Amanda sat through her substance use class and found herself overwhelmed with information. There was much more to substance use than she ever had understood or imagined. She left her class with tears in her eyes, feeling the overwhelming pain that those who were substance involved experienced.
She heard her phone go off. “I’m out front,” Kyle had typed.
Amanda started to make her way to the front of the main building. Keeping her eyes peeled in the crowds of students for one in particular.
She looked for her favourite blue eyed man, but her heart sunk when she didn’t see him. She sighed as she approached the SUV. Kyle jumped out and rushed to her door, opening it carefully for her.
“Have you been crying, Princess ?” He asked incredulously, when he looked at her in the rear view mirror.
She nodded. “My one class was just so sad,” she explained.
Kyle chuckled softy. “I was preparing to go and kick someone’s ass,” he told her, making her laugh out loud.
“I know I’m ridiculous,” she sighed.
Kyle sighed back, “no you’re not,” he told her. “Your heart is just too big for your own good,”.
Amanda didn’t say anything, just leaned her head on the window, waiting for Kyle to start driving. Instead, he turned around and handed her a note.
“What is this?” She asked him.
He only sighed again and shrugged, giving her a wink and starting up the Suv.
Amanda carefully opened the note.
“Hey beautiful - I have to head out of town tonight as something came up. I was hoping we could talk more while I’m gone. I’m hoping it’s just for one night but you know how things sometimes. Here’s my number if you ever want to text me or if you need anything or if I’m not back and you find yourself lost in the halls… Jake”
Amanda’s heart was racing, as if a helicopter was in her chest and preparing for take off. She glanced up in the rear view mirror and Kyle just gave her a sly grin.
With her heart still racing, Amanda entered his number into her phone. She created a new message and paused. She didn’t even know what to say.
She chewed nervously on her finger nail while staring out the window, watching the greenery of the forests pass by.
“Hey :) “
She hit send and waited. Realizing that she was stupid for not saying who it was and internally kicking herself.
“Hey yourself” he text back
“Beautiful” he text again.
Amanda breathed a sigh of relief. Grateful that he was able to figure out it was her. Then started to wonder if he called other girls beautiful.
“It’s Amanda” she text him, ensuring to clarify.
“I don’t call anyone else beautiful, except my mom” he responded. That earned him a giggle.
“It’s been nice seeing you like this?” Kyle commented from the front seat.
Amanda shot her head up in surprise. “What do you mean?” She asked him.
“Carefree. Alive. Curious. Excited. All the things a woman your age should be,” Kyle told her.
“I’m those things usually, aren’t I?” She asked.
Kyle shook his head. “Some of those things, yes. But I see a lot more spark in you these days,” he told her honestly.
“Well thank you - I think,” she answered and he laughed.
“I’m sad that you’re going out of town. I hope you won’t be gone too long,” she text Jake back.
“Does that mean you like seeing me too?” He quickly fired back.
Amanda chewed her bottom lip. She was already crossing into the land of no return. She might as well jus tho for it.
“Seeing you has definitely been a highlight of my days,” she typed and sent.
“When I didn’t see you after my last class, my heart sunk. I could’ve really used a hug,” she felt so bold sending that one.
“!!!!!” Amanda furrowed her brow.
“You can’t say things to me like that beautiful,” he quickly typed.
“I most certainly can!” She exclaimed back.
“I don’t want to be too forward - but there’s just something about you. I can’t put my finger on it but I’m drawn to you. It’s magnetic” he typed.
She drew in her breath. “I feel it too” was all she said.
They spent the rest of the ride texting, before he had to enter a meeting.
“Can I text you later?” He asked.
“You better!” Was her response
“<3 “
She felt little flutters from that single heart as she put away her phone. It had only been 2 days but this handsome stranger was already interfering in her plan to avoid men. She sighed.
“You got it bad?” Kyle asked her from the front as they pulled up to the castle.
“Bad enough,” she sighed. “But let’s keep that between us,” she told him. He gave her a wink and she knew then that her secret was safe.
She was about to get out of the SUV when she paused. “Kyle? You know most of the local Alphas? Right?” She asked carefully.
Kyle nodded. “You should too if you were studying your Royal homework your dad created for you,” he gave her a teasing look.
She laughed. “Fair. But also - in my defence - I have A heavy semester” she told him.
“You’re only 2 days in, Princess,” he rolled his eyes at her, only causing her to laugh once again.
“Ok. But back to my question. Do you know an Alpha Jake?” She asked him.
He drew in a breath, immediately knowing who she was talking about. “I don’t,” he responded. “But he definitely has a massive Alpha aura,” he added.
Amanda nodded in agreement. “That he does,” she did under her breath. “Do we have any Alphas coming up on retirement?” She asked him.
Kyle snapped his fingers. “That’s it!” He exclaimed. “I think he’s the son of one of the retiring Alphas. Maybe alpha Abraham!” He suggested.
Amanda nodded. “I might investigate a little more” she thanked him with a kiss on the cheek.
Once again the kitchen was empty. “Sandwich?” She asked
He wiggled his eyebrows at her.
She giggled as she pulled out the meat and cheeses and mayo from the fridge. Her mind wandering to the handsome blue eyed man.
