That night Meg dreamt of grey eyes, stormy and intimidating in their own beauty and also dazzling smiles.
She had never before felt this way for any guy but him.Why was he so different?
She was lost in a blissful sleep when obnoxiously loud knocks on her door woke her up
"Meg wake up!"Ellen on the other side of the door sounded frantic.
Grumbling Meg dragged herself out of bed, but when she opened the door ,one look at Ellen her sleep had vanished.
She wasn't in her pajamas but in black leather gear, the castellians wore to battle.
without a moment's delay, Meg quickly changed into her battle gear strapping a dagger around her waist. It was an Arden blade, blessed blade of the angels which every Castellian possessed.
The weapon aside from attacking also protected them against the fire, though not all Dragonairs could breath fire only those of high blood could.T he blades change their shape at their master's will, in Meg's case it was a sword unlike her mother who used a spear while Ellen used a whip with a metal spikes in the end.
Both the sisters and their mother were out of the house within minutes.
"Are there only females but no male among you?" A fierce looking man, fellow Castellian asked
"Yes, Ruther "Her mother replied.
Ruther's comment sounded a little sexist but it was still a novelty in the Castellian world for a female to fight in battle though they were given the same lethal training as men. Not very long ago the Castellians preferred only the men facing their enemies rather than women but for a while now the number of Castellians was declining so the females had no options but to stand and fight and Meg liked this better than sitting at home and cowering.
FACE THE ENEMY. FIGHT. KILL was her simple logic.
"The Dragonairs have attacked our kind in the woods," Ruther said as still new to town the Calve family wasn't as aware of the place and raced in the direction he guided.
Numerous tall thick trees and the cover of night would keep the battle hidden from the humans but as they went deeper the tremendous sounds of the battle became audible.
Together all of them threw themselves into the ongoing battle.
Meg slashed at the dragon which had cornered Alex, he was very young, the same age when Meg had killed her first dragon.T he way Alex was fighting it was clear that he was well trained and strong but was still an amateur. Meg had always felt fiercely protective of him like a sister would be for her little brother.
The dragon growled out in pain as she attacked and turned its attention towards her. She felt her heart race with the thrill of battle and delighted in the sensation that announced to each and every cell in her body that she was alive as she leaped at the Dragonair.
The air filled with screams and growls of both the Castellians and the Dragonairs.
"Take this you ugly lizard"Ellen yelled as she attacked , the wicked talon of the Dragonair came back at her again but she dodged with lightning fast speed and struck at the chest of the Dragonair and one of the spikes embedded itself inside the Dragonair's heart just as she had intended.
The Dragonair let out a mix of fury and moan as Ellen victoriously looked into its strangely human eyes set in dragons face. Disgusting .
And yanked on her whip viciously ripping the heart.
The Dragonairburst into a huge cloud of swirling black smoke and then there was nothing.
Just as the cloud of dark smoke vanished she caught sight of someone familiar fighting a dragon.Sebastian?
Before she could wrap her head around this new discovery another dragon attacked her making her let out a colorful curse.
Meg couldn't remember how many Dragonairs she had killed until now and how many times she had been attacked by them in return before they had died. She was aware that she was bleeding, there was blood on her face, her left arm and wounds on her legs too but she kept fighting every Dragonair in her way. The adrenaline of the battle was higher than the burn in her wounds infact, she couldn't even feel much of them.
She was fighting when out of the corner of her eye she saw her mother fighting off a giant black fire breathing dragon. Royal blood.
Meg's anger at the dragon in front of her was increasing by the second "Die" she snarled and tried again to stab it and finish it off but the dragon was fast. The swing of her sword which Meg was sure would rip its heat out merely made a gash on its chest making blood drip out of it but no serious damage.
The dragon's talon lashed out aiming to rip her entire upper body away into shreds ,Meg had swiftly moved out of its reach but it had managed to s***h open her stomach and she could feel herself bleeding but didn't dare take her eyes off the dragon .
After a long and terrible combat the dragon finally erupted into a dark smoke. She barely had time to catch her breath when she saw Alex beyond the fighting cluster of Dragonairs and Castellians run into the woods,"NO ! Alex don't !" she screamed but her voice drowned over the distance and the chaos around her .
She raced towards the direction Alex had run off to. To stop him.
It was a horrible thing to do,nothing less than suicidal to chase a Dragonair when you are alone in the middle of darkness and high tress underneath an empty sky.
The Dragonairs trick you. They lead you to an isolated place then burst out of sky, grab the body in their giant talons and rip it to bloody shreds . The sky was their domain, not a Castellan's and they knew it all too well.
But Meg never got to stop Alex by the time she killed the Dragonair which had lept at her from behind he was already gone.
Having no clue but determined to save him she kept running. She was desperate to find him before anything could happen to him.
Herself, she was now in the middle of the woods under the open sky, violating all the safety rules she knew since her training days in her urgency to find Alex when she sensed the presence of something around the huge boulders surrounding her. But it wasn't Alex.
She sensed it move from behind the cluster of giant boulders to the front it growled loud enough to let her know the position.
'The Dragonair isn't trying to be sneaky, no attacking from behind. Decent ?' Meg snorted as soon as the thought had crossed her mind. Dragonairs were all vicious bloodthirsty creatures that harm her kind.
Her warrior instincts kicked in as she tightened the grip on her sword, ready to attack and to kill.
The Dragonair lept out of the boulders, a huge grey dragon with wicked talons and.....
She froze, something she had never done in a battle before. It wasn't the dragon's huge wicked talons or it's enormous wings that froze her but the beautfiul stormy grey eyes.
"Roan" she chocked out her voice barely audible to her own ears.
For minutes the grey dragon was as motionless as her then it made a strange noise at the back of its throat and flew up into the sky and away.
Her eyes were wide with something beyond shock as they followed the huge winged body fly up and up into the sky until it vanished completely out of her sight. Suddenly she became aware of all the wounds she had received and blood dripping out of her body, Painful and terrible.
She felt as if the ground had been pulled from under her feet. She could no longer stand anymore as her knees buckled and she fell on the ground knees first a sharp pain piercing her body but it wasn't because of blood or wounds. It was much deeper and much painful.
