Chapter 7 Love

1980 Words
“So what do you think?” Having no idea that his true identity had already been exposed, Eric asked Leona nervously. He was very good at drawing, but it was the first time he had drawn on someone’s skin. And that someone was the person he deeply loved. He was extremely anxious about her reactions. Leona blinked her eyes once to give him a confirmative answer. There were little bubbles rising from the bottom of her heart. It was hard to say how she felt about his love for her at this point. Too many things were hustling in her head. But it was always nice to see an old friend back. She was happy to know he was still alive. “Glad to hear you liked it,” Eric grinned at getting her approval. He then asked, “Are you hungry or thirsty? Do you want any food or water?” Leona blinked her eyes twice. That was a No. She still felt cold and dead. It seemed like before she totally came back alive, she wouldn’t need to eat anymore. And it would save her the trouble of the bathroom. She felt glad about that. Eric wanted to ask her something else, but his phone rang, and it was an alarm reminding him it was already 10 o’clock. He turned it off and scratched the back of his head with a reluctant frown, “I have to go to work now, Leo,” he said. “But don’t worry. I work as a bartender right downstairs. I will find the time to come back and check on you.” Leona blinked her eyes once, trying to tell him there was no need to worry. Eric then asked where she liked to stay, then placed her on a chair right beside the window. “I will find a wheelchair later. And I will come back once an hour. Don’t worry.” he said with obvious worry in his eyes. Leona was amused by him. How could he be so young but so mature? She blinked her eyes again, trying her best to tell him she would be okay. Eric then reluctantly walked towards the door. “Wait for me, Leo,” he said before he left the room. “I will bring you flowers when I get off work.” Leona blinked her eyes again. She really wanted to smile. She was snatched off the throne but accidentally got her childhood friend back. Guess being dead wasn’t that bad after all. After Eric left, she sat beside the window, looking at those rugged roofs and intricate alleys, and started to think. How could Eric grow up to be an Omega? He was an Alpha’s son. Actually, she knew his father was a very powerful Alpha. Then what happened to him? Also, he told her he had a handicapped sister. It seemed like they both survived that car accident. Did their mother survive too? Then why didn’t they come back home? There were lots of questions waiting to answer, but Leona didn’t really care. She just simply felt happy to have him back. Eric did as he had promised, coming up to check on her every hour. He got the wheelchair for her at noon. By the end of the day, when he ended his day shift, he brought her a pot of white orchids and placed it right beside the window. “It reminds me of you,” he said in a shy tone. Leona smiled at him. By then, the muscles on her face had been back to normal. She was able to have facial expressions, but unable to talk. Eric was thrilled. “You are making progress fast, Leo,” he said, “It won’t take long before you are back on your feet.” Leona agreed. They then watched a movie together. The next day, Eric bathed her and did her makeup again before he went to work. Leona got her breath back that day and could feel her arms. And after another similar but sweet seven days, she was totally back to normal. But she held it as a secret and pretended that she still couldn’t talk or walk. It was hard to say why she did that. She just felt it wasn’t the right time to have some actual interaction with him. He hadn’t told her who he really was. There must be a reason. And she felt nervous about speaking with him. What should she say anyway? She couldn’t just ask him out for a date, right? She still couldn’t get in touch with her wolf and her body was as cold as dead. It seemed like the Moon Goddess’s relic had no intention of giving her temperature back. All things added together, made it complicated. The next night, right after Leona found she was able to walk. Eric came back with a black eye and some bruises on his face. His left arm broke, and his nose bled. It was obvious he was beaten by someone. “I fell off the stairs,” he lied. Leona understood. He was supposed to be an Alpha wolf. It was embarrassing to be beaten like that. “But no need to worry. I will be fine soon,” he tried to give her an assuring smile, but it caused the wounds on his face to stretch. He hissed in pain. Leona watched him take out some medicine from the cabinet and applied them to his wounds. Judging from the amount of those medicines, this must have happened before maybe even multiple times. So he was an Omega wolf who couldn’t even heal himself. Leona couldn’t imagine what kind of life it would be like. The same night, after Eric went to sleep, Leona pushed open the window and jumped out of it. She had lost her wolf but she still had her power. It