Anticipation at the thought of seeing Martin again had Ellis on pins-and-needles as he dressed for their evening out. He kept cautioning himself it was not a date. They were just two men going to see a play. He didn’t even know which play, not that it mattered. The drive into the city would have been easy if there hadn’t been a three car pileup on I-90. Waiting it out until the mess had been cleared did nothing for Ellis’s already tense nerves. But he managed to remain calm, get to the Quarter, and find a space in the Jax Brewery lot. He had just gotten out of the car, and locked the doors, when he was overcome by a dizzy spell. “Why now?” he whispered, pressing his hands to the top of the car until it passed. “Stress? Maybe.
