Damon's POV
"Hey, pretty lady, how ya doin'?" Colton says.
"For once, can we please go somewhere without you flirting with our waitress! You don't even know what she looks like," Axel groans.
"She isn't a waitress-"
"She is taking our order and giving us food in exchange for money. What would you call her?"
"This is a drive-thru. She isn't a waitress. She is a drive-thru girl. Right, Damon?"
"I don't care. Just order your damn food. We have places we need to be. And both of you just shut up or one f*****g second," I reply through gritted teeth.
"Fine. What crawled up your ass and died?" Colton replies while turning away to order. "Sorry about my friend, pretty lady, he is on his period. Don't mind him." Colton tells the drive-thru lady and proceeds to tell her what he would like to eat while I roll my eyes and go back to texting on my phone, and Axel laughs.
Axel is my Gamma, and Colton is my beta. They are my two best friends... unfortunately. They get on my last nerve most of the time, but sometimes they are funny. They argue about nearly everything, but they can be helpful sometimes when it comes to business. Axel and his sister joined our pack when we were 14; before that, they were rogues after their parents died in a vampire attack. Colton and his mother moved to my pack when we were 8. They were in a pack down south when one of my pack members was there visiting. It turns out that the pack member and Colton's mom were second-chance mates. They moved here not long after that.
Colton's one of those "good ol' boys" who likes fishing and says y'all. He had a slight accent when they moved here, but I think his accent only got worse since he came here and discovered girls. He likes to play up an accent to flirt with girls and says it helps him stand out. And believe me, he needs all the help he can get. Poor boy used to go home alone almost every time we went out to a club before meeting his mate. Although meeting his mate never stopped him from flirting with other girls. He would never cheat, but he says it's hard to turn off the charm, although I don't think he ever had much, to begin with.
On the other hand, I have too many girls. Being the alpha and all, a lot of she-wolves throw themselves at me, not that I need them to. Human girls throw themselves at me too. It gets a little boring.
"Axel..... AXEL, stop texting and order your f*****g food!" Colton yells, looking in the rearview mirror at Axel, who is too busy texting his mate to notice what's happening around him. He doesn't even look up before he utters, "yeah yeah... just get me one of whatever you got."
Colton rolls his eyes and says, "Got it. You want one hot dog, nothing but mustard, and instead of a bun, you want two old french fries they found on the ground?"
"Yeah, sounds good," Axel says, still not looking up from his phone.
Colton and I share a sideways glance before he turns to get another one of what he ordered. Then pulling the car up, he pays for the food and drives away. Headed to our destination.
"What's so interesting on that phone that had you order a mustard hot dog with moldy fries?" I ask Axel.
"It's Sarah, she- wait, I ordered what?! Colton, I'm going to kill you! You didn't order that for me, did you?" Axel says, finally looking up from his phone. Colton and I laugh.
"So what's Sarah up to that has you so distracted?" Colton asks.
"She is shopping and wants my opinion on a red dress or a blue shirt-"
"I'll never understand the mate bond. You sound like the biggest p***y right now," I interject.
"Just you wait. I used to think the same thing until I found Sarah. You'll be doing the exact same thing," Axel replies.
"It's true. And I, for one, can't wait to see the big bad alpha on his knees for some girl." Colton adds.
"Yeah, well, keep dreaming. I don't have a mate, and even if I did, that wouldn't change anything about how I act." I respond.
"You have a mate. Every werewolf has a mate." Says Colton.
"Then how come I haven't found her, huh? You met yours when you were 16, Axel and Colton even, you met yours when we were traveling the packs looking for our mates. We went to every werewolf pack and didn't find her. Where do you think she is?"
"She might not be a werewolf, or she might not be 16 yet," Axel interjects.
"I'm 27. If she isn't 16 yet, I don't want her. That's a creepy age difference."
"Speaking of mates, Sarah told me to ask you when Rachel is coming back, Cole," Axel says.
"A couple of weeks, depending on how everything goes. Her grandfather isn't doing too well, and she wants to be there, and if that's what she wants, I want that too." He replies.
