"Mummy are you there?" I asked shedding tears.
But my mom didn't respond, she was gone beyond this world. She couldn't handle the burden that was placed on her shoulder by my father. like a wind, she faded away.
My father had left my mum when I was five years old, due to her reckless demands for material things. According to him, he was the only one providing for both the feeding and other stuff, I guess he got tired of it and had to leave her. But my mum as nonchalant as she was, didn't bother. she had gotten what she wanted, A divorce and the free life like her single friends.
And here she was lying motionless, all the fancy jewelries, clothes were all to nothing.
I guess I didn't introduce myself, Am Grover Harrison, and this is my story.
I grew up in a different area in town, we weren't among the so call well-to-do people, but we were just fine with what we had. my father, Ian Harrison was a banker and my mum, Jane Harrison was just a housewife. As the only child of my family, I was spoiled beyond what I could ever imagine.
And as you thought, all bills were directly from my father's pocket. My mum was trying actually, but since she didn't have much, my father did it all. She was a good wife, obedient and well-mannered. but it all changed when she came across miss Sophia, Margaret and Esperanza, her classmates in school.
Now the problem wasn't the company, the problem was the garbage that they do feed my mum.
And like I said earlier, they were so single that they influenced my mum so badly that she always picked up unnecessary fights with my father.Things got so heated that she would leave the house on a trip and spend months before returning home, drunk and wasted.
My father through out those times of her absence, take me to his workplace when I was done with school in the afternoon.
Damn, I cursed the day my mum meet those witches. My mum would come back from her trips with gifts ranging from fancy jewelries, shoes, clothes and money and would spoil me till she travels again. My father on the other hand, would complain bitterly over her change in behavior and she would either challenge him or attack him with cursed words like " You would never be Rich like me, or any man" " you will die poor" " Useless man"
Guess I can't blame the poor man for leaving. Because on a Sunday morning, she came back home, this time she wasn't wasted as usual,
"Ian I want a divorce " she said immediately she saw him.
"What's the problem this time" my father replied after minutes of shock
"I just want to be free, I want to explore the world" she replied instantly " Don't ask me for consideration, because I have made up my mind and there's no going back"
"I will prepare the paperwork and we go our separate ways " she continued.
That day was the last time I saw my father shed tears, because after months of having family meeting from both sides, my parents divorced, and my father left.
My mum died of HIV, Her reckless lifestyle of satisfying men for money pushed her to her early grave. She couldn't handle the pain. And her friend as usual were no way to be found till date.
