Her One and Only

It Begins

Miles POV

Nyght meets me out on the patio with her little orange bong and the box of donuts.

Lumen growls hungrily in my chest.

"Forget the donuts, there's only one hole I want."

Gods, Lumen. What if she can hear you??

"Do you really think she'd mind?"

My cheeks get hot. Thankfully, Nyght is too distracted to notice.

"Ten more days, Goldie."

Nyght plants down beside me on the couch. Normally we sit on opposite couches out here, but since we have just the one box of donuts she's elected to sit next to me. I don't mind, obviously.

I lower my gaze to her neck, and the bite mark that is still there three days later. I still don't know how that happened, or if we really had the same dream.

I come back to earth and find her hand outstretched, passing me our shared lighter.

I give a single nod to show thanks, and hit my little green bong she bought for me.

We both sit and soak in the quiet of the night for a moment. Both coming down from the stress of the last few weeks.

It's been so easy sharing my home with Nyght. I was worried at first, I mean, I've lived on my own since I was ten. It was surely going to be an adjustment living with a woman like that. But, to my shock, it's been easier than living alone. She's very quickly become my best friend, and the highlight of my days.

"Do you think my dad is going to replace Alex as your stand in? I mean, because of the breakup and everything. He already didn't trust him, I'm sure a scorned Alex is even worse."

And then, like clockwork, Mr. Tsuki sends me a text.

"Incoming Message: Alpha Tsuki

Hello Miles, I hear things are going well so far. I know my Nyght ended things with Alex Wright and as you know he was just the "coach" to keep him busy. I fear he will now do more harm than good in his position, and will be appointing a more capable member in his place. I will have his training guide given to his replacement and have told them to reach out to you with any questions. Thank you again for keeping my daughter safe, and happy. We should meet again soon, to further discuss the situation and to better acquaint you with your new #2."

As much as this means I have even more work to do, I am glad to hear Alex is fully out of the picture. I was worried about any damage he could cause now that he has nothing to lose... But, Nyght's father is always on top of everything. He's a good man.

"Seems like your dad already has it handled." I show her the phone and smile.

She returns the grin, and we go back to peaceful silence.

It's been three weeks now. Since Nyght moved in with me, I mean.

The last few days she's been... Low. She's really been missing her family and Miya. Even someone as anti-social as her needs to talk to more than one person.

The new coach has been a vast improvement from the last as*hat. Not that it's hard to be better than he was, but this guy is good. Not just exceeding, but excelling. The Alpha really knows what he's doing.

The last time I met up with the guys I saw Alex off at the edge of the field. I know he's mad, and I know the other guys in the pack have been giving him hell about Nyght. You'd never guess it from talking to her, mainly because she's such a nerd, but she seems to be a pretty hot commodity around here. I think it has something to do with her being the daughter of the Alpha, and she has literally no s****l reputation. That's hard to come by in a small pack like this.

Not to mention, she's f*cking gorgeous.

Though, I would be lying if I said the idea of a man touching her does anything less than make my blood boil.

I think every day I spend with her my feelings for her get worse.

She needs to stop being so gods-damned loveable.

I look over and find her with her attention fixed on the TV.

We're watching some human movie about a werewolf in the 80s. Teen Wolf I think.

It's not bad, albeit extremely 80s.

To be honest I can't tell if she's actually watching it or if she's off in her own head somewhere. I think the last few weeks have been a lot of learning, and hardships, for her. I mean, female wolves are told their entire lives that they have one mate out there. Even with her parents, her moms each only have one mate. I can't imagine the fear she feels right now, and I can't express how deeply I wish to quell it. I'd spend my life with her in a second. She is so much fun. She's so smart, and kind, and funny. I worry for the day she moves on and decides to go live her heterosexual life without me.

I'm going to miss her so much.

Jeez, now I understand how her family feels...

She blinks a few times and shakes her head a little.

