[Chapter 7: Vampire]
•>>———∘◦❁◦∘———(3rd Person's POV)
'I can't believe I'm finally here!!' Elora thought as she stuck her head out the huge window rather dangerously.
"Woowww!!" She exclaimed at the beautiful scenery outside.
She's currently outside her bedroom, hands on the windowsill as she hoisted herself upwards to see the outside better. She had initially planned to go explore the academy but got distracted when she saw the flowery scenery outside the window. Other girls that were around the hallway looked at her weirdly, some with mocking expressions, while others were that of worry.
'How inappropriate, tsk tsk tsk.'
'I bet she's a commoner...'
Others were already spreading rumors around her. By now, almost everyone in the girls dormitory knows of a transfer barbaric student. She was so out of place by the way she acts but she couldn't care less.
She can feel the others staring at her right at this moment, but she paid them no mind.
When she felt satisfied with admiring the view she whipped around, startling others, and walking away.
'This is so awkward. Everyone's literally gawking at me!! Thank goodness they don't know I'm the princess... yet, at least.' She thought and as if on cue someone said: "Princess??"
Her eyes widened slightly but she then thought that she wasn't the only princess since the princess of Sequoia also studied there so she shrugged it off. But on the last second she recognized who the voice was so she dashed away, but not before mumbling, "Oh s**t!"
Upon turning the corner, she was greeted with a handful of ladies but that wasn't enough to stop her nor make her feel intimidated. She dashed through the crowd, mumbling incoherent apologies to the ones she bumped as she squeezed her way through.
"Hey! Wait a minute!!" Someone yelled but instead of stopping, that only encouraged her to run faster.
When she turned the corner, she decided to go to the door that was right next to her. As soon as she got inside she realized she was in the bathroom. It was a good thing that no one was there though.
after locking it, she pressed her ear against the door to hear what was going on outside. She then heard heavy stomping footsteps pass by her so she held her breath; even though she knew it was impossible to hear your breathing from outside, she was still cautious since she didn't know if the girl had hearing powers or something.
"Where'd she go?" She heard when the girl passed by the bathroom, along with the fading sound of running footsteps.
She breathed a sigh of relief as she slid down the door. Due to nervousness, her knees gave out.
'I can't believe I'm almost closed to meeting again with that loud girl, Antonella. Uggh... even though I'm not that scared to meet my future murderers anymore, I still don't want anyone to know I'm the princess!! And her loud mouth isn't helping at all!'
"I should definitely avoid her at all cost." She mumbled.
"What are you doing here?!" Her eyes widened as she noticed a boy, with white hair and blue eyes, she then sprung to her feet as quick as lightning, positioning herself with her arms spread in a karate stance. The boy only looked at her nonchalantly with raised eyebrows but nonetheless intrigued expression.
"What do you mean what am I doing here?! What are YOU doing here?!! This is the girls bathroom!!" She exclaimed but the boy looked at her with furrowed brows.
"Did you even look around you?!" She faltered in her stance to look around and that's where she noticed that there were bowls on the wall, the one where guys have to pee while standing.
Her mouth formed an 'o' as she started backing away from embarrassment.
"Oh.. well, you see someone was chasing me... and yeah. Hehe..." She chuckled awkwardly.
"How come you didn't notice those big thi—" The guy was cut short when Elora gasped loudly while covering her mouth.
"What? What is it?? You know what, never mind, just get out of—" Again he was cut short when Elora shrieked loudly making him wince.
"A VAMPIRE?!!!!!"
"A vamp-what?!" He asked incredulously with furrowed brows.
'Oh! I forgot that they don't use mythical words in Earth for beasts here! I forgot...'
"Uh-- I meant fanged-beast. You're a fanged-beast?!" Elora asked with wide eyes.
Suddenly, The guy's expression changed from being nonchalant to cold. He suddenly had his guard up but Elora didn't seem to notice this. She was still mesmerized by the fact that she was seeing an actual vampire, or better yet, a fanged-beast.
"Yeah. What's it to you?!" The guy sneered but Elora's next words shocked him to the core that he almost stumbled back.
"THAT'S SO COOL!!!" Elora exclaimed with twinkling eyes.
"Cool?!" The guy asked with a baffled expression. He didn't even noticed when Elora had gotten so close so he stumbled back lightly, thankfully he caught his footing and stepped back to distance himself away from Elora.
