[Chapter 15: Harmless Pranks??]
•>>———∘◦❁◦∘———(Elora / Brianna)
'Elora...'
'Elora.....'
'Elora.......'
What's that voice in my head??
It's getting more distant and distant.
It sounds unfamiliar but also strangely familiar. Does that make any sense?
I felt my head feel lighter and I opened my eyes only to notice that I was yet again in another unfamiliar room. My eyes then trailed off to the figure standing beside the bed I was laying on and my brows slightly furrowed upon seeing Elijah.
"Huh? What happened..?" I asked, surprised by the grogginess of my own voice as I tried sitting up.
"Oh, uh.. don't sit up! You have just woken up." Elijah said in a hurried tone and I looked up to him and examined his face. Why is he suddenly super nice to me? We didn't have this kind of relationship before?
Elijah, probably embarrassed by my intense stare, turned his head and looked away. But I was still able to see his reddened ears despite him turning his head to hide his cheeks. How adorable.
"Anyways, what happened?" I asked again as I began recalling the events that led me in this predicament, or in other words, that led me to the infirmary; a fancier word for the clinic.
"I don't exactly know since I only heard about your absence from Alfonse and this is the first time I visited you." He explained as I slowly started to remember the fight that took place. Ugh, those damn brats. Thank goodness that light brown braided-haired girl stepped in. If it wasn't for her then we would've been in deep trouble.
"How long was I asleep anyway? That is if you know."
"5 days." Were his curt reply and my eyes widened at that.
"FIVE DAYS?!!" I screamed.
"Keep your voice down." I heard the nurse's voice outside the curtains surrounding us, telling me to keep quiet.
"Sorry.. Anyways, why did I sleep for 5 days? I wasn't even beaten up that bad." I muttered to myself but Elijah's reaction shocked me to my very core.
"YOU WERE BEATEN UP?!!" He screamed.
"I SAID SHUSH!" The nurse yelled angrily.
"My apologies... What do you mean you were beaten up?! I didn't hear anything about that??" Elijah said with a dark look forming on his face.
"Oh, stop overreacting! I worded it wrong, I wasn't beaten up. Just got punched on the stomach--"
"YOU WERE PUNCHED IN THE STOMACH?!!"
"I hear yelling one more time and I'll KICK YOU OUT!!"
We were quiet for a few seconds before we finally decided to keep talking in a whispered tone.
"It wasn't that bad. Besides, Vandryk got the worst beatings so it's not that big of a deal." I shrugged.
"Vandryk, you mean that vampire guy with the white ashy hair?" He asked and I furrowed my brows, curious as to why he knows him.
"Yeah.." I slowly spoke, "How do you know him though? I don't ever see you two around each other."
"Well, someone had already reported a bullying case involving him. Probably like twice or thrice." He said and my face hardened at the mention of those bastards.
"How come you didn't do anything?!!" I asked in an angry tone and he raised both his arms in shock.
"Whoah! Calm down. We did something. The bullies were taken to the principal's office and got counseled. The reporting stopped so we assumed that he was doing fine and well... wait, were they the ones that fought with you??" He asked but my mind was elsewhere.
The reporting stopped after a while but the bullying didn't stop. This means that they probably did something to those who filed the report and made it so that others wouldn't mind them as they t*****e Vandryk.
How dare those guys!
I'm gonna beat them up!!!
"Hey, it's okay." Elijah's voice broke me out of my trance and I unclenched my hand and released a breath, "Don't worry, I'll try and do something about them."
I released a heavy sigh and after a few minutes of silence, I finally decided to stand up.
"Hey--" Elijah was about to stop me but I sent him a glare which shut him up.
I really don't want to argue with him right now. Besides, I slept for FIVE WHOLE DAYS. I need to catch up with my studies. Not like I'll do it though hehe.
Truth be told, I did enjoy reading. But just the thought of me studying the same old boring lectures I've already finished studying in my past life aggravates me to hell. That's why I skipped my first ever class in this school.
Wait come to think of it... I only went to class for one day and it was exactly just ONE class. And now I'm even skipping for an entire week?! God my life's so messed up. It seems like my old ways as Brianna would never truly be gone. Of course, it won't, that's the real me after all.
