Ready To Talk Business

1160 Words
Jaelyn walks as quickly as she can towards Nina's office. She doesn't know how long her composure will last. She fights to stay on course but with him following her so close from behind it's proving to be rather difficult. She keeps quiet the entire way and she is glad when he does too. She is in no mood for pleasantries. When they reach Nina's office she is more than glad to hand him over. "Please you may go in." She sees him hesitate and she prays he doesn't decide to talk to her. Luckily for her he doesn't and walks into Nina's office. She is quick to close the door and just stands there holding on to the handle. Her heart is still racing and she feels all the pressure in her building up. She leans back on the wall and tries to catch her breath. She literally has to breathe in and out to help herself calm down. All this stress is not good for her or the baby but it's something she can't control. She feels a little betrayed after she hears happy voices in Nina's office. No doubt those two are happy to see each other and it stings to be on the outside. Once upon a time they used to be a gang of crazy friends that loved each other but not anymore. It took just one innocent night for Jaelyn to see the true colours of the person she loved the most and that was it. She can't blame Nina though, after all she can't expect Nina to cut ties with him too. She decides to leave and walks straight to her office. Her plans for lunch forgotten. If she is being honest she is not hungry anymore. In her office she goes straight to her couch and sits down. One look at her bump and she starts crying. It's her constant reminder of that one night that she so much wants to forget. Lately she had been alright and she thought she was over him completely. But seeing him again made her realize that the hurt is just as raw as it was the day he broke up with her. Her sobs increase with every memory that is being unearthed in her mind. All the words he spoke to her are ringing in her head. His smile on his engagement day makes her cry even more. It's been a long journey with a lot of changes, commitment and adjustments on her part but she feels like all she has done is nothing because all her resolve to be strong is out of the window and she is struggling to even be in his presence. She wonders what is wrong with her. She is not supposed to be crying over him, she has done enough of that but her tears just keep flowing. All the sadness that she had tucked away just lays bare in her soul. She had promised herself over and over again that she wasn't going to cry over him but seeing him again today just made her break that promise. Something she does often when it comes to him. Back at the reception just for a moment her heart skipped a bit. Standing there in all his glory he was her Lucas, the man She had loved with all her heart. But when the memory of their break up surfaced all that changed. He was just the man who threw her away at the first chance he got. Just like every one, he too thought she was nothing. "A gold digging p********e to be precise." She flinches when those words come out of her mouth. That description of her by him left her damaged. She would think about every moment they spent together and wonder if all of it was him just pretending. She wondered if he was with her out of pity or if he really loved her. She would try to think of all the moments he stood up for her too, whether it was all a lie. Maybe he just wanted to sleep with her and then throw her away and when Ray beat him to it he backed out. She sighs loudly. "No more." "No more tears Jaelyn." "You are a beautiful smart woman and you are about to become one beautiful mom. So no more crying." "If people don't appreciate you it's their loss." After her pep talk to herself she gets up and walks over to her laptop. "Time to be a business woman once again." She wipes her tears and switches on her laptop and goes straight to her email. It's time to put her personal feelings aside and make some hard decisions. She clicks one of the unread emails from miller construction. "Let's see what you are willing to offer Lucas." She clicks open the attachment and starts studying it. She finds everything she needs in there which makes her job easier. She sits back in her seat making sure there is enough room for her and her baby to breath comfortably. A smile forms on her lips as she concocts her plan of action. If he wants to insist on working with her she might as well get the most out of this deal. A while later a knock on her door with Nina poping her head in makes her stop what she is doing and waits for her to speak even though she knows exactly what she is about to say. "So..." Nina begins her statement but it dies down before she can say more when Jaelyn looks at her with a smile. "You are smiling." "Why the hell are you smiling?" Nina points an accusing finger at her. "And why shouldn't I?" Jaelyn has an almost full blown smile right now and she can see Nina look confused. "Don't tell me its because of him being here." "And what if it is?" "Well that would be insane!" "No it's about the deal." Nina snaps her fingers like she just caught on what Jaelyn is thinking. "You are doing it..." it comes out more of a statement than a question. Jaelyn is not giving off anything as she just continues smiling at her. "Now wait a minute...do I sense some kind of revenge going on here?" Nina stands in front of Jaelyn with arms akimbo. "What are you planning Jae?" "Mmmmm nothing.." Jaelyn feigns innocence but Nina doesn't buy it. "I know you are planning something and you better tell me now Jaelyn Gray." But all Jaelyn does is laugh. She leans further back on her seat and gives Nina a side look.. "Let's just say am now ready to talk business with Miller construction. " she smiles mischievously at her friend. She is so ready to butt heads with her ex boyfriend and right now she holds all the cards. "Time to make you sweat a little Lucas Miller."