He suddenly got nervous. They were in the men's comfort room, a guy and a girl, and if a person suddenly comes in of course it was bound that they'd get some misunderstanding on their head.
"Oh sorry, I just got excited." Elora chuckled and stepped back a little and then resuming to stare at the guy.
"I've never seen a vamp--er a fanged-beast before! You know, living in seclusion in the pal-- I mean my home because of my strict father, I rarely get to see any beasts. I only ever read them on books and I think that they're so cool!! Even the knigh-- the maids in our home doesn't have any beasts in them. Oh sorry, I'm blabbering now aren't I??" Elora laughed lightly at the guy's confused face.
"Anyways! Let's be friends. I really, really, REALLY wanna have a vampire-- I mean a fanged-beast friend!!" She said but when the guy made no indication to talk she continued talking.
"My name's Ella, what's yours??" She smiled while holding her hand out. The guy finally snapped out of his thoughts and accepted Elora's outstretched hand with slight hesitation.
"Uh.. Vandryk." He answered curtly.
'Vandryk? I don't remember anyone in the story named Vandryk, so I guess this is good...'
"Ok! I'll call you Vamp then!!" Vandryk stopped admiring Elora from up close and instead looked at Elora's retreating figure with furrowed brows.
"Where in my name did you get Vamp from?!!" Vandryk asked incredulously.
"Hehe... bye Vamp! We're bound to bump into each other so see you around~" Elora winked and finally got out of the locked bathroom.
'So it was locked...' He thought to himself.
He washed his face using his hands and looked at the mirror.
'Is she really serious? She'd want to befriend a lowly beast like me??' He thought sighing.
'What an interestingly weird girl....'
'Ella huh?... Why do I get the feeling that that's not her real name...' He pondered, chuckling while shaking his head.
"That's stupid." He said to himself.
"Aggh! I'm suddenly hungry." He groaned, finally exiting the bathroom to go back to his room.
He had planned to stay there and hide from the people bothering him. Just thinking about those makes him want to kill them, he initially thought that Ella was one of 'those' but he thought wrong. At least for now.
You know, being a beast leaves you to the bottom of the spectrum. Beasts have been in hiding back in the early 100s since people either killed them or trafficked them as slaves. It was a though life back in the days, and he had learned from his father to never trust other species, especially humans. They were the most that did harm to their species after all.
Fanged-beasts are a little fortunate since there's no indication to tell that their beasts except for their canines. That's why Elora was shocked when those tiny incisors peeked through when Vandryk had talked. Vampires aren't real in her own world after all, so seeing one really left her agape.
It also shocked Vandryk that a human as her would find a beast cool. Even though 100s of years have passed and beasts are treated somewhat fairly now, they are still mistreated and lots of bullying still occurs.
Vampires are still the highest among the other beasts though, but since he's a half fanged-beast people aren't scared as much to him. Which he really hated. But even so, he never regretted having a human mother. Even though he never once seen her in real life, the fact that a human actually had the guts to fall for a beast like his father brought a sense of hope to him. Hope that maybe someday all people would be like his mother too.
And just a few moments ago, he might have had met the very first one.
He's mother died from birth complications. Since she was a human, her body didn't handle giving birth to a half-beast, that's why he blames himself for his mother's death most of the time. And those times are when he misses his mother and would very much like to see her.
"Oh.. look who finally showed up." He was cut from his trail of thoughts when he heard a familiar voice say.
His eyes widened when he noticed that he was inside his room and 'those people' that were bothering him earlier are all here right now.
'What? But I locked my door...' His eyes trailed behind him and to the now broken doorknob and he breathed out a sigh of exasperation. There were two lackeys guarding the door and he couldn't stop the oncoming eye-roll.
'Uggh, s**t. I won't be able to fight them properly since I'm really hungry right now.' He groaned inwardly, his eyes slowly trailing around to his cabinet filled with packed animal bloods.
"Oh, where is our dear fanged-beast looking right now~" His worst tormentor said in a sing-sang tone.
"Looking for this??" He looked back and his eyes widened when he saw all of his packed bloods in their hands.
"Uggh, fuck..." He mumbled with his hands on his face.
"What do you want Louise???" He groaned while tapping his feet with crossed-arms.
"Oh you know exactly what I want!" Louise grinned.
