The driver didn't know the way to the Alpha's house, so he stopped and asked someone for directions. When he asked for the Alpha's house, the person gave him a weird look as if he were crazy.
"Alpha's house?" The man confirmed.
The driver nodded impatiently and said, "Yes, can you tell me quickly? We are late. The miss here has an appointment with him."
The man took a quick glance at Laurel and nearly reported them to the police for suspicious behavior.
Why would such a girl want to meet the Alpha? Many girls had come to visit the Alpha before, and they were undoubtedly prettier and had a better background. At least they were not so shabby that they had to ask for directions. There were designated personnel to take them directly to the Alpha.
Laurel's shabby appearance was enough to make the entire crimson moon laugh at her ambitious dreams.
The man still reported an address to him. The driver immediately drove the car. Laurel turned around as the man they asked for directions was left behind. She saw him staring back at the car and shaking his head with a mocking smile.
Already self-conscious, Laurel was already shaking. Both arms wrapped around her thin body, and she shivered in fear of what was to come. A weird tickling feeling spread from the base of her stomach to the top of her chest.
"What a loser!"
Laurel looked up at the cursing driver. The driver cursed the man who gave the address.
"What happened?" Laurel asked.
"He gave us the address of the Alpha's office! Not his house! Damnit!" The driver was already at his wits end.
Laurel was blank.
"His office?" Laurel lowered her chin to get a glimpse of the building.
It was different from the other high-rise building she saw on the way. It was a tall building, but definitely not as big as others. The entrance was also much simpler, but Laurel was not naive enough to think it lacked security. It should be the pack house...
By now, the driver was already done with it. He didn't wait for Laurel to finish admiring the building. With a harsh move, he opened the door on Laurel's side.
"Wha-"
The driver cut her off directly. "My job was to send you to the pack. I am done here. Go inside and ask where the Alpha is, and have him drive you home! I am going back!"
Laurel was then grabbed by the arm and pulled out of the car. She gripped the duffle bag tightly in her arm and stumbled onto the sidewalk. She barely managed to avoid crashing into the wall.
The car door closed with a sound, and he drove away as if he were running from the guards.
Laurel, in her shabby clothes and messy bun, stood outside Alpha Darius's office. Clueless and not knowing what to do, Laurel stood there for a while before making up her mind to go in.
It was a scary move because she didn't know if it was the right thing to do. Taking a deep breath, Laurel reached out to open the foggy glass door of the building.
When Laurel reached her hand out towards the door, she realized there was nothing to pull. That's when the glass door slid open from both sides, making way for Laurel to enter the building.
It was at this moment that Laurel truly found out that maybe she was really as stupid as Ashley said or that confusion had taken over her head.
Heat crept from the base of her neck all the way over to her cheeks.
There was no time to waste. Hardening her heart, she stepped into the building. The glass door slid close behind her, leaving Laurel in the building where people were walking around with serious expressions.
Her own clueless, wide eyes were completely out of place in the space where everyone knew what they were doing. With hesitant steps, Laurel made her way to the nearby desk, where a young woman spotted her and smiled at her.
"How may I help you?" The woman seemed to have a polite smile stuck to her face. Even if she had some personal opinions on Laurel's appearance, they didn't show on her face.
Laurel subconsciously squeezed the bag straps on her shoulder. Nervousness was the only active feeling in her body. Palpation was the least of her worries right now, as the most important thing was to say the right words.
"I am here to see Alpha Darius."
The politely smiling woman nodded and asked, "May I know your name and if you have an appointment?"
Laurel gulped, "I am Laurel. I don't have an appointment."
"May I know the purpose for the visit?"
Laurel stared at the woman, half astonished and half in admiration. How was she so calm? Laurel slowly took deep breaths to imitate the calmness, but it didn't work.
"I am from the Silver Moon Pack. Alpha Denis sent me to meet Alpha Darius."
"Is that all?" The woman was typing something on the desktop while talking. She looked up to see Laurel nodding repeatedly.
"Alright, give me a minute. You can take a seat in the lounge area. I will call you soon."
Laurel followed the way her hand pointed and found the lounge area. She walked over with small steps and grabbed a corner for herself on the sofa. There were others waiting on other sofas too. In her own little corner, Laurel squeezed herself until she was almost unnoticeable.
It was unknown how long it was going to take for her to get called. There were so many people waiting and Laurel was probably at the end of the line. Just thinking about waiting so long calmed her down the rapid beating of her heart.
Well, at least she managed to get inside the building and she won't have to face the scary Alpha immediately.
Approximately ten minutes into the waiting, Laurel could feel the nervousness fade away at snails speed and as it did, dizzy sleep washed over her like a thin layer of morning fog.
It was a natural bodily response on her part. Laurel was often in a stimulated state at home around Ana and Ashley. It was rare to be away from them. The waiting room was so peaceful that her body slowly slipped into resting mode. Something she desperately needed.
Before she knew it, Laurel's head tilted to one side and her eyes weighed heavily under the influence of sleep. With the duffle bag close to her chest, she fell asleep in the waiting lounge with an AC.
After an unknown amount of time, Laurel's body jolted under a foreign touch. A cold hand landed on her shoulder, sending her entire body into an alert mode.
Her eyes flew open and body flew up the sofa. She turned vigilantly towards the source of the touch, only to see the woman from the reception desk.
The polite smile was still as alive as ever.
"I am sorry for the long wait. Our Alpha is not available at the moment. Since you don't have prior appointment, it is not possible to meet with him right now."
Laurel was inexplicably disappointed. As much as she didn't want to meet Alpha Darius, she was more worried about what to do in this strange place. She didn't have anywhere else to go.
"Oh."