"Oh. Wow. I totally missed something. Maybe a few things, actually." she laughs weakly.

Her tone tugs at my heart. I want to make her feel better.

"Yeah? Off in space, are we?"

She nods.

"Hey, you know how you said Miya wanted to come visit? I have to go to the pack training grounds tomorrow to discuss things with your dad... What if I asked him about a few people coming out to visit you?"

I see the light return to her eyes before I even finish my sentence.

"Please?" she pleads.

I can't help but give her an empathetic smile.

I'd do anything to help her feel better.

I feel oddly nervous approaching the Alpha. We've been in communication so much since I was put on Nyght duty, but this is the first time I've asked him for anything since becoming captain. I guess it is a favor for Nyght, but I know he has a lot going on already.

My plan currently is to ask if her mothers, Aries, and Miya can come for a visit. Two or three days to make it realistic. And I'll ask him to drop them off at the airport for realism, and I'll pick them back up to bring them here.

As I'm standing in the field, thinking over my proposition, Alpha Tsuki comes up behind me and places his hand on my shoulder.

"It's good to see you again, Miles Bellator." he smiles.

"I'm just as glad to see you too! And hopefully for good reasons?"

Like maybe this beautiful girl isn't in life threatening danger?

His smiles fades slightly.

"Unfortunately, no. I fear the sightings have only grown worse." his hand falls to his side.

"I think we may have intruders in our pack. There's just no reason for these rogues to have been where they were spotted. It does not make any sense to me."

I nod.

"I'm ultimately glad she rejected Alex, but it would be nice if she was at least mated. It is so dangerous for her to be out without a mark. Especially so close to her first heat. It's all just so... Worriesome."

I can see the exhaustion on his face. I know this man very well, and I know he would go to any and all lengths to protect his children. It's one of the things I respect most about him.

"I'm still keeping a very close and protective eye on Nyght, Sir." I pause, gathering the right words, and the courage to say them. "Uhm, would you be able to tell me the signs of her going into heat? It feels like such an invasive question but I need to know so I can keep her indoors and away from any other wolves. I know that leaves female wolves in such a vulnerable state."

He chuckles for a moment. "You're a good kid. Yes, a few weeks before it begins she will have very... Vivid dreams. As it draws nearer, she will experience a drop in mood. At that point you are probably three to four weeks out. The next sign will be the... The.."

He's struggling to find the words, he's visibly nervous.

"She's going to get so hot for me."

Oh my gods. Lumen, please.

"She's going to become very... Excited. I think that is the only word I can bring myself to say in this moment."

I feel my face grow warmer.

"Yes sir. I understand."

I clear my throat. "Uhm, in relation to that, Nyght has been a bit down lately. She's been saying she really misses family and Miya. Do you think it'd be possible for a small visit? I've devised a plan." I add a confident smile for good measure.

He returns my smile and nods for me to continue.

"I thought maybe just her moms, Aries, and Miya could come for a visit. To aid in the illusion that she is in Japan I thought maybe you or your Delta could drop them off at their airport and I could bring them back to my house. It would be close quarters for a couple of days but I don't think anyone would mind if it meant they got to see Nyght."

His smile grows. "Yes, that could work. You are very clever, Miles. I'm glad I gave you this job. You've made me proud."

I feel a warmth in my chest I only know as love.

I love this man. I love him like he was my own father.

To be honest, he is the closest thing to a father I have ever had. From the day he found me, to this conversation, I have never felt anything but love and compassion from him. Nyght is lucky.

His hand finds it's way back to my shoulder, and he gives it a squeeze.

"I will call you, no texting for this I want to be sure it's very secretive when the day comes for you to pick up my family. I will have my Delta drop them off. I do not feel safe leaving my pack in these times. I am already nervous to send off the women I love and my eldest son. But, seeing as how you've kept Nyght so safe.. I think we'll be okay." He smiles and turns.

"You will hear from me soon, Captain Bellator."

It feels so good to hear those words.
