3 days without you

I sat in the room, my twin son and daughter in my arms, and listened to the sound that was heaven and relief to my ears. That familiar sound I was trying to place was the sound of a changing heart. I looked to Edward and Carlisle who seemed to be relieved so that was a god sign. A few minutes passed and Kota began writhing and screaming in pain. I wanted nothing more than to be by her side but I had my two children to take care of. I took the babies into the next room and had Edward and Carlisle watch Kota during her transformation. As I had laid down the twins my phone rang. I quickly answered it and heard Alice's voice. It took me a few seconds to hear what she was saying because her voice was really fast to the point that I didn't even want to listen. "Alice, slow down please, what is going on?" I said patiently. I heard her mumble something before she repeated herself. "Bella, Esme and Nessie are on their way back to get the babies, they are coming back to Forks." I began pacing quickly, my free hand in a fist. "What! No, definitely not." "Emmett, Kota is going to be unstable for her first few weeks. I saw her attacking and killing a human." Alice replied. I turned my body towards the room that Kota's screams originated. "Whatever I need to do to protect them." I said sadly. "They will be safe with us Emmett I promise." Alice said. I honestly trusted her so there was nothing I could say. "I'll see you when this is over." I replied before I hung up. I gave my full attention back to my children. Who knew how long it would be until I got to see them again. Since Kota was my wife she was my responsibility. I needed to assist her through her new born phase. The hardest part would be hunting, I had to teach her about the vegetarian way of life. It would be dangerous to let her out anywhere around humans and the only wild life was at the mainland. I would have to have Edward or Carlisle harvest animal blood and bring it back to the island if this was going to work. I smiled as I watched my babies, they were awake now and growing a bit fussy. Edward quickly appeared with two bottles of what I knew to be blood, by the smell it gave off I could tell it was animal and not human. He gave me a bottle and then took Emma into his arms and began feeding her. I did the same with Dakota. Edward smiled as he looked at Emma. "I remember when Renesmee was just a little baby." He murmered before bringing Emma up to kiss her on the cheek. Edwards eyes widened momentarily before he chuckled to himself. "Yes I know uncle Edward is always cold." he said to Emma. I looked at him. "She thinks you are cold?" I asked. Edward nodded his head. "So what is Dakota thinking?" Edward looked over at Dakota who was staring at me and laughed. "He wishes the noise would stop so he can go back to sleep." Suddenly Edward looked at Emma, his expression softening. "What is it?" I asked him. Edward held Emma closer in his arms. "She is making the connection to the screams and her mother. She wants her mother to hold her." I quickly laid Dakota back in his bassinet before I took Emma into my arms. "Your mother is going to be alright, she is strong." I said soothingly. I heard the boat pulling up to the dock and I knew my time with my babies were up until their mother was safe to be around them. That could be atleast a year and from the way that Nessie grew they would be about the size of a 6 or 7 year old by then. Life was so unfair and complicated. I rose to my feet and placed Emma in the arms of Bella who had just entered the room. "I trust you sis." I whispered before I looked down at Emma. "You are going to go with your aunt Bella until your mom gets better." Edward moved over to our side, Dakota in his arms. He then handed Dakota off to Esme who began cooing over him. "Esme, he doesn't like the cooing." he replied quickly. I quickly said goodbye to my son and daughter and watched as they disappeared with my sister and mother. I turned around when I felt Edwards hand on my shoulder and quickly embraced him. He quickly hugged me back. "It's going to be okay, Kota is going to wake up in the next few days and then its all uphill from there." he said to me. "Carlisle and myself are going to be here every step of the way to help you." "Alice had a vision-" "Alice's visions are subjective, plus they aren't always what they seem to be." Edward said quickly. "Do you think she can do what Bella did and skip the crazed newborn stage?" I asked him. Edward and I headed back into the house and sat down. "I am not sure but Kota had a few months to prepare for this so it is possible." A small smile crossed my lips from the small ounce of hope that laid before me. I had hope that just like Bella, Kota would be tame. Two days, two long days I waited. The