We were walking along the slightly empty hallway when I decided to ask Elijah a question that popped up in my head, "It's been five days, have you found something out about that sorcerer?" I asked in a hushed tone as I scooted over to Elijah, not wanting anyone to hear our conversation.
I don't want anyone hearing about our conversation. This is confidential information and if this information falls into the wrong hands then oh boy I don't know what would befall the princess.
"Uh-uhm, well-- uh.." Elijah stuttered over his words as I looked around the hallway for any signs of eavesdroppers, but his stuttering prompted me to look at him since Elijah NEVER stutters. He's always just cold and nonchalant and monotone. At least that's what's explained in the story.
I looked up with one eyebrow raised but he avoided my gaze which made me all the more confused, but as I noticed his slightly reddened ears I finally got the gist of his predicament.
Had I gotten a bit too close?
As I thought that, I stepped one foot away and I was able to see him sigh slightly in relief.
Is he having a crush on me? I mean Elora's face is too pretty to pass, heck the word pretty is highly an understatement, but why did the future of the story seem to change? Did Elijah have a crush on Elora after all? Or more importantly, is Angelina really the female lead of the story..?
Wait, no, what am I thinking of course she is! But why can't I seem to remember anything?
...
......
..I don't even know what I'm trying to remember.
"Ah!" I winced when I felt a sharp pain in my head and I almost lost balance if it wasn't for Elijah's quick movement of catching me.
"Are you okay? That's why I told you you shouldn't have left the infirmary as soon as you woke up." He said in a calm but worried tone.
"I'm fine. Just take me to my room, the headache would be gone as soon as I drink water. This is a normal occurrence for me." I said nonchalantly.
"What? You mean to tell me that you get frequent headaches?!" He said in a panicked tone.
"I told you I'm fine." I said with a firm tone.
"I know you're only saying that." I heard him mutter and I only huffed in annoyance not wanting this argument to lead on.
Elijah soon took me to my room and I gratefully thanked him and he didn't leave for a few seconds as he only stared at me as if he wanted to say something. I raised one of my brows and as I was about to ask him what's the holdup, he quickly turned his back and immediately walked away. My brows furrowed at his weird actions but decided to not dwell too much on the matter so I closed my door and locked it before going to the mini kitchen to get myself a cup of water.
As soon as I drank the water the small bits of headache didn't subside for a moment so I went to lie down the bed. It didn't take long before I finally succumbed to sleep. Why am I so tired though?
∘◦❁◦∘
My mini break was over and before I knew it I had to attend to class again. Well, if you really think about it, you can't really consider my break mini since I've slept for an entire week. So basically, in Earth's term, today is Monday.
I fixed the slight crease of my dress/uniform and when I deemed it presentable I forced a smile on my face as I stared at myself in the mirror.
I'm starting to get used to my face as Elora and I'm slowly starting to come into terms that I am her and her is me since Brianna is gone now. I'm no longer that lowly commoner girl anymore-- er.. I mean, I'm no longer that poor pity girl with a sad background.
I used to think that my life was REALLY miserable, and it was, but then it took a turn when I entered this book.
Hmm... speaking about that, I still don't understand how I really came here. And where is the real Elora?
Before my mind can venture deeper into thoughts, a knock sounded on my door which broke me out of my daydreaming. I shook my head and told myself that I should worry about it next time and should focus on school right now so with one last look at myself, I walked towards my door and opened it revealing three familiar figures.
I was about to open my mouth and ask them what they were doing here when the one in front jumped to my embrace.
"I was so worried Elora!" Antonella sobbed on my shoulder and I looked at the two behind her with furrowed brows. Vanessa just shrugged while Vandryk was occupied with looking me up and down with a worried look deep in his eyes.
Why though? Oh wait.
"I was worried as well. I came to visit you at the infirmary but you were no longer there!" Vandryk exclaimed and was the one to hug me this time when Vanessa pulled a struggling Antonella away.
"I was worried too. I'm guessing you're fine now?" Vanessa asked with a hopeful look in her eyes and I nodded with a soft smile to which she gave a sigh of relief.
