Dylan, Amber, Hematite and Garnet had already gotten to the end of the hill when Nina appeared from nowhere.
“What the hell!?” Dylan exclaimed after she appeared right in front of him.
“I heard you were going out so I wanted to join you” Nina smiled and Dylan gave her a heard look for trying to scare him to death.
“You can tag along, I heard he’s your mate” Garnet commented but Dylan found it insulting. “The princess said your first love was a demon too” Garnet continued but the threatening look on Dylan’s face made him stop.
“Dude, I am only curious” Garnet backed up; hands up in defeat before moving to Amber who was walking in front. They were in the forest beneath the mountains which their hideouts were situated.
“What are you doing here?” Dylan questioned Nina whom since he’d met her was moderately dressed. She was putting on a casual Tee-shirt, blue jeans and pink canvas which seems to match with the colour of her tee-shirt.
“Did you like it? I picked it for you. Helen gave it to me…but it’s not actually my style because I’m sore into black and spooky but I think you might actually like it” Nina smiled while staring into Dylan’s perplexed face. He sighed and tried to catch up with others in the front instead since he was in no mood for her.
“Dylan-
“Leave me alone!” Dylan snapped at her and Nina jolted in shock.
“Please just leave me aloe, it’s hard for me already” Dylan croaked out in frustration before turning away from her and immediately walked past Garnet and Amber who had stood in shock. Dylan walked to join Haematite who was up front; she found his sudden presence next to her shocking but she accepted it nevertheless. Amber and Garnet returned their gaze to Nina who was still frozen in shock.
“Give him some time, it’s a lot to process…he’s a Angel who is considered the lowest of ranks, a human angel, being mated to a demon isn’t going to be of any help to him, it’ll only frustrate him” Amber soothed and Nina nodded taking a shape of bird and instantly fly into the sky and straight up the mountain where their hideout was situated.
“It must be really hard for both of them” Garnet commented and Amber sighed in response before resuming their work.
“Is it just me or the sky is darkening? It’s going to rain isn’t it?” Hematite voiced loudly so they could make out what she wanted to say at regardless of the distance between them.
“I mean the sky was crystal clear a while ago and all of a sudden it’s darkening, it’s going to rain no doubt, we should quickly catch a bus, it’s down that way” Hematite added right before she turned back to see the others staring strangely at the sky.
“I don’t think the divine is doing this” Garnet said before spreading his wings and leaping into the sky.
“We won’t make it….we have to fly now” Garnet said flying back to the ground to grab Dylan while other also let out their wings while instantly following suite. They flied as fast as they could until they saw a bus, they instantly landed and rushed into the moving bus.
“Where do you all materialized from?” An old woman sitting close to the window gasped out in shock while the driver turned briefly to see the group that just entered the bus.
“Kids these days, strong and energetic” The older man driving the bus chuckled while others smile. For a minute, the group was trying to calm down, as they had raced to catch the once in a while bus that passes down the forest since there was few manual workers in the area. They managed to fit into the scattered empty seats around.
“What’s up with this sudden downpour?” The driver who was in his late 50’s complained as the rain continue to fall heavily.
“God and his wonders, the sky was very clear few minutes ago, now the sky is as black as night, didn’t the weather forecast reporter claimed it was going to be sunny today” A plump black woman with short curly hair that was sitting close to the window spoke.
“Yeah and that’s why I didn’t bring my umbrella with me” A guy at the end of the bus seat hissed with distaste.
“Where are you kids going? Any of have an umbrella?” The driver asked from the front seat while glancing at them through the front mirror.
“We are going to the closest supermarket around, want to do some grocery shopping” Amber nicely and politely responded, something she learned from living with Helen in the human realm for a while.
“Okay, that isn’t too far from here” The driver muttered.
Dylan after yelling at Nina felt terrible, it wasn’t her fault that she was gifted with a loser for a mate but he just…he just wanted to be free from demons. He thought recalling his ex-girlfriend who was also a demon and was in love with him.
She had compelled him to hurt Helen, something Dylan doubt she’s ever going to forgive, she loved him, and she wanted to be with him but Ashley had made him hurt her terribly and even though it wasn’t really his fault he still carried that guilt and that was one of the reasons he couldn’t stop loving her.
“Hey” Amber left the seat next to Garnet and joined his.
“Hey” Dylan croaked while trying to hide his quavering voice. Amber sighed watching him trying to hide his pain but decided to stop him by voicing out.
“You should stop hiding your pain Dylan”
“I died, I was dead you know-
“I wouldn’t call that death you know, you were only unconscious. You weren’t actually dead you know” Amber reminded. After Helen went back to the human realm to search for her friends, the queen had reminded the time in large scale in an attempt to fulfill the princess wish that had led to a major disaster. That major disaster being Vera itself. It was that time the princess had sought Dylan out, they figured one crazy scientist had him and was harvesting his blood to collect it’s healing properties, the memory alone made Amber cringe.
