With the memory of what we had and the love we shared before she was changed, Kota and I were able to make it through the next month. Sure we had our moments where we doubted that we could emotionally make it but with the love of my life by my side anything and everything was possible.
Kota and I stood side by side holding hands at the edge of the beach. We were waiting for Dakota and Emma to arrive. They would be accompanied by Esme, Bella and Renesmee who were going to join us too. SInce we never slept the two bedrooms would be used for the children while we vacationed here away from the worries of humans spotting us. We could do whatever we wanted and didn't have to hide who we were.
Before I could see the boat I heard it. Seconds later several miles out I caught side of the boat itself. I had to use all my strength to not jump into the ocean and swim out to the boat. Luckily Kota was strong as well because if she went I would surely follow.
After much patience we were rewarded as the boat pulled up to the dock. I stared at the boat as Kota pulled me forward. I watched from the end of the dock as Nessie came out of the boat and took off running into her fathers arms. Behind her followed a girl with dirty blonde hair and a boy with dark hair. Our son and daughter.
The girl was taller then the boy by a few inches and looked like her mother. The boy looked remarkably like myself, his strong jaw line, his dark full hair and even the setting of his facial features.
When Emma spotted me a smile grew increasingly quickly across her face. She nudged Dakota who was mesmirized by the fish in the ocean and pointed in our direction. In the next second the boy took off running towards us and jumped into my arms.
The moment I wrapped my arms around him I never wanted to let go.
"You have gotten so big!" I said as I set him to his feet.
"I'm not that big, Emma is bigger by this much." He said holding out his arms.
"I was a shrimp too as a kid, don't worry you'll get bigger like your daddy." I replied as I ruffled his hair.
Emma finally joined our side and she wrapped her arms around her mother and the three of us huddled together. I looked at Kota who had a large grin on her face, she couldn't stop smiling.
"Was it worth the wait?" I asked her.
Kota nodded her head. Bella walked by us followed by Esme and went straight into the arms of their loves ones before they headed inside. I heard a unfamiliar grumble sound and was at a loss for words. What was that growling noise.
Emma pulled on my sleeve. "Dad, Dakota is hungry." she said.
That ended the mystery of the growling sound as it turns out my son was just hungry. My son, I could get used to saying that.
"Didn't aunt Bella or grandma Esme feed you before you left?" Kota said in reply.
Dakota nodded his head. "I wasn't hungry I wanted to leave and come to see you and mommy." Dakota replied.
I couldn't help but smile. My son was impatient to see me and his mother.
"Well we can go inside and have a bit of lunch then if you and Emma want to we can go swimming or hiking." I finished.
As we began walking towards the house Dakota grabbed my hand. He smiled at me and said he loved me before we entered through the doors.
For lunch I made simple sandwiches. Even sandwiches were a challenge for me since I had never cooked a day in my life, unless you count cutting up meat that day Edward was first bringing home Bella to introduce to the family.
Dakota willingly attacked the sandwich but Emma didn't touch a thing. After a few minutes I noticed something was wrong.
"She doesn't eat meat." Bella said as she entered the room. "Meat makes her sick, she can't digest it."
That was weird. A human that couldn't eat meat.
"She is just like me." Kota said with a bit of a smile. "The only bad thing was that I eventually grew severaly allergic to meat. When I was a human if I had meat I reacted terribly. It became poison to my system."
"So that is going to happen to Emma?" I asked as I looked for replies.
Carlisle set a plate of vegetables, nuts and fruit infront of Emma and watched as she immeadiately dug in and began eating.
"In some cases when I studied a human who had a reaction it seems that their mind registered meat as if it was a harmful substance. Therefore their body goes into overdrive trying to get rid of it. This is how Emma's body reacts." Carlisle said as he sat down to study his newest grandchildren.
Bella, Edward and Renesmee joined us all. Nessie was plucking pieces of tomato from Emma's plate.
"A few things you need to know is that Dakota eats only meat and Emma eats only vegetables. Its different for Dakota because he just doesn't like fruits and vegetables but for Emma she can't have the meat." Bella said.
The woman I fell in love with was a vegetarian and now our daughter was a vegetarian as well. Our son ate only meat and so did I, if you counted animal blood. It fascinated me how much we were alike.
Jasper came into the room and placed a large bucket on the counter. From the smell and appeal it had to me I knew it was animal blood. He had a few stains on his shirt so I knew he had already went hunting.
"Here you go sis." Jasper said as he moved the bucket closer to Kota.
Kota picked up the bucket, thanked Jasper and then went to drink the blood away from the children. Esme confirmed to me that the children knew what they were and knew how to present themselves in public around humans. She also let us know that Dakota and Emma knew we drank blood and that the rest of the family did as well. The only thing is that they were too young to witness it. Whether or not they would be blood drinkers would depend on their habits as they grew older.
After Kota had finished the blood and cleaned up she rejoined us. Just in time too because the children were finished and wanted to go play in the water. Dakota and Emma had never been to a beach before. Whenever Nessie went to hang with Jake at La Push her cousins stayed behind.
That brought curiosity to me. What happened to Jake?
"Jake is taking a hiatus to take care of his father who is sick." Edward said answering my question.
Is he still attached at the hip to Nessie? I thought.
Edward nodded his head. I couldn't help but smirk at the thought of Edward being annoyed for the rest of eternity at a werewolf in love with his daughter. Edward growled at my thought and I lifted Dakota into my arms and walked outside.
I moved Dakota to my shoulders as I moved into the water.
"I want down daddy." Dakota demanded immeadiately.
Carefully I moved to the shallow water and set Dakota to his feet. I turned around as I heard footsteps and saw Emma running across the sand in a swim suit before she jumped into the water and began swimming.
"Can you swim?" I asked Dakota.
He quickly shook his head. "No but I want to learn, can you teach me please?" he said as he watched his sister swimming a few feet out.
I nodded my head and showed him the arm and feet movements before I chaperoned him in the deeper water. For the first 10 minutes he struggled but then he slowly began catching on. Before the end of the night he was swimming like he had known for days.
When it got later into the evening we moved from the water to the shoreline and watched as the sun began to set. Edward, Bella and Nessie joined us quickly afterwards. Then Esme and Carlisle followed quickly by Alice and Jasper.
Life felt happy again and I knew without a doubt living forever was possible for me. I had my wife and we had our children, our beautiful children. Eternity is just the beginning for us.