"Thanks for worrying about me guys. I appreciate it, really." I said genuinely and gave them a toothy grin and then we both just dived in for a group hug.
As soon as we broke free from the hug, my brows furrowed when I realized something.
"Uh.. so wait, you guys know each other?" I asked at the three of them. As far as I know of, I've met all three of them at different circumstances and I already know that I've introduced Vandryk to Antonella and vice versa but that can't be said when it comes to Vanessa.
"Come on, it's a long story. We'll explain it on the way." Vanessa said to which Vandryk agreed with an exasperated sigh, probably dreading the long explanation. I just giggled as I started to walk with them.
===
"So you mean to tell me that while you and Antonella were talking," I spoke looking at Vandryk then turning my attention to Vanessa, "Vanessa overheard you talking about me so she came up to you guys and asked about me?"
I then looked at Antonella who was looking at me expectingly, "And then you Antonella, you already know Vanessa since family Sevilla is an influential well-off family in the industry?"
"Yup. Just as we said." Vanessa said popping her p.
"You basically just repeated what we said." Vandryk muttered and I laughed.
"Of course! I was processing what you guys said to me. It's a me thing." Was the only thing I said and we slowed our walking when we found ourselves upon a huge crowd.
My brows furrowed.
"What's going on?" I heard Antonella's meek voice mutter.
Before we can completely head to class, I had asked the three of my companions to accompany me to my locker first since I had a copy of my schedule sticked inside my locker door and the original copy that I had was no longer in my possession. It probably got lost while I was running.
"Haven't we arrived at the area of your locker already?" Vanessa asked and I looked around and examined the numbers of the other surrounding lockers and I found out that she was correct.
I tried looking over the bustling heads but Elora was too short for her own good so with one last huff, I broke away from my group and headed towards the sweaty hustling bodies.
"Excuse me coming through! I need to get to my locker!!" I said loudly as I squeezed my way through.
I managed to get pass them and I huffed tiredly before focusing my attention at whatever they've been huddling on. What I saw however wasn't what I expected.
As I came closer to the locker that had sticky green fluid sticking out of the small vents, I realized that it was MY locker that someone decided to pull a prank on.
"Iiw! What is that liquid stuff?!"
"I don't know but it looks disgusting."
"Whoever's locker that is, I pity her. Who would dare and do such a thing?"
"Who did this?!" I decided to ask after a few minutes of staring and the bustling chatter of the crowd died down for only a bit before returning back to normal.
"Oh so it was her locker?"
"Pfft. How pitiful."
"Well, it only suits a barbaric woman like her."
No one answered my question until I saw three of my friends finally squeezing their way in. As soon as they got inside, Vandryk and Antonella quickly examined what had happened and Vanessa used her power (influential power) to disperse the crowd.
Vanessa was soon to our side and she stared mouth open at my locker.
"What the heck?" She said in disbelief and I nodded my head absentmindedly.
I came closer and entered the code to try and open it and I heard Vanessa's surprised gasp along with the words of "That's your locker?!" but I really wouldn't know since I wasn't paying much attention.
I opened my locker and the inside was filled with that green stuff.
What is this anyways?
"Don't touch it!" Vandryk warned but my hand already crept close for a touch. Besides, I was too curious to know what this booger liquid-y thing is anyway.
I touched it and to my surprise, it was soft and a bit sticky but not too sticky. I tried taking a piece and I molded it in my hand and stretched it.
Onlookers were staring at me with wide shocked eyes and mostly with disgusted expression but I was too focused to care.
Somehow this feels familiar.
I put it closer to my nose and sniffed it only to smell something with a mixture of soap and glue.
And then realization hit me and I cracked a smile before laughing out loud.
"Huh? Why are you laughing?" I heard Antonella ask but I was too busy with the slime in my hands to answer her.
As soon as I finished laughing, only then did I notice a paper that wasn't damaged by the slime and took it in my right hand and read it.
You better watch out.
Stay away from him, he's mine.
Were the words tinted with scrubby writing and my brows furrowed.
Him?
Who's him?