"Get 'im boys." And with that everyone charged at him. He fought back at first but soon hunger got the best of him and he collapsed.
He didn't know why Louise always did this to him. What happened between their father was a long time ago, but even so, he couldn't bother telling his father about this bullying. He didn't want to trouble his father anymore. He already has a lot on his plate, and besides he can handle this on his own. It was Louise who didn't fought fair, he always have his lackeys around so he haven't got the chance to knock him down yet.
But soon, he will...
After a few minutes of beatings they were finally done so he tried standing up despite his aching limbs. One of Louise's lackeys named Tisha noticed this, so she pushed him down with a grin but instead of knocking him down to the ground, she had successfully pushed him out of the window instead.
"Fuck..." He whispered as he felt himself slowly falling from the second floor.
She gasped not quite expecting him to stumble back so far away.
"Oh s**t! Why'd you push him Tisha?! f**k! Never mind, let's get out of here. No one's gonna know s**t anyways." Louise turned back and walked away casually with his lackeys trailing behind.
"You really done it now Louie!!" His friend, Tristan, said with a laugh. He too laughed and when he spotted a familiar someone, he smiled widely and went towards that person.
"Alistair my man!!" He exclaimed with his hands held up for a high five. Alistair looked up and smiled when he spotted him as well.
"I'm heading to the auditorium right now with my new friends. Wanna come with us?" He smiled but Louise politely declined.
"No man, that stuff's for the transfers. Don't wanna have to hear it all over again right?" Louise and his friends chuckled and Alistair just chuckled along with them.
"I guess man." Alistair said, "We're off." He continued and waved them off.
"Man.. we really hit the jackpot with the neighboring prince." Roland whispered once they were out of earshot. Louise only grinned and nodded in agreement.
Forget the prince, he was interested about the princess. He had heard some not so famous rumors, but nonetheless bad rumors, about her and he couldn't wait to have her be on his team as well.
'Oh I'm already getting excited!'
"Uggh.." Vandryk groaned while slipping in and out of consciousness.
As soon as he hit the ground, he was unconscious for about 5 minutes. When he finally woke up though, he slid himself towards the wall to lay his back there.
His head was throbbing and even though his wounds heals really quickly than normal people, this time wasn't really working. Not only is he hungry, but he had been roughed up pretty bad as well. And him falling from the second floor wasn't quite helping either.
'If only I were a full-blooded fanged-beast then I would've been able to transform. Uggh..' He thought with yet another groan.
"Whoah! Vamp, I did say we were bound to bump into each other, but I didn't say this fast though!" Elora said but when he noticed the situation Vandryk was in, her eyes widened and she quickly rushed by his side.
"Oh my gosh! What happened to you?! Oh never mind, you probably have no strength to talk right? Ugh.. what should I do??" Elora looked around frantically as if she'd find the solution on her surroundings.
"Blood.." Was the only thing Vandryk could get out, his eyes switching from blue to red.
"That's right! You're a vampire after all, of course you'd need blood..!" Elora mumbled subconsciously, pondering deep in thought.
"Here!" She gathered her platinum-blonde her to the side and expose her neck for Vandryk to drink. Vandryk only widened his eyes.
"Are you crazy woman?! Don't you know--"
"Oh! That's right!! You'd be linked to me... sorry, forgot about that hehe..." She stood up and fixed her hair back in place.
"Wait here okay?" She then ran off leaving a confused yet baffled Vandryk behind.
'How'd she know about the link?? I've never once met anyone of my age to know about that, especially a human! Usually they'd skip that part, or don't even read anything regarding the beasts at all!!' He was getting more and more intrigued about Ella at that point that he forgot about his pains for a second.
Elora ran quickly towards the lunchroom to buy packed blood. Everyone was looking at her on the way since she was running really fast, and no one is suppose to run around the halls since it was part of the school rules but she didn't know about that since she was supposed to attend the meeting on the auditorium for transfer students but she didn't attend, or rather, she forgot.
After buying the needed blood she dashed away but not before hitting one of the walking students.
"Hey! Watch where you're going!!" One of the student council committee members, a guy with purple hair and black eyes, shouted but Elora was far too distracted to notice this.
"That brat!--"
"Stop it Alfonse. I'm too tired to deal with this right now." The man with black hair, and is the president of the student council, stopped Alfonse from going after Elora.