day before the changing was finished Alice and Jasper came. Alice was here to forsee any trouble that may come and Jasper was here to keep her mood stablized if it was needed. I sat at the head of the hospital bed watching the final stages of the venoms work finish. My wife was stunning, her skin porcelain and her hair so brightly hued in it blonde color. Her lips were a gentle rosey pink and her eye lids were a light pink. Alice had dressed her dressed in a gentle blue dress that fell to her knees. A light blue head band held her hair back away from her face. She was so beautiful and innocent and I hoped to keep it that way. If I could help it I would make sure that human blood never touched her lips. As a matter of fact I was so prepared that I had several gallons of animal blood stored away. It would take her atleast a week or two to get through the stash. If that happened we still had Alice, Jasper, Edward and Carlisle who could go out on a blood run. I knew things would work our well, or I just had a real strong hope. I wanted the mother of my children, my wife to be able to hold her children. I wanted her to be able to watch them grow instead of walk into their lives having last seen them when they were barely born and have them looking several years old. I wanted her to experience every moment with our children. "She's waking" Alice said quickly as she moved to stand beside Jasper. I could feel the mood in the room neutralizing almost instantaneously. The last few beats of her everspeeding heart stopped and I could feel every eye in the room on myself and especially Kota. I took her hand into mine and kissed it and suddenly her eyes flashed open. I was staring into the deep red eyes of my wife. "Kota." I said as I squeezed her hand gently. "My love you have come back to me." Very slowly -for a vampire- she rose up and stood to her feet. I released her hand and she looked around the room curiously. I watched as she stared at her hand which was sparkling as the sunlight hit it. She turned it over before her eyes a few times and smiled. "Beautiful" I heard her murmer. I moved forward cautiously and brought her into my arms. She didn't return my hug immeadiately so I released her. "Who are you?" she asked me. Looking around the room she took a few steps back. "Who are they?" I looked at my family and then back to Kota who kept inching away. My wife, the mother of my children, didn't know who I was. What was wrong? It was Carlisle that spoke. "Venom doesn't heal everything which brings me to believe that because Kota had been dead for atleast 20 minutes before the venom started to take affect she may have permanently lost some of her long term or short term memories, maybe even both." I looked at my wife in disbelief. "So she doesn't remember me or the fact that she had children." I snarled. "Excuse me but I am not sure what is going on, can someone please tell me?" Kota spoke genuinely. I looked at her and then to Edward. "Is she serious?" I asked him. Edward nodded his head. "She has a few snips from the past but she doesn't know whether they are real or a dream." he replied back to me. I nodded my head and then looked back to Kota. Moving forward a few inches I tried to put on a gentle smile. Everyone else in the room left us so we had a bit of privacy. I guesstured for Kota to take a seat and she did. I couldn't deny that I was somewhat relieved, it seems that the crazed newborn stage was no where in sight. Now we just needed to get past the obstacle that stood in our paths. "First off, I don't want to overwhelm you but I am your husband." I reached my hand forward and touched the ring on her finger. "We have two children, you almost died birthing them and now you are a vampire." Kota nodded. "I know." I felt my hope rise. She knew. "I know I'm a vampire." she replied. Well there went my hope. "You don't remember me? Or our son and daughter?" I asked her. I watched as she scrunched up her face as if she was doing her best to recall a memory. "I remember this." She said raising her hand forward to show her ring. "I remember you placing it on my finger." This was a start. I could work with this. After all I made a vow. Carlisle entered the room with a large cup of the blood we had stashed and handed it to her. "You may be thirsty, drink this it will help. If you want more just look in the kitchen." He said before he quickly disappeared into the next room. Kota drank silently and slowly from the cup. Once she had taken her final sip she slowly set the cup down beside her. For a few seconds she sat in dead silence, not even moving. Then she spoke. "You say I have a son and a daughter." I moved towards the edge of my seat. "We... have a son and a daughter, Dakota and Emma." She nodded her head. "I would like to see them."
