Chapter 8 Chasing

1725 Words
The next day, when Eric took the dinner break before his night shift, he looked extraordinarily happy. “A friend of mine has just returned my money,” he said, eating some Chinese food and sitting on the floor with his legs crossed. “I thought I would never get it back, but he found me this afternoon and gave it back to me. I guess there are still some good people.” Leona smiled, sitting beside the window on the wheelchair. On the windowsill was a row of garden pots with different kinds of flowers in them-Eric brought her back a pot of flowers each day. She liked to sit next to them and hear him talking about his days. “I thought I could buy the Dragon Alpha’s scale from him,” he admitted with a disappointed sigh. Leona felt glad that he started telling her his problems. Only in that way could she actually help him. Just to return his favor of saving her. She thought. “My sister has been sick since she was born. She couldn’t stand up for some unknown reason,” he explained. “My mother and I thought she might cure herself once she grew up and shifted. But even after she did, her wolf is still disabled. No matter how hard she tries, she can’t move her legs. She is only 14 years old. It’s heartbreaking,” he sighed. “I then visited some of my mother’s old friends and did some research on my own. Some of them told me the Dragon Alpha’s scale has special power which might help to cure the disabled wolf. So I thought I could give it a try. That’s one of the reasons why I came back,” he added. “Before I turned 18 two months ago, I was living in the human world. And I also came back to see you, Leo,” he said. “I rushed back as soon as I heard your coronation was about to begin. I am glad I did that.” Leona felt glad too, or they wouldn’t have met each other. She looked at Eric’s disappointed, and worried face, and couldn’t help but wonder if he would like to take a trip with her to the Dragon’s land. She had never heard the Dragon’s scale could cure wolves, but she could get some for him. It was impossible for others, but not for her. As the Queen of wolves, she was sure that the dragon Alpha would do her a favor. The problem here was she didn’t know how to ask him in the proper way. She still hadn’t figured out how to tell him she was able to speak and walk now. And she didn’t know what should be the first sentence she said to him. She was so much older than him and she just didn’t know where to begin. “I have to go to work now.” Having no idea what was going on in her mind, after finishing his dinner, Eric stood up and cleaned the floor. Before he left, he put a rug on her legs. He had tried to put Leona on the bed before his night shift, but Leona always refused. She told him using her eyes that she enjoyed the night view of this turbulent neighborhood. Eric then let her. “I will try to get off work earlier tonight,” he said before he stood up from beside her wheelchair. He liked to talk with her from a lower position. Leona knew he wanted to kiss her goodbye, but eventually, he only let out a painful sigh. He didn’t want to get her upset by being rude to her. “If you get tired, remember to get some sleep. There’s no need to wait for me,” he said, and then stood up with reluctance in his eyes. Leona smiled at him as the goodbye. Eric then walked out of the door. Once he left, Leona soon got up from her wheelchair. She picked up the iPad Eric left for her, sat on the bed, and then started to search for the most suitable way to travel to the dragon’s land. Having been busy with the Kingdom’s affairs since she was 14, Leona had never had any personal trips without a diplomatic officer following her. She was kind of looking forward to it. As for taking her kingdom back or getting revenge on Austin. All those things can wait. They were not going anywhere else anyway. It was strange. Ever since she found out Eric to be that little boy, she just desperately wanted to start a new life. Her marriage bond with Austin had disappeared the moment Felix stabbed that sword into her heart. She was now a free woman. And traveling to the dragon’s land with Eric would be such a great start. She couldn’t wait for it. Checking on those cute little hotels she had never gotten the chance to live in before, Leona suddenly got this strong feeling that something familiar but very dangerous was coming to her. The air blew into the room from the window smelt like those elite royal warriors led directly by Felix. And the bar downstairs suddenly got into a riot. Someone was yelling frantically inside and someone was running towards outside as if suddenly there was a fire. But Leona knew it wasn’t a fire, but a search, or more specifically, an arrest and a hunt. The authorities, especially the royal army led by Felix, would never get into this land beyond law for no reason. Leona just knew Felix must have been searching for her. It seemed like those two gardeners had finally reported her missing body. And Felix somehow tracked Eric’s car down to the bar. “What are you doing?! You have no right to search us!!!” She heard Eric’s boss, that chubby chief yelling from downstairs. And there were quick and rhythmed footsteps coming upstairs. Above the bar, the second floor, and the third floor of this building were all cheap hotel rooms. Eric’s room was one of those on the third floor. Leona heard them kicking doors one by one from the second floor. It wouldn’t take them long to get to Eric’s room. She thought for a few seconds, and then put down the iPad and wore her shoes. She wasn’t afraid of being found. None of Felix’s warriors could even cause a scratch on her. But she hated to drag Eric into this disgusting, traitor’s drama. And to be honest, right now, she didn’t want to confront Felix or Austin. It would just spoil her good mood here with Eric. She walked towards the window and then started to move those flower pots onto the floor. She planned to jump out of the window and then hide on the roof for a while. Right after she moved that pot of white orchids, a skinny hand suddenly reached the windowsill from outside the window. Leona was startled at first, but she soon saw a head with black hair pop out from below the window following that hand, and it was Eric who had just climbed up from the building’s outer wall. When their eyes met beside the window, Leona totally froze. Eric was surprised to see her stand up, but he didn’t make a fuss about it. “Hi, Leo,” he just smiled at her as he always did, hanging himself on the outer wall. Leona smiled too. She asked, “What are you doing here?” It felt so natural, not embarrassed at all. “To inform you that our enemy is here,” Eric grinned. He gasped a little because of his highly challenging action outside the window. Leona reached her hand to him to pull him inside. “When did you give up the door?” she asked. “They blocked the stairs and forbade everyone from going up. I have to help myself in another way,” he said, jumping inside the window. Leona’s eyes followed him. She still felt nervous about speaking with him like that. Eric wasn’t a typical tall guy, just about 6'0 tall, which was almost the same as her. When they stood in front of each other, face to face, which was the very first time, Leona suddenly felt shy and averted her eyes. It was stupid. She was already a married woman, but facing him, suddenly, she went back to that 14-year-old teenage girl who had just had her very first crush in her life. She didn’t even know where to put her hands. “Leo…” It was such a good thing that Eric just understood her. The moment she shifted her gaze away from him, he realized that she must have remembered. He called her name, and then took a step forward to pull her hands, and then, slowly but very gently, he encased her into his embrace. When their skins touched each other, Leona couldn’t help but tremble a little. His body was as hot as the lava, but she was still cold as the dead. “I will scare you away,” she whispered at his shoulder, feeling the strong arms around her back getting tighter and tighter. Eric didn’t answer her for that, just kept printing kisses on her silk-like snow hair. “I missed you, Leo,” he said. “I missed you so much.” Leona then knew he didn’t mind. It was strange. When they hugged each other, she didn’t feel the alleged mate bond, nothing like that. There was another kind of strange bond that made them trust each other. “I missed you too,” she whispered, feeling so shy but so happy. They cuddled each other in the narrow room on this riotous night. It was only when those searching troops had come to the third floor did they break free from each other. “What should we do now?” she smiled at him shyly but with so much expectation in her eyes, hands still holding his. Eric smiled at her too. He was really happy to be reunited with her. “First we escape, Leo,” he grinned and then said, “And then we go wherever we like."
