"I'm kind of getting this finally."
"Yea you're doing really good for only 3 hours of practice, princess."
I smile and swing the sword at him again. I've actually been trying to cut one of his arms off for an hour now. I just can't get it. He's to good at blocking.
All you can hear in the entire medical area is the sound of the swords hitting over and over again.
Elkie and Mary are sitting at the nurse's desk with their feet on it reading.
He takes a step towards me and I block his swing.
"Nice job."
I laugh. "This is so fun."
I lift the sword and bring it down as hard as I can towards his shoulder, but he puts his sword up and blocks mine.
There is a loud crash near the nurses desk. We look with the swords still connected in midair.
Elkie fell backwards off her chair. My dad and Tre are standing right beside her.
She climbs back up into her chair. "Sorry sir you startled me." She smiles at me and Dipak. "Doctor, your dad is here."
"Thank you Elkie." We lower the swords and go over to them. "Hi daddy, Hi Tre. What brings you both here?"
"We wanted to check on the patients."
"They're all unconscious but doing well. Everyone is progressing as expected."
"How is Dipak doing here?"
"He's great. Teaching me how to sword fight until the next round with the patients."
Dad crosses his arms. "You're teaching a girl how to use a sword? What is that going to do?"
Dipak smiles. "No sir, I'm teaching a queen how to defend herself by any means necessary."
Tre laughs. "You're going to get your arm cut off."
"Well, at least I'm with the doctor." Dipak smirks.
I hear one of them snicker and cough behind the desk.
Tre glares at him but doesn't say anything back.
Daddy smiles at me. "I like this idea my princess. You learning to defend yourself. It is good for you to swing a sword around a little bit. It's kind of like the horses. I always said a girl on a horse was silly, but you are one of the best riders I know. I think I'll get you a bow and some arrows as well. Might as well teach you everything." He leans in and kisses my head. "My sweet princess. Try not to hurt him to much ok?"
"I promise daddy."
"Why are you doing this?"
Dipak smirks. "Why not Tre? She's actually doing good with it. Would you rather we sit here alone and bored, staring at each other, until my temper cools down?"
"Your temper seems fine to me." I can tell Tre is mad by the way he said that.
"Well it's not."
Daddy smiles at me. "I think it's time we go. You are doing very well here princess."
"Thank you daddy."
Then he looks at Dipak. "You still owe me a door."
"She owes me a window." He winks at me.
I bust out laughing. "Really? I have to fix the nice breeze I let into your office? I mean it was so stuffy in there."
He laughs with me. "That wasn't stuffy princess. That was the new couch smell from all the new couches I get cause you keep sleeping in there." He touches my waist lightly when he says it. I know he's trying to piss Tre off more.
"It was stuffy from lack of air flow... That I fixed. You're welcome." I lean back on the desk right beside him. Our arms are touching.
My dad clears his throat. "You can both just stop redecorating rooms and we'll call it even."
"Deal."
"Yea that's fair." Dipak picks up a paper on the desk and reads it.
Daddy starts walking away and Dipak glances over the paper. "Did you need something else, Tre?"
Daddy stops and looks back over his shoulder.
"Yea, I want to take MY MATE to dinner."
Dipak smiles and very quietly says, "That's the one you had to drug last night, right? Cause she wouldn't do what you wanted." I pretend not to hear. I'm pretty sure the girls at the desk hear it too. Mary's eyes about to pop out of her head.
Tre punches him right in the face.
Daddy pulls Tre back by his shoulders. "WHAT ARE YOU DOING?"
"TRE Why did you do that?" I grab Dipaks face in my hands and check him out. "It's fine. It's healing good. You'll be fine." I run my thumb over his cheek watching the swelling. "Swelling is good."
Dad grabs Tre by the arm and drags him out of the medical area. Neither of them say anything else.
Mary puts down the paper she was pretending to read for the last 20 minutes. "Princess..."
Elkie jumps up. "This place is awesome today." She smiles at Dipak. "You have to come back everyday." Then she sits back down. "Carry on."
Mary laughs. "Princess," Her eyes go from Dipak to me then back to Dipak. She stares at him for a minute. "I'm going to need some time to process my thoughts. I will try again later."
Dorseti walks around the corner. "What I miss?"
Elkie jumps up. "We don't like Tre anymore. We like this one now."
"We don't like Tre?"
"Dorseti, he drugged her last night."
Her eyes about pop out of her head. "Did he hurt you? I'll hurt him if he did princess!"
Elkie laughs. "What are you going to do Dorseti?"
"I'll take that sword and cut his man parts off."
Dipak makes a weird noise and stands up. "Remind me never to make you ladies mad."
We all start laughing.
The door opens and my mom comes in.
Dipak whispers "Round 2."
Elkie sits a plate on the desk. "I got us some fruit."
Mom crosses her arms and stares at Dipak. "Children."
He throws a grape in his mouth. "You are so much funner than the rest of them."
She smiles. "I'm also your queen and you will address me as such."
"Yes ma'am." He doesn't stop smiling.
"You must all learn to play nicely together. We do not know who Nadine will be mated to and yes Dipak, you are on the top of the list. I am not saying you shouldn't spend time together, but you need to be respectful" She looks at me. "of your chosen mate as well. Nothing physical will happen between you and any man until you feel that bond. So, respect always needs to be given towards everyone. Nadine, If you hurt one of them now and later get bonded to them, it will hurt the relationship. Do you both understand everything I have said?"
Dipak nods.
"But momma, he drugged me and I'm mad about that. I didn't do anything wrong with Dipak. We've been sword fighting for hours. Ask anyone here."
"What?... "
"We were sword fighting."
"Before that."
"I didn't do anything with Dipak?"
"Keep going."
"He drugged me?"
"Who drugged you, my baby?"
"Tre."
"No, you must be mistaken."
I get the crinkled order out of my apron and hand it to her.
She uncrinkles it and stares at it for a moment. "DIPAK SWORD." She holds out her hand.
"I don't"
"NOW!"
He hands it over.
We watch her fly out of the medical area.
Dorseti grabs some grapes. "Princess, I think you definitely won round 2."
