Chapter 5 - Doctor Visit

3501 Words
I feel my tears threatening to escape, and I feel like my stomach is in my throat. I know I need to calm down and control my breathing, but I can't seem to. I hear the door open again, which just sets and makes everything worse. I'm crying because I don't want to be punished, but Master seeing me cry will only make him punish me more, which I don't want, but the thought of being punished worse is only making me cry more. Stupid Slave. We can't let Master see me like this. I haven't even been here for a day, and he might kill me. Oh no, this is not good. I hear footsteps approach me. I feel like I can't breathe. No matter how many times I breathe in, I don't feel the air going in. I feel hands wrapping around my arms, slowly pulling me to my feet. Oh no. I look up a little to see a chest that I recognize as my New Master's, meaning Master knows I'm crying. This is not good. I close my eyes, bracing myself for impact. "Baby, open your eyes," Master says while placing a hand on my cheek, and running his thumb across my eyebrow. I obey. Rule number 3, always obey. I open my eyes, looking at his chest, trying my best to bring in air. When did breathing become so hard? "Crap, I think she is having a panic attack" I hear a second voice but don't make a move to see who it is. Master drops both his hands; he is no longer touching me, which makes me feel a little bit better. Another man walks over, pulling Master away from me a few feet. I can feel the air going in for the first time, which calms me down some. The other Master gets in between New Master and me and bends down, so he is looking into my eyes. I shut my eyes. Don't make eye contact. He will only get mad. I suddenly can't breathe again. I feel him take a few steps backward, giving me some space. "Stay back; let her have some room to breathe." I heard one Master say to another. Before I realize what I'm doing, I take a step backward. Then another. And another until my back hits a wall. The more room I put between them and me, the better I feel. I still couldn't breathe normally, but just a little bit better, so I wasn't thinking I was about to die. "Sit down and put your head in between your knees. We aren't going to move a muscle; just focus on your breathing." I hear one say. Slide down the wall pulling my knees to my chest. I place my forehead on my knees and close my eyes. I focus all my energy on just breathing full, aware of the two masters in the room that could decide to punish me at any moment. It takes a little while for me to start breathing normally and another moment for me to feel good enough to look up at my new Master to see how angry he is. I take in a deep breath and slowly look up. I look and see their feet. They are standing a few steps away, exactly where they were when I sat down. He said they wouldn't move, and it looks like they didn't. I keep looking up, taking a quick glance at their faces. Neither seems to look angry, but I can't tell what they are thinking. I've never seen someone look like they look. "You ok, baby?" New Master says. I nod and fix my eyes on the ground a few feet in front of me. "I'm a doctor. I'm not going to hurt you. I'm just here to make sure that you aren't hurt or in pain." The other Master says. "I need to make sure that you aren't injured. Is that ok?" He says. I wait for New Master to answer because he can't be talking to me. Masters have never cared if I was hurt before, so he has to be talking to the new Master. New Master doesn't answer, though. "Do you understand what I am saying? Is it ok if I examine you, girl?" He says, taking a step closer to me. I look up at him with a confused look on my face. He bends down some to look me in the eye. Is he talking to me? Is he asking me if it's ok to touch me? This has to be a trick. If I say yes, New Master might get angry for letting him touch me. If I say no, this Master could get mad for denying him, and New Master could get mad, I deny this Master. I nod; saying yes means that at least one is happy with me. This Master turns to grab a bag left on the floor that I didn't notice before. Oh no. He puts the bag on the bed and starts to open it. No, no, no, this isn't good. He starts pulling something out. I can't tell what it is, but it looks shiny and metal. This is going to hurt. I feel tears building up again. The Master turns to me with it in his hand. I take a good look at it. It is a shiny metal that goes up and splits off into two pieces. I've never seen anything like this before. What is it? I tilt my head to the side a little trying to figure out if he is holding it upside down, but I still don't recognize it. He must have seen me looking at it because he starts speaking to me. "This is a stethoscope. It helps me hear your heartbeat. I'm going to use it to make sure that you're ok." He says to me. I don't say anything. Just keep looking at it. He walks over to me and puts two pieces in his ears. My eyes go wide. He picks up the other end and places it on my chest. I cringe and close my eyes, waiting for the pain to register. It never does. After a second, I open my eyes, looking at my chest in confusion. He has the metal thing on my chest, but it doesn't hurt me. This Master lets out a sigh and then takes the two things out of his ears. "Here, put these in your ears. like I just did mine." He says while handing it to me. I do as he says. He then puts the metal thing back on my chest and puts my hand on top of it. Buh bum Buh bum Buh bum My eyes go wide as I look at him. He smiles. I take the metal thing and put it on his chest in the same spot he put it on my chest. Buh bum Buh bum Buh bum "That's my heartbeat you're hearing. It's cool, isn't it?" He says. "Cool," I say, agreeing with him. He laughs. I