Chapter 7

Kaia Celene I woke up at a very unfamiliar room. I blinked my eyes a couple of times and looked around. This isn’t my room but then the memories of the past days came flooding in. I stood up from bed and went straight to the bathroom. I looked at myself in the mirror and saw Alexia’s necklace. She gave it to me a few years ago for in case we got separated. But now is not the right time to use this. I have to get out of here. ‘I think it’s best for us to stay for a while. The hunters are still looking for us, I can feel it.’ Leah’s right. No matter how much I hate it, I have to stay here for the time being. I can’t risk our safety including Alexia. I turned on the shower and started taking a bath. After a long bath I changed into a black crop top with a “badass” word on it and a denim shorts. I am not in the mood of putting on some make up so all I did was comb my hair and a bit of lip gloss. Right after I finished dressing up, there was a soft knock on the door. I know its Irene because of her scent. Slowly the door opened entering Irene. “Good morning. It’s a good thing you’re up. Alice asked me to tell you that she wants to go shopping with you.” I sighed in annoyance. Honestly, I don’t feel like going anywhere today but I have no choice. “Honestly Irene I hate the idea of going anywhere with that woman; I can sense something strange about her but yeah tell her I’ll go.” Irene nodded her head in response. “You’re right Kaia. I find it really strange that she’s being nice to you. Living here for almost fifteen years, Alice is everything but nice most especially to those she deemed inferior to her.” Irene said but I guess I was expecting that from Alice. I won’t let her do as she pleased. “Anyway breakfast is ready. Everyone’s in hall but they secluded you from………them.” She hesitated. That’s why I hate packs. They think highly of themselves but at the end of the day they’re still werewolves…..still dogs.  “It doesn’t really bother me Irene so it’s fine.” Irene gave me a sad smile as she shook her head. “I’ll be eating with you Kaia.” “Thank you-----“ “Hey sis. What’s taking you so long?” I almost held my breath as I was cut off by one of the most familiar people I ever met. His face turn into a frown as he took a sniff on the air. Slowly his head turned to my direction and recognition hit him. “Kaia.” his tone sounds doubtful probably not believing I was actually standing there. “Kade.” I said almost a whisper. Kade and I met four years ago when I saw him trying to drown himself because of the death of his fiancé. Katrina was not his mate but he loved her, and her death brought despair and loneliness to him. Kade’s eyes were full of happiness as he walked closer to me giving me a tight hug. I was surprised by his sudden embrace but I just let him do that just this once. “I missed you.” he whispered. I hesitantly put my arms around him and forced a smile. Irene was standing there surprised and speechless. He broke the hug and rested each of his hand on my shoulders. “What are you doing here? I was planning on visiting you tomorrow. It’s been six months K.” “I know.” I smiled at him. Kade was one of the closest friends I have. Even though I was a rogue he never treated me differently considering that a rogue killed his fiancé. That’s one of the many things I liked about him and maybe that’s why he became my boyfriend for two years. I wasn’t supposed to make him my boyfriend but he begged me to give it a try and we did. But I can’t keep on pretending that I’m happy. We can’t keep fooling ourselves. Even when he was begging me not to break up with him I still did. He’s my friend and I can’t cause him more pain than I already did. He still has a mate out there. Kade stood there in front of me until a certain growl caught our attention. “It seems you have returned Kade.” Ashton said but his eyes were fixed on me. “Yes. I already delivered the papers to the council.” Kade answered. “Also Ashton, I would like to rest for the day and spend some time with my girl?” Kade added as he put his arm around my shoulders giving me a wink. Again Ashton growled which brought us to our attention. “Get away from her.” Ashton growled. I glared at him but he ignored me. “What’s your problem Ashton?” Kade asked with a hint of annoyance in his voice. “Don’t make me repeat myself mutt.” Ashton grabbed my wrist pulling me behind him. Kade stepped closer to him while glaring at each other. “Don’t tell me she’s your mate Ashton.” Ashton’s face shows cockiness as he answered Kade, “Your right. She’s MY mate.” “Someone like you is not worthy to be Kaia’s mate.” again Ashton growled at Kade’s statement. I just stood there with a bored look on my face and when I turned to face Irene, she was standing there not sure what to react to the situation before her. “Irene, let’s go.” I grabbed her hand and pulled her away from there. I am in no mood to deal with their stupidity so I better just leave them; they’re not kids anymore. “Kaia.” “Woman.” They called in unison but I ignored them. Woman huh? That’s a very nice way to address someone. “How did you know my brother?” asked Irene as we walk to the dining hall. “You mean foster brother?” Irene was surprised as to how I know about her and Kade not being related. “How did you-----“ “Your scent is different from his so I assumed that you’re not related and to answer your first question, Kade is my ex.” She blinked her eyes a couple of times completely surprised to what she just learned. “Don’t ask about the details I’m in no mood for storytelling.” Irene did not bother to ask. As we arrived at the dining hall, all eyes were on me. I closed my eyes and sighed as I walked to the far most corner of the room. Tsk. These mutts are annoying. I just have to bear with it for a while because I am not definitely staying here long; most especially with my mate around.