“The thing is, you cannot keep judging yourself for your past mistakes, it wasn’t your fault” Amber spoke while softly patting his back. Dylan looked into her eyes and wished that was actually true, he felt responsible for everything that had ever happened to him though.
“And I think the princess likes you…you were her first love, but a mates love will always be greater and stronger because the divine designed it that way, so you have to give yourself a chance of love so perfect as well, Nina…she will love you-
“You don’t understand” Dylan cut in sharply. “You have no idea how hard it is going to be for-
“You have to stop thinking of the princess Dylan, she’s happy with her mate, give yourself a chance of happiness as well” Amber interjected and Dylan sighed looking back as the bus pulled over at the first bus terminal.bus terminal” The driver apologized while everyone just mumbled their complaints as they slowly climbed out of the bus and race to the nearest shade.
“The supermarket is at the far end, we should be able to make it” Dylan shouted over the rain while others raced behind him towards the grocery store which was not so far from them.
“Could the princess be responsible for such heavy rain?” Hematite questioned and she squeezed water out of her dress.
“I have no freaking idea” Garnet frowned while dusting off the water on his leather jacket one which he was very glad he took with him as he existed the house. Dylan removed his jacket shook off the water and wore it back. He walked into the shop where the shopkeeper had been staring st
“I’m afraid this is where we’ll be stopping, the rain is extremely heavy would have moved to the last strangely at them before she grabbed a basket while flashing the fat woman a smile.
“I haven’t being here in a very long time” Amber smiled staring at the retail shelving, which was had the groceries neatly arranged on them.
“Well, that’s because anytime we are in the supermarket we always draw demons to us, I miss the time when they used to scamper away in fear and run whenever they pick our auras, now…they always run towards us all in the name of killing us and sending our heads to their godforsaken queen” Garnet spitefully spat only to notice the weird long stare of the shopkeeper.
“Sorry, just practising for a movie” Garnet forced the obese woman a smile before walking past her and down the shop aisle to join Dylan in his shopping.
“Why are we not invincible? Why do we have to shop visibly?” Hematite questioned joining Amber in another section.
“Well, because we don’t always have to be weird” Dylan muttered under his breath shoving into his basket the last piece of grocery he was getting which was…some vegetables.
“Ring me up please” Dylan announced after dumping the basket in front of the retailer.
“That’s $500” The woman lazily calculated while slowly packing up his stuffs.
“Here” Dylan offered his card and it was immediately accepted.
“Guys, let’s go” Dylan declared but all of them seems to be busy.
“Guys come on-
“It’s still pouring out there; relax Dylan” Amber slurred while waving Dylan off but then something strange happened.
“What’s that smell?” Hematite was the first to look outside. They were shocked to see the huge numbers of demons who were all outside the grocery store waiting for them to come out.
“Holy cow” Dylan muttered while others moved to the glass window to see just how many demons they had drawn towards the place.
“We are likely to level this place to the ground if we fight here…there’s a human, she could be injured. We have to get out of here” Garnet suggested while cracking his knuckles.
“What exactly would you have us do…are your number blind, can’t you see we are outnumbered?” Hematite frowned as they all stared back at the demons situated outside.
“We can’t let them-” A shrieked from the back made them all turn.
“Holy s**t!!” Dylan cursed again to see the gigantic obese woman who seem to have octopus feet. One of the tentacles sent them outside but left Dylan outside.
“You look too juicy to be turn apart” The woman growled and Dylan whimpered. One of her tentacles slowly wrapped around him while he slowly brought him up to face her but the imprint on him started to glow.
“A royal mate?” The demon woman questioned while using one of her tiny tentacles in her hand to move away the shirt that covered the mark.
“A demon royal mated…are you even an angel?” The woman growled while her mouth expands every time she speaks.
“I thought all the royal demon died-
“Not me” Nina smiled after walking into the store soaking wet.
“Put my mate down” She commanded while her eyes glowed toilet as she slowly start to enlarge herself taking the woman’s shape and pushing away most of the shelves, baskets and everything that was around her so it could contain her size. The terrified expression of the fat woman’s face had Dylan sighing but she started to strangle him.
“Without him…you’re nothing” The woman cackled while squeezing Dylan, from the corner of her eyes she saw Garnet and Amber fighting the crowd outside. Nina screeched lashed three tentacles at the woman but she only made her squeeze Dylan even harder earning a loud groan from him.
“Let him go” Nina instantly changed shape to another terrifying demon with spikes in her hand, she didn’t have a face and her body was full of spikes, her long hand struck the woman so fast that it cut her in two equal halves. The tentacles on Dylan loosened and he fell with a soft thud, Nina assumed her original form and rushed towards Dylan.
“Are you okay?” She inquired checking him all over after she successfully brought him up. Dylan was still nub, he still couldn’t explain what just happened. Demon gave him a smile and walked out of the store.
“Enough!” She shelled and Dylan felt the mark sting as it glowed brighter. The demons who had now overpowered Garnet, Amber and Hematite were compelled to fall to their knees after Nina's command. Their eyes trailed past her to Dylan whose mark was still glowing brightly.
“The royal mate” The demons muttered.
