I could smell the smoke, it was blurring my vision completely. I reach out, coughing, searching for something in my dream like state.
“My love, Ron, speak to me” I hack out between the smoke. That’s right I remember needed to find my mate. The smoke has engulfed most of the house now. Where could he be, please come on.
“Luna, Luna” I hear Michael’s voice faintly somewhere to the left of me, but I’m unable to see much of him other then a shadow of a body in the smoke.
“Micheal I can’t find Ron, where is he” my shout comes out horse due to all the smoke I’ve taken into my lung by now.
“There is no time Luna, we must go, the house is falling apart” as soon as the words left his mouth, his arm reaches out and yanks me to him as a flaming timber falls where I had been standing. Without another word, he scoops me up and rushes away from my room and down the stairs.
“He is your alpha, your best friend, how can you leave without knowing where he is” I can hear the whinnying in my voice as I fight against his grip, but I am just to exhausted from smoke to get out of his grasp.
“A year ago he made me promise if anything ever happened that you, my Luna, the love of his life, was saved first” he grunts a response, but the pain in his eyes from having to carry out his duty as beta to his alpha were killing him. We said nothing more as the house became just a blur in the night....
I jolt up in bed, breathing heavily trying to reorient myself. Sighing, I throw my covers away and drag myself to the shower. It’s been three years since that day and it still plagues my dreams. Here lately, thankfully, it has started to subside some. Only tormenting my nights once a week now. I turn on the shower and hop in, hoping that the warm water as it washes the cold sweat away also takes the side effects of the memory with it.
Once I’m satisfied with the smell of sweat is gone from me, I hop out of the shower and throw on some sweats and my baggy tee. I leave my room and head down to the kitchen where I can smell food cooking and can hear Layla and Micheal chatting away.
“Good Morning, Luna Alpha” Layla’s perky voice chirps at me as I enter the kitchen.
“Good Morning Layla, I’ve told you about that silly title many times” I scoff at her as I grab myself a glass from the cabinet. Like a well oiled machine, Micheal appears next to me with my food and fills my glass with orange juice before doing the same for his mate.
“Thank you Micheal” my stomach growls and I’m sure they both heard it because Layla giggled and Micheal smirked.
“You almost slept the day away” a sigh mentally glad that Micheal didn’t use my formal “title” the pack has adopted for me, Luna Alpha, what kind of nonsense. There was no such thing. Our pack went against all the elders rules accepting me as their alpha. In the elders eyes it could only be, one alpha that must be male to one Luna whom is the female. Well my pack, we were going to rewrite history