put the metal thing back on my heart. Wow. That's so weird. Can he just do this whenever he wants? Does he just walk around doing this to everyone? Why? I notice that this Master and New Master is talking, but I don't listen. I just keep listening to my heartbeat. I walk towards the bed and place the metal thing on it to see if it makes a noise. It doesn't. Then I put it on the wall, maybe I can hear outside! That would be cool! I can't hear anything. I wonder if I can listen to my own thoughts. I put it on my forehead. Oh, wait, I can already hear my own thoughts because they're my thoughts. I turn around to look around to see what else I could put this on to hear. When I turn around, I notice both masters looking at me with amused looks on their faces. I realize that I'm still holding it to my forehead. I lower it so I am no longer holding it to my forehead. New Master takes a few steps towards me, grabbing my hand that is holding the metal end and then raising it to his chest so I can hear his heartbeat. It's going so fast. We stay like this for a minute before he sighs and takes a few steps back. What else can I hear? ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Damon's POV After the doctor and I got back to my room, I looked around. My little mate was nowhere to be seen. Before I started panicking, I walked over to the other side of the bed, where I had left her on the floor. Sure enough, there she was doing the tornado drill thing again. I hear her taking a deep breath; I bend down to help her off the floor as gently as I can. She won't look at me, but I see the tears running down her cheeks. Why is she crying? "Baby open your eyes" I want her to tell me what's wrong so I can fix it. She opens her eyes and tries to take in another breath, but it doesn't sound right. "Crap, I think she is having a panic attack." the doctor says behind me. s**t, what do I do? I don't even realize it when I let her go. The doctor walks between my little mate and me. I fight back the urge to rip his head off his body because right now, I need him to fix my little mate. He bends down some to get in her face, just looking for a second, I guess looking for something to confirm his theory. He must have found it. "Stay back. Let her have some room to breathe." He says as he turns to face me, but I can't take my eyes off my mate. She starts taking some steps backward until she hits the wall. The doctor turns back to look at her. "Sit down and put your head in between your knees. We aren't going to move a muscle; just focus on your breathing." The doctor says to my mate. She does what he says. My wolf wants me to run over to her and hold her, but the doctor puts a hand on my shoulder and looks me in the eye, shaking his head no. He knows that wolves just want to be with their mates in times like this. Why is he telling me not to go to her? I change my mind. I'm going to kill him; I'll deal with the consequences later. Just then, I hear my little mate's breathing start to slow down, becoming more normal. I forgot all my thoughts of killing the doctor. We both look at her to see if she is ok. We stand in silence for a couple of minutes, just listening to the sound of my little mate breathing. It sounds completely normal now, but she still isn't looking up at us; I guess she still doesn't feel good. I go to say something, but right as I open my mouth, she starts to look up at us. She looks at me. "You ok, baby?" I ask as we make eye contact. She immediately looks away; I guess talking scares her. "I'm a doctor. I'm not going to hurt you. I'm just here to make sure that you aren't hurt or in pain. I need to make sure that you aren't injured. Is that ok?" The doctor says. We wait a minute for her to answer, but she never does. She just acts like she doesn't hear him. "Do you understand what I am saying? Is it ok if I examine you, girl?" The doctor says, taking a step closer to my little mate. Finally, after another minute, she finally nods. The doctor turns to put up his bag with his medical supplies, and she is watching him. He starts pulling something out of his bag, and I can see the fear in her eyes. She is following his every movement. Maybe she didn't hear him say that he is a doctor. Why does she look so scared of a doctor? He pulls out a stethoscope to check her heartbeat, but you would think he was holding a gun to her head by the look on her face. He put the earpieces in his ear and then the metal part on her chest to check her heartbeat; she closed her eyes and flinched as he touched her with the metal part. If that bastard hurt her- "Here, put these in your ears. like I just did mine." The doctor says while taking it out of his ears and handing it to her. She does what he says. He then picks up the metal thing and puts it back on her chest while picking up her hand with his other hand placing it on the metal thing, so she is now holding it. She holds it for a second before her eyes go wide, and she lets out a gasp. I don't think she even realized it because she was so focused on listening to her heartbeat. What's going on with her heartbeat? Why would the doctor let her listen to it? Doctors don't do that. After a moment of listening to her heartbeat, she takes the metal thing off her chest and puts it on his where his heart is. Why does she want to hear his heart?! She should want to hear mine, not his. She is my mate, not his! "That's my heartbeat, your hearing. It's cool, isn't it?" He says to her. "Cool." She says back, looking at him smiling. She puts the metal thing back on her chest. The doctor walks toward me while my little mate holds it to her chest. "From what I heard, her heartbeat sounds normal, with is good. Especially considering last night, she was a snack for a vampire." The doctor