"But she's breaking one very important rule right now!!" Alfonse argued but when the black guy gave him a glare, he stopped.
"I'm tired, I need to rest. Let's just handle her sometime. We're bound to bump into each other again if she's that careless." The black haired man sighed and continued walking towards his destination but not before stopping when he stepped into something.
He looked down and saw the Aeanthra's family crest. Each and every single one of the royalties has a crest that resembled their status of being a royal, and also a resemblance to know from what kingdom they're from. He couldn't help the amused grin that formed on his lips.
"Oh? How interesting.." He mumbled.
"What? What is it??" Alfonse trailed off with furrowed brows as he tried peeking over the president's shoulder.
"Its nothing." The black haired man uttered while slipping the royalty's crest on the pocket of his blazer. He had a feeling he shouldn't say anything to his assistant considering his noisy mouth so he decided to just keep it to himself for the meantime.
"Just saw an interesting dirt." He smirked as he started walking away, the vice president stared at him with furrowed brows for a while but eventually followed after him.
Elora rushed back to Vandryk and handed him three full packs of blood. Vandryk snatched it quickly from her hand and downed the first pack in seconds. After a few minutes, he had finished drinking the three packs and his wound are finally starting to heal.
"Why are you doing this??" He asked and fixed his position on the wall more comfortably. He figured that its not just some simple coincidence that Ella would be here right now after having to meet her just a few minutes earlier. It's just too much to be a coincidence therefore making him think that Ella had been following him.
'There must be a catch.' He thought. After all of the people that he met, he didn't want to believe that there'd be someone as kind as Ella right now that's not coming close to him to take advantage of him. Its far too far-fetched.
But Elora's confused looks is giving him second thoughts right now.
"What do you mean?"
"What do you want, is what I mean." He said while closing his eyes. He didn't want to see Elora's face because if he did, then he might really believe that Elora's actions are real and she really didn't have anything she want from him.
But its just not possible that there'd be someone like that. He refuses to believe it.
After all those years of being mistreated, this was just far too unreal for him to believe.
"I don't want anything! I just really, really, REALLY want to be your friend!!" Elora sincerely said making Vandryk open his eyes to look at her suspiciously.
"Cross my heart! Hope to die!!" She added, crossing her heart with her index-finger, making Vandryk look at her with a baffled expression now.
"Why would you want yourself to die?!!" He exclaimed with wide eyes making Elora widen her eyes along with him.
"Ugh. I forgot you didn't have that here..." She mumbled still very audible for Vandryk to here.
"What??"
"Its not literal, it's a figure of speech! When I say 'cross my heart, hope to die' it only means that I'm crossing my heart as a truce of it being true. It will and will stay as the truth until the day I die." She explained but when Vandryk still looked at her with a confused expression she closed her eyes and groaned.
"Ugh! Never mind, why am I even explaining it to you?!" She said in exasperation.
"I don't know, why ask me?" Vandryk said with one eyebrow raised.
"I'm not talking to you! I'm talking to-- you know what? Never mind! Uggh!! Just--get up!" She sighed in exasperation making Vandryk laugh.
"So are you gonna get up or are you gonna get up?" She said after Vandryk finished his fit of laughter.
"There's not much of an option lady." Vandryk said in amusement making Elora roll her eyes.
"That's because there isn't." She said helping Vandryk up to his feet and assisting him by placing one of his arm on her shoulder.
"You know I can walk fine now right?" Vandryk muttered when his arm was now successfully placed on Elora's shoulder.
"Don't care. I don't want you collapsing on me, and me having to run all the way back to the cafeteria just to buy packed blood for you." Elora ranted.
"You do know we're not allowed to run around the halls right? That's part of the school rules." Vandryk pointed out.
"Who cares! Besides, it's an emergency. Would you prefer yourself dying just so I'd have full marks on my grades??" Elora scoffed.
"That's presumptuous." Elora only rolled her eyes, huffing when Vandryk leaned his full weight on her.
"Very well then, I'm taking advantage of this. Don't come around changing your mind if you're weak to handle me." Vandryk smirked seeing Elora struggle.
"I won't. Don't think I'm some weak girl!" Elora huffed and started walking.
Vandryk still didn't fully believe that Elora's actions were real, so he decided to test her limits. See whether she'd give up or not and finally come out about her real intention.
'Sounds like a good plan'
