Chapter 4: Visiting Ken At Work

1273 Words
Joanna sat down on the sofa in Ken's office and let him get back to his work. Ken didn't appreciate her eyes on him, though. He got impatient and asked, "Are you leaving?" Joanna rested her chin on her hands and said, "I want to wait for you so that we can go home together." Ken gave her a cold look and said, "No, you go on ahead of me." "Well, okay," Joanna whispered. Before she left, she glanced at Ken and said, "Come home early. I don't want you to don't get too tired." Ken turned back to his work without saying anything, and Joanna left his office. Once she was on the street, she took a deep breath, and said, "Ken Green, in appreciation of your kindness towards me in my previous life, I want to protect you for the rest of my life. Is it too much to ask for a little kindness in return? I don't think so, but you don't even like me…" Joanna was so distracted that she ran a red light on the way home, and she was stopped by a cop car. She nervously pulled over to the side of the road, and when the police officer arrived at her window, she was surprised that it was Brian. He looked at her, smirked, and said, "Beauty, if you want to die so much, why not spend a night with me first?" Joanna was amazed by Brian's handsome face. He was more handsome than any of the other men she knew. Of course, she would have been even more amazed if he didn't have such a cynical smile on his face. "Sorry," she said. She got out of the car so that she could walk to the other side of the street, on the sidewalk. Brian laughed and said, "Hey, it's not safe to walk alone at night. If you don't want to drive yourself home, I could take you. I, Master Brian, will keep you safe." Joanna ignored him and continued walking. Because of the way that he'd struck a conversation with her, she assumed that he was not a good person. What a waste of a beautiful face! – she thought. Brian continued walking behind her. After a while, he asked her, "Miss, would you consider spending tonight with me." Joanna resisted the urge to turn around or reply. Ignore him – she thought – and he will go away. A car drove by and blared its horn at them, nearly blowing out Joanna's eardrums, and she gave the driver the middle finger. Brian chuckled when he saw that, and he said, "You're a feisty one, aren't you? I like that!" Joanna grunted but said nothing, and eventually, Brian turned and returned to his squad car. It was ten o'clock when Joanna arrived, and Ken hadn't come home yet, which meant that he probably wouldn't come back at all this night. After taking a shower, Joanna sat on the balcony and looked at the stars in the sky. She wanted to have a drink, so she did. And then she had another. And another. And another – until she was so drunk that it seemed like a good idea to send Ken the photos of Jane and her young lover. When Joanna woke up the next morning, she worried that Ken would be in a bad mood, and she regretted what she'd done, so she made lunch and hurried over to the Green building to apologize. She had been there many times, so the employees all knew that she was the president's wife, and no one should have stopped her. As soon as she arrived at the president's office, though, she was seized by Ken's assistant, Pete White. "Mrs. Green," he said, "the president is in a meeting. Would you like to wait outside of his office for him?" Joanna frowned suspiciously. If he was in a meeting, then she should be able to wait in his office. Why should I wait outside? – she wondered. She smiled and said, "Okay, I'll wait for him in his office." Joanna was about to go inside when Pete stepped in front of her. Joanna frowned and tried to push Pete away, but he refused to let her pass. "Get out of my way," Joanna hissed – but Pete still didn't move. Joanna gave Pete a dirty look and pushed him again, harder than before, and he fell on his ass. Thus, she was able to get past him and open the door to Ken's office. And much to her surprise, the office was empty. "What the heck?" she mumbled. Everything looked to be in order, but she knew that there was something wrong. Joanna looked around the office and saw a bright red colored item on the edge of Ken's desk. She slowly approached it, and what she'd seen, she discovered, was a purse. Joanna turned her eyes to the lounge with the door closed. She took a deep breath, and as she walked over to it, her heart began to beat rapidly. Joanna opened the door with a trembling hand, and on the other side of the door, she saw Ken and Jane. They were on the bed, f*****g. Joanna stood there, unnoticed, for two full minutes. Then she closed the door indifferently and walked out of the president's office. From there, she went into the bathroom, found an empty stall, and emptied the contents of her stomach into the toilet. It wasn't until Joanna was done vomiting that she realized that she was being watched. "Miss, are you okay?" the woman asked. Joanna shook her head, got up off the floor, went to the sink, and quickly washed up. Then she took a few deep breaths to help herself calm down. "Miss, do you want me to take you to the hospital?" the woman asked. "No," Joanna replied. "I'm okay, thank you." Joanna drew her hair into a ponytail, and the girl was shocked when she saw who it was that had been puking. "Mrs. Green..." she gaped. Joanna sighed and said, "Forget I was here." The girl nodded, and Joanna walked out of the washroom with her head held high. She left the Green Building straightaway and asked Olivia to meet her at the Injoy Bar. Once there, Joanna proceeded to drink the day away, and her friend kept her company. Around noon, Olivia asked Joanna, "What do you see in Ken?" Joanna was drunk already. She smirked and said, "He is the best person in this world, and he has the most beautiful eyes in this world..." She began to cry as she talked. Suddenly, a greasy man came up behind them and asked, "Can I buy the two most beautiful ladies in the bar a drink?" Olivia pushed the man away, but like a Bozo Bop Punching Bag, he jumped right back into the game. Olivia pushed him again, but this time he would not budge. She had caught him off guard the first time. This time he was ready for her assault, and he was too heavy for her to move. The man reached out to touch Olivia's face, but Joanna swatted it away. "Hey, what do you think you are doing?" she hissed. The man smiled. He shamelessly grabbed Olivia's wrist, and then he said, "I just want to buy you both a drink." Olivia looked down at his hand and her wrist in dismay. "Leggo," she cried. "You're hurting me!" The man chuckled and said, "What can you do to me if I don't let go?"
