Her One and Only

After Party

Before I can even process what’s happening I’m scrambling out the door and to the restaurant. I swear to gods I’ve never moved faster in my life. I manage to walk through the door at 8:35, just in time to hear my father utter “So you two are mates?”

Are you f*****g kidding me?

“Hi everyone! So sorry I’m so late.” I pause and stare at Alex, pure fury behind my eyes. “What have I missed?” I say through gritted teeth.

“Alex here just filled us in. I take it that’s why we’re gathered here today?” Aries blurts.

I clench my fists and turn to Alex. “I thought we agreed to wait until we could both be here?” I nearly sneer.

His smile drops. “I had no choice, everyone was so confused in your absence I-”

“You could’ve waited, but anyways. Now that the news has been released, yes. I have found my mate. Alex and I are destined to be together,” I say with a blank expression.

My family stares back at me, clearly trying to tell if this is some wild joke or not.

I sort of wish it was.

After a few moments of silence my father speaks;

“Well, congratulations, you two. I’m sure you’ll be very happy once your minds are a bit clearer.”

“Oh I am very happy, Alpha” Alex interrupts.

My father turns to look at him, studies his face for a moment, and turns back to me.

“Would you still like to have dinner all together, my dearest daughter?”

“I suppose it is no longer necessary, but it was lovely to see all of your bright and shining faces together...again.” I laugh awkwardly. My father stands up and hugs me, and everyone follows after, leaving just me and Alex.

“So, I guess you’re not the listening type,” I state, sipping a glass of red wine from the table.

He pauses for a moment, scrambling to put together a defense for himself. “I couldn’t just sit there with your family when you were nowhere to be found!”

Bullshit.

“You easily could have told them I would be there shortly. My family is extremely understanding and would have taken your word for it. I told you I wanted to tell them. This is b*llshit, Alex.”

“I don’t know what you want to hear from me, Nyght. They took it just fine, and now we can publicly be together.” he states proudly.

The words hit me like a brick wall. Why is the thought of being with him so strange to me? Is it just because I’ve never been with someone?

“Hell of a way to start off a life-long relationship.” I snicker and take a big sip of wine.

We sit together and talk for an hour or so and decide to part ways and head home.

I’m taking my leisurely stroll home, still pissed as ever, when my phone rings.

“Incoming Call: Miles Bellator”

Why is she calling me?

“Hello?” I answer.

“Hey, sorry to bug you. I had a weird feeling and decided to check on you... Are you okay?”

I can tell she’s nervous just by the tone of her voice.

“I’m fine. Just finished an aggravating meal, or should I say bottle of wine, with my mate. He told my family without me, because I was a half hour late. Mine you, he didn’t send me a single text. Utter b*llshit,” the word of the day apparently...

I can hear her stifling a laugh. “Glad to hear you’re alright, Tsuki.”

My anger dissipates. “What are you doing?” I ask.

“I’m just chilling at home. Why-”

“Where do you live? In the pack house? I’m coming over.”

“No, I have my own house a bit outside of town. Are you walking? Oh my gods, Nyght, send me your location, and I’ll pick you up. Don’t you dare hang up.”

Her words and actions catch me off guard, but I oblige and send my location.

“Good, now stay put” she commands.

“I’ll do exactly what I want, thank you.” I protest and move a single step.

“You will stay put. You’re about 10 minutes from me, are you somewhere you can go inside? I don’t want you standing on the side of the road at 10PM.”

“Miles I’m a whole werewolf.”

“Yeah and so is everyone else in this town, that’s not exactly a means of protection.”

I open my mouth to protest but I realize she’s right and I accept defeat.

“Doesn’t look like anywhere is open. I’ll be okay until you get here.”

We made small talk until her truck pulled up. The drive to her house flew by, and so did the first few hours of hanging out.

“Come on you’ve seriously never kissed a girl?” she asks.

“No, I haven’t kissed anyone” I admit. “Let alone a girl.”

She looks taken aback. “You’ve never had your first kiss?” she nearly yells.

“Alex is going to be your first kiss?”

Oh god oh f*ck I didn’t even think about it like that!!

“I guess so.” I shrug.

She studies my face for a moment.

“Do you not want him to be?”

“I never said that! He’s my mate, 'yanno. I guess it’s okay to have your mate as your first kiss.. It would’ve been cool to have the chance to kiss someone else though.”

“Hey I’m right here! Someone else!” she points to herself.

“You’re a girl!” I laugh. “I feel like that doesn’t count.”

She thinks for a second. “Even better, you won’t have to feel guilty about it.”

I sit and try to think of an argument and fail. Why is it so hard to say no to her? I can feel myself begging to do everything she says. It’s almost like my soul yearns to please her. Do I just look up to her? She’s an admirable person…

“I guess you have a point…”

“Yeah!!” she yells.

“So, how do I do this? What do I do with my hands?”

She laughs, seemingly amused by my lack of experience.

“Here.” She takes my hands and places one on her cheek and the other on her waist.

Her body is strong, but it has softness to it. You can tell she could throw you, but she would be comfy to lay on.

“See? Not so hard so far.”

I remain speechless.

She places her own hands on either side of my face and smiles at me, leans in, and our lips touch.

I can feel my insides roaring. Every molecule in my being is begging for this to last an eternity. Years fly by in seconds, her eyes closed in front of mine.

Then, they open.

Before I know it she’s pulled away and staring at me.

How long was that?

I shake my head and return back to earth. Suddenly, as fast as she disappeared, my wolf is back, and she’s losing her f*****g mind.

Miles laughs. “You alright, Tsuki?”

I most certainly am not.

“Yeah I’m fine.” I laugh.

Is every kiss like that? How do people do it so nonchalantly?

“You look a little sick, do you want to stay here tonight? I can sleep on the couch, you can take my bed.” she offers.

I think for a second. I’m definitely a little drunk, and I can’t walk home at this hour, and I definitely don’t want to make her drive me home…

“I can sleep on the couch, Bellator. You can sleep in your own bed.” I laugh.

She laughs. “There is no way I am letting the alpha’s daughter sleep on the couch. Go on, let me know if you need anything. I have some spare clothes that are about your size in the bottom drawer.”

I take this as she’s not here to argue with me, and accept my fate. I walk in, close the door and breathe.

My gods her house smells fantastic.

You wouldn’t expect such a masculine, hardy woman to smell so good, but she does. She smells the way a warm fire feels. Her presence reminds me of toasted marshmallows and freshly brewed tea.

I pull some clothes out and lay down.

Before I know it I find myself back in a familiar forest, this time Noctis is waiting for me.

“Good evening, Nyght Tsuki. I am ready to answer questions, but ask carefully.”

I take a slow breath.

“Have we found our mate?” I blurt out.

“Yes.”

Her answer hits me like a semi truck.

Why am I so disappointed?

“So why do I feel so weird about him?”

“Do you feel strangely about him, or about our mate?”

Before I have a chance to respond I awaken to the sun in my eyes.
