Chapter 17: Divorce Agreement

1087 Words
As Brian got out of the car, Joanna shouted at him: "Brian, you are a real jerk! You know that?" Brian smiled and said, "You can use my car to drive yourself home. There is not a good place to catch a taxi around here." As Brian walked away, Joanna cursed his name. As she drove home, though, whenever she thought of him, she felt all warm and tingly. It felt like her body was betraying her.   ***   By the time Joanna got back to Green's villa, it was already midnight. Ken was sitting on the sofa, and she walked over and sat across from him. Ken did not ask her why she had come back so late, but he did ask her if there was something wrong. When she said that there wasn't, he took out a file from his briefcase and handed it to her. "Sign this if there is no problem," he said. Joanna looked at the first page and was shocked to discover that it was a "Divorce Agreement." She felt a little uncomfortable, but because Ken was no longer a priority in her life, the feeling quickly passed. After a moment, she tore the file into four pieces and handed it back to Ken. Ken clenched his fists in anger as he watched Joanna, and once he had the papers in his hand, he threw them in her face. "Joanna!" he shouted. "What are you doing? Do you want to annoy me? You know that I don't love you!" Joanna glared at Ken. "I won't pester you anymore," she said. She forced herself to smile. "It's okay to get a divorce, but I'll be the one who writes the divorce agreement." Ken looked at her in surprise. He thought that she tore up the divorce agreement because she did not want a divorce. Now that he knew she was agreeable, he felt a little uncomfortable. "Okay," he said. "Since you agreed, write it and give it to me. ASAP." Joanna: "Okay." Ken took the briefcase upstairs after he had finished talking with Joanna. At the stairs, he looked back at Joanna and said, "I will move out tomorrow, and you can live in this villa." Of course, it was not necessary to tell her this. After all, he did not care about her feelings. For some reason, though, he felt a sudden inexplicable urge to ensure that she was taken care of. Joanna: "This villa belongs to the Green family. Don't leave it to me. I'll move out tomorrow." Ken frowned and went upstairs without saying anything else.   ***   When Sarah heard that Tina had been arrested, she was so furious. The people she had hired had mysteriously disappeared, and now Tina was in prison. It was too much to bear. If Joanna were in front of her at that moment, she would have said, "Joanna, you are not the little girl you once were! You are getting so much pleasure from your attacks on me. But if I take you down now, it will feel much better than bullying you ever did. Tomorrow, you will be the one who is expelled from Devine's, and I will be the one laughing! You just wait and see. Devine's is not the right place for you. You should go!"   ***   The next day, Kris came to the company early and put a document in the drawer of Joanna's desk. No one was there, so no one knew anything about it.   ***   Before Joanna left for work, she called Olivia to have her stuff packed and removed from the Green's Villa.   ***   When Ken got up, he saw the luggage piled in the living room, and he was a little unhappy. He went to Joanna's room and knocked, but no one answered. He opened the door and saw that it was empty, and there was a sense of emptiness in his heart. He remembered that when she had first come here, she had been happy, and he had helped her unpack her belongings. Olivia was there, finishing up, and when she saw Ken, she said, "Good morning, Mr. Green." Ken had never liked Olivia, but she was Joanna's friend, so he forced himself to smile and said, "Good morning. Have you been packing Joanna's belongings?" Olivia didn't want to answer him, but it would have been rude not to, so she nodded. Ken could tell that Olivia did not want to talk to him, so he nodded back and walked away.   ***   When Joanna arrived at work, she overheard people talking about her in the staff room. One person said, "I can't believe that the new vice general manager already made such a big mistake. I heard that the company lost nearly 30 million dollars because of her error." "It's true," someone said. "The general manager is so angry about it." "But the general manager gave her so much work," a third voice chimed in. "I think it's normal for people to make mistakes." "Well, I guess we'll have to wait and see," the first person said. "Maybe it's just a misunderstanding." "I have a feeling that the general manager is sabotaging her," muttered a fourth person. "Watch your mouth," the first person said. "If the general manager heard what you just said, you would get fired!" Joanna listened calmly to their discussion. Once she was satisfied that she'd heard enough, she walked past the staff room and into her office. When she got into her office, the first thing that she noticed was that her drawer was closed. Joanna frowned. She knew that she had left it open. Joanna had just sat down when someone knocked on the door. She looked up as Kris walked in. He smirked and said, "Ms. Devine, the general manager wants to see you in his office." Joanna stood up and gave Kris the documents she had reviewed the previous night. "These are the document from yesterday," she said. "Distribute them appropriately." "Sure," Kris said as he took the documents. He thought that Joanna was really stupid. The general manager had played a trick on her to embarrass. Tina had completed all of these documents, and there had been no need for her to do any of the work that she'd done. When Joanna arrived at the general manager's office, she could tell that Mike was unhappy with her. He looked like he wanted to choke her to death. Mike's assistant Molly Peck was standing next to him indifferently.