says to me. "Mmhmm" That is all I can say back to him to ensure I don't kill him right here. "I'm going to let her play with that for a couple more minutes." "Why?" "A lot of the stuff that doctors use looks scary if you don't know what it is. So a lot of times when children first visit a doctor, we let them play with the stuff a little, so they get comfortable and know that it isn't meant to hurt them." "She isn't a child, though." "But you and I both know what we saw last night. That wasn't a place I wanted to stay in for any amount of time, and I'm a full-grown werewolf. She's a small human. So if I have to treat her with kid gloves right now so that she is comfortable and doesn't have another panic attack, then that's what I'm going to do." he explains. "Fine," I say, looking at my little mate, who is in her own little world where she doesn't seem to notice us at all. "Alpha, in my limited experience with her, it's my professional opinion we have a long road ahead before she is mentally and physically where she should be." The doctor says with a serious expression and a sad tone. "I know she needs to gain weight, but what do you mentally think she has work to do before she is where she should be" I question, looking down at him and getting angry. "Look at her. She's holding a stethoscope to her forehead right now, probably trying to hear her own thoughts." He says while turning to look at her. I loot at her too. He was right. She is staring at the wall holding it to her head. She turns around and notices us looking at her. I see her cheeks turn a shade darker. The doctor and I both let out a small laugh. She lowers the metal part from her head and will no longer look at us. She looks so sad now. She was smiling a second ago. I want to make her smile again. I find myself walking toward her and grabbing her hand. I feel the sparks shoot up my arm and all over my body. That's such a weird feeling. I see why people like it. I pull her hand and the metal thing to my chest. I want my mate to hear my heartbeat. I want her to hear that my heart races when she is near me. She listens for a second, then smiles. I like seeing her smile. And I like that Just hearing my heartbeat causes her to smile. My little mate. "Ok. Now that you got to play with the stethoscope, we can continue with the check-up." The doctor says, breaking me out of my thoughts. My little mate's smile drops as she pulls the earpieces out of her ears. She walks to him and looks at the floor handing him his stethoscope back. "Thank you. Now, can you tell me if you are hurt or experiencing any pain?" The doctor says to her. She shakes her head no. Thank goddess. I don't want her to be hurt. "Ok, that's good. I know that you had an... encounter with a vampire last night. I need to check the bite marks to make sure they heal properly. Can you show me where you were bitten?" The doctor asks her. She nods her head and tilts her head to the side, moving her hair behind her back. She then points to a spot on her neck just over her collar. I need to find a way to get that off her neck. I'll call a locksmith later today. The doctor examines her neck while I google locksmiths in my area. "Mmm, that looks to be healing nicely. That's good. Is that the only spot?" The doctor asks her. I snap my head to look at her. I didn't even think about there being more than one bite mark. My little mate shakes her head no. My breathing stops. There were two vampires. Or one vampire twice. That doesn't make me feel any better. I see her reaching down some grabbing the bottom of the sweatshirt she is wearing. Without hesitating, she pulls it off, letting it drop beside her. She is now completely naked in front of another guy and me. My first instinct is to cover her up and kill him, but my heart stops when I see the bruises on her. Nearly every inch of her body had bruises, bite marks, or claw marks, not to mention old scars. I can see the outline of every rib, her collar bones, and her hips. She has a lot of weight she needs to gain. "Ok, let's get started then." The doctor says. Then I smell the metallic smell of blood again. Why? Nobody is bleeding. Nothing happened to cause anyone to bleed. I'm looking at my mate; she isn't bleeding that I can see. I have no reason to be. The doctor doesn't seem to be. Why do I smell blood? "Turn around. I need to get an idea of everything before I get started." The doctor says, looking up from a clipboard he seems to have pulled out of thin air. My mate turns around, and I see a few more bruises on her ass and upper thighs. I feel my wolf wanting to take over and kill whoever hurt her. But we can't do that. Not right now. Right now, we have to be here to make sure my mate is ok. "I'm going to move your hair so I can see your back." The doctor says, reaching up with his hand that is holding a pen. He then used the pen to move my mate's hair around her shoulder, revealing her bleeding back. Even without the bleeding, her back looks worse than her front. It's covered in long deep scars across her whole back, more bite marks, and different colored bruises. "Oh my. Why didn't you tell me you were bleeding, dear? She must have opened up some wounds when she slid down the wall when she had a panic attack." The doctor says more to himself than to either my mate or me. He puts the clipboard down and starts pulling bandages out of his bag. Why didn't mate tell me that she was hurt? I don't understand; she even told the doctor she wasn't hurt or in pain. Ugh, it's going to be a long morning, and judging by the number of marks on her body, her hesitation towards the doctor's equipment, and her tendency to lie about her pain, I'm willing to bet we will be here until mid-afternoon. Ok, Damon, all you have to do is not kill anyone.