"Ok, I'm over this. We're almost there anyway. We need to go over the plan again," I say, growing tired of their needless whining about their mates.
"We know. Blend in, gather intel, and get the lay of the land. Once we know who and how many we are facing, then we strike." Colton says while taking a huge bite of his burger.
"The strike teams are already in position and waiting on our command. We have doctors standing by in case anyone needs any immediate medical attention and a lot of small bills if it is just a strip club," Axel says with a mischievous smile.
"I'm telling my sister you said that." I smile back at him. His face suddenly drops.
"Please don't. She will kill me. Don't tell Sarah," he begs. Colton and I laugh.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Colton, Axel, and I observe the strip club for a while. It seems to be a completely normal strip club serving a healthy variety of clientele. The only odd thing about it is that all the strippers have a collar and leash that leads off stage. It's weird enough that I think we should keep investigating.
I seem not to be the only one to think so. Colton grabs one of the vampires that seem to be working here and says that it's my bachelor party and we would like a private dance with any dancer they have available. Let's hope that the dancer is in a chatty mood. He looks at his clipboard and motions for us to follow him. He leads us through a side door leading to a dimly lit hallway with red wallpaper with black trim and several doors on either side. He leads us to the third door on the left. He motions for us to enter but stops us right before opening it.
"This one has been giving us a little trouble tonight. Don't hesitate to punish her as you see fit," he says before walking away in the direction we came from, making us all question what he meant. Colton and Axel share a sideways glance, and I reach for the door again. Turning the knob and entering
The room somehow has worse lighting than the hallway making it barely visible to look around, although we could still see just fine with werewolf sight. The walls had the same ugly red wallpaper and black trim. There are seats scattered around the small room and a pole in the center of the room. I took two steps in and felt my foot hit something. I heard a small whimper and looked down. There is a girl With shoulder-length brown hair laying on the ground with her feet under her and hands behind her neck like she is practicing for a tornado drill. Weird.
"I didn't see you there. Are you ok?" I say. No reply. Colton walks to the seat on the back wall, and I walk to the left, still facing the girl. Axel closes the door and stays by it to ensure there are no unwanted guests.
"Stand up," I say. She hurries to her feet while still crying. Standing up reveals deep bruises on her stomach and a black eye. I guess that's why they have such dim lights, so the humans don't see the bruises.
"Damn, Damon. How hard did you kick her? She's crying." Colton says. This only seems to make her cry more. He stands up walking towards her.
"Hey, we want to help you. We don't want you to dance. We just want you to talk to us. Tell us about this place. We aren't going to hurt you or anything, "Colton says, which seems to get the dancer to stop crying and just stare at him for a second.
"You want to help?" She finally says
Colton answers, "yeah, we want to help-"
"Please- Please, I miss my family so much. This place is horrible. They don't feed us. They don't bathe us. They just spray a hose at us to wake us up in the mornings. And beat us all day long just to punish us. I don't know what for because we spend all day in our cages and at night-"she starts crying hysterically before she finishes her sentence.
"So you aren't a stripper. You aren't here on your own free will?" Colton clarifies
"No. A few weeks ago, I was on my way home from work and stopped at the gas station. The next thing I knew, I woke up here. Please help me. I want to go home."
Axel looks at me then begins texting away on his phone, coordinating with the strike teams. Colton is comforting the girl that is hysterically crying. After a couple of minutes, her cries seem to subside.
Colton says, "Ok, get as many girls that you can and tell them to get ready. We're going to leave here in a minute, and you're going to act like everything is completely normal. We are going to come back with reinforcements in half an hour. Be ready. One more thing. How do these collars come off? Do you know where they keep the keys?"
"I've never seen them come off," says the girl. "I've tried pulling them, prying it off, everything. I don't even know where a key would go in this thing," she continues.
"Bolt cutters it is then," Axel chimes in.
"Ok, I need you to tell us everything you know about this building and the people in it," Colton says to the girl looking at her in the eye before she nods.
