A whole new normal

Alpha Roman’s POV

It has been three weeks since we arrived back, the shock of losing my friend has not fully sunk in yet.

I am struggling with a secret Jackson entrusted me with a long time ago. I know he wanted to keep Briar away from the truth until she turned 18. With her wolf beside her she will be strong enough to carry the burden she was given on the day she was born, but everything has now changed, the strength she has shown since the day of the attack has been astonishing. Maybe she should know and join the search for answers her father and I have been on for the last 15 years.

FLASHBACK

I remember the night she was born. Every year Blue Snow celebrates the march full moon, known as the snow moon. Above all others, legend says that blue snow would cover the land and rejuvenate the power of the people. This would be my first visit with my sons Xavier, who was 3 years old and little Jacob just 2 months old. The pack looked stunning, a thick layer of snow covered the ground, the enchanted forest seemed even more magical.

Jackson’s booming voice seemed to echo from every corner of the pack, “you are just in time, the bonfire is lit and the pigs are roasting. Let’s get you settled and we can party the night away. Beth is having a bit of a lie down, the baby is not letting her sleep, but she will be down in a while,

A few hours later and the sun was setting, the sky had been completely clear all afternoon. There was barely a cloud in the sky, but as soon as the moon was about to rise, the sky changed, clouds blocked out the stars and the sky behind shimmered with greens, reds and blues, all of nature seemed to freeze and pack members seemed to hold their breath, like they were waiting for something to happen. There was a sudden terrifying scream, and I saw my mate running towards us, “the baby is coming”. For the next two hours, everyone and everything stood still until the sound of a baby’s cry rang out, the clouds disappeared immediately, showing the biggest moon I had ever seen. It was completely blue, the snow on the ground reflected the light of the moon and the whole pack glowed. The oracle ran out of the pack house and stood in the clearing with her arms stretched up to the sky." Thank you my lord and ladies, our time has come again, Luna Seren's sacrifice will not be in vain”. She drops to her knees crying for joy.

Snowflakes started to fall and I swear they were glowing blue.

PRESENT DAY

I am sitting in my office with the oracle. No one knows how old she is, but she has not aged in the 25 years I have known her. Jackson trusted this woman with his life, so now that I have taken his role, his destiny, I will do the same. “Do you think we should tell her what we know?” She gave me a strange smile “You mean tell them, don’t you? Xavier’s part in this will be almost as big as Briars.” I shook my head wryly, Xavier had told me a few weeks ago that his wolf thinks that Briar is his mate. He was so confused. I told him that although it is rare an Alpha can sense his mate even if she is not of age, it is his decision to tell her or wait for her to feel the bond for herself when she turns 18. In the meantime, he will feel an overwhelming need to protect her. I look at the oracle and sigh,”how the hell did you know?” “ My dear boy, I knew when she was born that they belonged together, they will be legendary,” she smiles.

We both glance at the ancient books and the boxes that I brought from Jackson’s secret office, “I have always thought she should know, it’s her destiny, and she may find clues that we cannot, so before Xavier leaves for Alpha training next week. We will tell them everything”. In the meantime, we need somewhere safe to keep all of the relics. She smirks, closes her eyes for a second, then points at a tapestry on my wall, “the door is behind there.” I got up and pulled back the tapestry to see a door, I push it open and found a room that cannot be there. This wall in my office is an outside wall. I grin. I f*****g love magic.

We spend the afternoon putting everything in the room. This will be our secret base. The search needs to heat up because I have a feeling that whoever attacked Blue Moon did not get what they came for.