was easy for her to track someone or beat them. Following the smell left on Eric’s shirt, Leona walked through many dark, stinky alleys and then got to another noisy bar. Before stepping into it, she put a scarf around her head to cover her face and her significant long white hair. And then she found that man, a muscular rogue with dark tattoos on both his arms, at a booth in the corner of the bar. Four girls and two other guys were surrounding him, drinking and laughing. Leona walked up and stared at him with her cold eyes. The rogue soon noticed her. “What do you want, sweetie?” He licked his lips with his tongue, eyes full of l/ust. Though hiding half of her face under the scarf, Leona was still a great beauty. She smiled at him without meaning it, “I want a word with you, Rogue.” It was extremely disrespectful to address a man, who seemed to be the leader of some gangsters, as Rogue. The two underlings growled angrily. The bar quieted down. People started looking and whispering. Leona didn’t hold back. “It’s a life and death matter,” she said. The Rogue licked his lips again. He couldn’t detect any special smell or vibes from this weird but gorgeous woman, which meant she wasn’t strong at all, definitely not a cop or someone like that. It made him want to act like a “gentleman” in front of all those people. “Sure, why not? It‘s always a pleasure to talk with a beauty like you,” he said in a playful tone, then stood up from the couch. Leona turned and led the way to the back door. Once they got to the dark alley outside, the man reached his hand to her scarf from her back, trying to find out what she looked like. Leona grabbed his throat before he could touch her. She lifted him up to the air against the wall, hand squeezing his throat, not enough to cause him to lose his voice, but enough to keep him from screaming for help. “Did you beat a bartender named Eric today?” she didn’t waste her time and asked. The rogue’s face had turned purple because of the lack of air. He nodded his head, struggling hard to breathe. In his whole life, he had never encountered anyone, wolf or not, as powerful as her. He didn’t even see how she grabbed him. And she didn’t have any smell or vibes, almost like a ghost. A very intimidating one. “Tell me the reason,” Leona weakened her grip on the rogue’s throat, so he could speak. The rogue cried, gasping for air. “Because he wanted his money back,” he said. Leona lifted up her brows, “What money?” “The money he gave me to buy Dragon Alpha’s scale,” the rogue answered. “But it was impossible!! He was dreaming!! You can’t buy things like that!!” It was true. Dragon Alpha’s scale has special power on it. They didn’t allow anyone except for their direct descendant to get it. Leona frowned, “You knew it and you lied to him and scammed his money.” The rogue argued, “That’s how things work here. It was his fault to get scammed so easily! He should have known better. In this district, you don’t trust anyone!” There was no point in arguing with him about that. Leona asked another question, “Did he tell you why he wanted the Dragon Alpha’s scale?” “I don’t know,” the rogue gasped. “Something about his sister. I wasn’t listening. We don’t do family here.” Leona pressed her lips, then loosened her grip on the rogue’s neck and dropped him on the ground. “Return his money and keep your mouth shut about what happened tonight,” she said in a cold, intimidating tone, “or else I assure you no one will ever see you again.” ** On the other side of the city, in the kingdom’s royal castle, a n/aked man suddenly sat up from his glorious king-size bed as if awakened by a nightmare. Beside him, two other n/aked girls were still in sound sleep, cuddling each other. The man grabbed his phone from the nightstand and then stormed into the bathroom. He pulled a bath towel to cover his body, and then dialed a number in front of the mirror. “What?” From another side of the phone came Felix’s distant voice. He was still awake, working on the night patrol. Austin growled, hand clutching the edge of the basin. “She is still ALIVE!” He said, gasping, cold sweats were all over his forehead. Felix fell into dead silence on another side of the phone. After a while, he asked with a frown, “Did you just have a nightmare? There’s no way she is still alive, Your Majesty. I killed her. We killed her together. Don’t you remember?” “I know!! But I just got this feeling,” Austin’s eyes were red. “She is still alive, f**k!” “Relax,” Felix’s tone was indifferent. “You are just hallucinating. I guess being the King isn’t that easy after all.” “I am s-e-r-i-o-u-s here,” Austin gnashed. “Go check the body!” He didn’t know why but he just got this strange feeling that something terrible was going to happen. “I want you to make sure she is indeed dead. And this time, once you get confirmed, I want you to burn her into ashes and dump her into the deepest sea!!” Felix smirked at the other side of the phone. “Sure, why not?” he said, “It’s not like we still have some conscience left.”
