"Ouch!" Jaelyn was midway getting off the bed when a throbbing pain in her head causes her to sit right back. For a few seconds she just sits there with her head in her laps. A cold breeze blowing over her makes Jaelyn look down at herself. She panics when she realizes that she is naked. She never sleeps naked ever. A quick scan of her surrounding and she starts shaking at what she sees. Her clothes that she wore last night are littered all over the floor together with empty wine bottles and glasses. She grabs a sheet from the bed to cover herself but that reveals blood stains and another body that had been laying just next to her. The sight of blood makes her heart race because this means that she... "No no no no...it can't be" she cries out loud. Her cries awaken the figure on the bed and when the person turns to her she is more confused and is almost having a heart attack. "Ray?" Did she just sleep with Ray? What had she done! She tries to think about last night but she comes up with nothing but a headache. She turns to the person on the bed. "Ray...what did you do?" a lump is forming in her throat and she is on the verge of crying. "Jae?" Ray looks at her confused. He seems to have a headache too looking at how he is holding onto to his head. "Tell me we didn't" "What?" "Tell me we didn't Ray!" She is frantic. "I can't and you said you liked it and wanted it" Ray replies when he figures out what she is asking. He says it like it was the most normal thing. "I did?" "No I wouldn't...did I?" Everything he is saying doesn't make any sense. And her mind is short of any other explanation though. Her headache is not helping matters either. She runs to him and holds him wanting to wake him up just incase he is talking in his sleep. But just then the door to the room opens and the last person she'd want to see her like this is staring straight at her. There is a storm in his eyes that she had never seen before. Without saying anything he turns around and walks out of the room. The banging of the door makes Jaelyn jump from the bed with only a bed sheet wrapped around her and walks out of the room quickly. She runs as fast as she can trying to catch up to him and when she does she holds his arm and makes him stop. "Lucas...it's not what you think. Please let me explain, please" Tears are already falling when she sees how he is looking at her. The eyes that had looked at her lovingly are now only showing disdain for her. He forcefully pulls his arm away causing her to fall down. "Do you know how much I looked for you last night? I even thought something bad may have happened to you but all this time you were with him?" His voice is so cold. "Lucas... I wasn't with him. I...I don't know what happened I swear. Please believe me" "I should have known you were just like them. My mother was right. You are just a gold digging p********e" "Get out of my hotel!" Jaelyn is shocked. She just looks at him unable to say anything. Her tears fall freely. she cannot believe that those words just came out of his mouth. She had wanted to explain to him but what could she say? That she just woke up in bed with his best friend and that she had just lost her virginity to him. Something that she had promised she would keep just for him. Would he have believed her if she told him that she remembers nothing of what happened last night? His retreating back makes sobs to escape her mouth. Her soul is shattering with every step that he takes away from her. She could take all the filthy words that were thrown at her by everybody else but to hear them from him feels like a deep stub to her heart and her tears won't stop falling. The person that stood up for her all this time just threw her away like she was nothing. She does feel like she is nothing too, sitting down on the hotel floor clad in nothing but a bed sheet. Someone comes to her side and picks her up from the floor. She doesn't even look at whoever it is. The person leads her the way she had come and she just walks unaware of her surroundings. "Why didn't he let me explain?" She is beyond broken, Lucas is her everything. How could she do this to him? Everything was fine, more than fine last night. How did a simple dinner party make her end up here. And why can't she remember anything? "Jae..." Ray's voice makes her look at him. They were back in the room they had slept in. "Am sorry, am so sorry Jae" "Are you?" She grits her teeth. "I swear if I had known that you didn't want to..." Her slap makes him shut up. "He is your best friend Ray. It should never have been a question of whether I wanted to or not" She sits down on the bed shaking her head. She has no strength to do anything else. "What happened?" She looks up at Ray who has been quiet after her words. "Hmmm?" "Last night, what happened?" "I can't remember anything Ray" when she looks at him she finds him frowning. "Honestly I don't remember much too. I kind of had too much to drink last night. You know me and parties and am kind of still out too" he rubs his neck. "But I don't drink. I would never touch alcohol you know that" "Is it possible our drinks could have been laced with something?" That theory gives Jaelyn some hope. If it's true then it would mean she didn't betray Lucas at least not willingly. "I don't know Jae. It's a possibility but then why would someone do that?" Ray replies thoughtfully. "I don't know about you but I know a decent number of people who have a lot to gain from me and Lucas being apart. She goes to pick up her clothes and walks to a joining room that she could see hoping it was a bathroom. Once she is dressed she comes out and picks her handbag. She also gets the wine bottle and glasses and leaves without saying a word. She can feel Ray's eyes on her but she has nothing to say to him. When she comes out of the room she dials a number and the person picks up on the first ring. "Hi Nina" "What do you want from me?" The sleepy voice whines on the other side. "Did you make up with your boyfriend at the lab?" "He is not my boyfriend" Nina bites back. "Good because I need your help" "Hey I said nothing about making up with him" Nina protests. "Am sending you something just now please let him have a look. I will put all the details of the tests I need" "Hey I..." "Bye Nina...I love you" she cuts the line and takes a deep breath. She is pretty sure her friend could not tell that something was wrong with her. She is no mood for Nina's lectures yet. Jaelyn is sure she will have a lot to say when she hears about what happened. Back at her apartment Jaelyn stands under her shower and just let's the water run. If only it could erase everything that had happened to her. The events of today still feel unreal. She can't wrap her head around her losing her virginity in such a way. It was something precious to her. When she is done she takes a seat on her couch and switches on her T.V. She flips through the channels trying to find something to get her mind off everything as she waits for Nina's call. It's the only hope she has for an explanation. There is no way she would sleep with Lucas's best friend, never. Her phone rings and Nina's name on the screen gets her heart racing a little. "Hi Nina" "So before I give you the results tell me why you wanted to know if that wine had been spiked? Did something happen?" "Nina please just tell me what the results say and then I will explain to you" She was still flipping through the channels when a headline catches her attention. 'The most eligible bachelor is now off the market' Lucas's smiling face makes her drop everything. She cannot believe what she is seeing. "Lucas?" The face she saw that morning and the man she is looking at right now is totally different. And the woman on his arm makes her feel like she's been slappped in the face. She thought she was broken by everything that happened this morning but a close up of the engagement ring brings her whole world crashing down. Its the exact same design that she had told him she'd want if he ever thought of popping the question. The lump in her throat feels like she could die any moment. She knew he was hurt, but this...this is him punishing her in the worst possible way. She falls to her knees crying out. Tears spill over and flow down her face like a river escaping a dam. Everything she had experienced today weighs heavily on her. She thought there was hope to make it right but she was wrong. With trembling lips she picks up her phone. "Nina..Can I come over?" She rubs the tears that won't stop falling. "Come over? But what about everything else?" "Please Nina.." "What!...are you crying? What did Lucas do?" "Nina please" she is practically begging. "Of course you know you are welcome. Just make sure that by the time you get to the island you are ready to tell me why you are crying" "Okay" she whispers before she cuts the line.
