Chapter 18 Evan blinked when the afternoon sunlight hit his eyes. He realized he’d stepped outside of the high school, onto the stairs heading to the front lawn. Same as he did every day. But when he got to the sidewalk today, he turned left to walk home alone instead of right to meet Anne in front of the middle school next door. He shook his head, trying to remember the last few hours. He couldn’t say it passed in a blur. A blur would be something, anything he could recall. Evan’s afternoon had passed in a blank. One foot in front of the other was all he could concentrate on now.
