstairs, I see my suitcases and Katrina’s duffel bag being carried by her and my brother and smile when I hear him grumble about the amount of clothes girls frustratingly need. “Oh, my baby!” My mother wails as soon as she spotted me coming down the stairs, grabbing my shoulders she pulls me into a tight hug. Used to her strength, I squeezed back and rest my chin on top of her head. I stood a head taller over her 5’5ft height which I thankfully didn’t inherit. A lot of people think because my mother is on the short side they can walk all over her, but just one snarky remark from the fierce woman and they immediately realize otherwise. When she pulls back, I see tears in her eyes but a huge smile on her lips. Sniffing, she wipes her tears and says. “I’m so happy this is happening.” “You and me both mum,” I mumble and she nodded, not detecting the sadness in my voice. “Good, now you know you have to keep up your grades in other for an Ivy League school to even care about you?” She questions in worry and I nodded. “Then I’m sure you also know you need to focus on school.” “Considering the amount of money I paid for tuition, you better.” My father warns when he steps into the house and I turn to him with a small smile. Raising a hand in the air, I promise with a roll of my eyes. “I swear to focus in school and keep my grades up.” “That’s all I want to hear.” My mother beams with a satisfied nod. “Tatiana, are you sure you want to do this, because if it’s not what you want we can pull you out right now?” My father reassures, ignoring my mother’s look of outrage as he draws closer. He comes to stand in front of me with a worried frown and behind him I see Katrina and Brian walk in. Katrina raises a questioning brow as everyone waits for my answer, and I release a sigh. I would like to say I considered the pro’s and con’s when I replied but that will be lying, just the thought of something happening to them made my decision come out all the more firm. “No dad, I want to go.” “See, she wants to go.” My mother beamed in triumph, throwing my father a smug look.