"What's that? What is it?" Vandryk asked probably after noticing my furrowed brows and wrinkled expression.
"It's nothing. Just some random doodling." I rolled my eyes and crumpled the paper to my side.
"So someone really did just pull a prank on you?" Vanessa asked with distaste in her tone.
"Yeah." I smiled upon remembering the lousy prank using slime. I shook my head.
Whoever it is probably thought that I'd get pissed off by the disgusting thing but little did they know that it's a very fun toy back to where I came from. Now that I think of it, there's no slime here in this place how did they get it though?
"I can see traces of magic." I heard Antonella mutter and I looked at her to see her indigo eyes fogged making it seem like a dull shade of blue before returning back to their original color.
My brows raised surprised by her sudden use of magic.
"Of course. They wouldn't be able to make this by themselves after all." I said to myself.
"What?" Vanessa asked and I shook my head.
"Nothing. Catch!" I said and threw the piece of slime to her.
She acted out on instincts and caught the slime but when she realized what it is her face contorted to disgust making me instantly laugh.
"That's disgusting! How dare you do that! That's not funny at all!!" She hissed, her hands seeming to freeze in their place and I raised both my hands up in a surrendering motion.
"Wait! Before you become mad at me.." I quickly grabbed another piece of the slime and played with it, squishing and stretching it effortlessly.
"...try playing with it. It's actually pretty fun. And before you can judge by how disgusting it looks, try smelling it. It doesn't even smell that bad at all." I said and she hesitatingly put it closer to her nose to take a sniff. Antonella and Vandryk watching at either of her side intently.
Vanessa, after taking a sniff, nodded her head and began to hesitatingly squish and stretch it the same way I did mine.
Her face was full of unsureness but after a while she got the hang of it and smiled contently.
"You're right. It is pretty fun." She said.
"Me too! I wanna try!!" Antonella was quick to grab a huge piece off my locker and played with it too, but not before smelling hers too.
And soon, Vandryk was enjoying the slime toy as well.
"This is actually not that bad. But it's still not a good prank to cover your entire locker using it." Vanessa said.
"Yeah. How are you even gonna clean that?" Antonella asked exasperatedly and Vandryk gave a sound of approval.
"Uhm..." I turned my head to the side to see three girls looking at me with a hesitant look on their face. They seem to want to ask me something but was unsure so I urged them with a raised brow and one of them tried to toughen it out.
"Uh-- we just wanna ask.. what exactly is that?" She said pointing to the green slime in our hands and instantly, I noticed the curiousness in their gazes.
I grinned.
I just had a good idea.
"This my friend is a toy called slime. It can also be a stress relieving toy or you can just play with it whenever you want. Try taking a piece, it's really fun." I urged for them and my friends seemed to caught up on what I was trying to do so they nodded their heads eagerly.
They each approached with hesitation but took a piece nonetheless. Soon, their rigid and wary posture softened and they were playing with the slime with ease in their hand.
"You're right. This IS fun! I never knew such a toy exists."
"That's why you should never judge a book by its cover huh? It looks disgusting but its actually a pretty fun toy."
"Thanks err--"
"Ella." I offered with a smile and the three beamed at me before finally walking off with their toy slime in hand.
"You're curious as well? Go and take some. I won't be able to take everything so feel free to take as much as you want!" I offered at one girl who was looking at me expectingly and she was quick to come over and taking a big piece for herself.
Soon, almost all the girls in the entire corridor are lined up just to get a piece of the slime toy and it didn't take long for my locker to get cleaned up.
"Sorry guys. That's the last of it." I muttered with a shrug as I gave the last girl her piece when she asked for assistance to the once stuck behind my things.
The rest of the girls gave a sad 'aww' but went along their way nonetheless.
"Now that's a problem solved!" I heard Vandryk mutter with a grin and we all bursted out laughing.
Just as our laughter died down, the bell rang indicating the start of the class so we shared one look before heading to each of our own respective classes.
Me and Vanessa bid the other two farewell at one point of intersection and they took a left turn while me and Vanessa took right.
Me and Vanessa shared a glance as we came closer to our class with the toy slime in our hand.
