Layla’s P.O.V
I have never been as glad to have a shift end as this one. I was a little shaken up from what happened with that guy, thankful that Miles was there to help me out. I am not usually spoked easily but there was something about that guy that got to me. Everyone was away, Miles and I left again to lock up.
“You want me to walk you to your car?” He asked as we finished up.
“Are you in any rush to get home?” I asked him
“No, why?” he asked confused
“There is no point me going home, need time to wind down a little especially after what happened. Was wondering if maybe you wanna go grab a warm drink at one of the twenty-four diners? If not, it is OK.” I said
“Yeah, I can do that, wanna go in my car then can bring you back when we are done to get yours, save us taking two?” He said
“That makes more sense.” I smiled.
He led me over to where his car was, opening the door for me, letting me get in first before running around and climbing in himself.
“Which one you want to go to?” He asked
“I don’t mind, whichever one is closer.” I smiled.
He nodded, starting the car and we headed to the dinner, stopping at Bob’s diner.
“Will your boyfriend not be wondering where you are?” He asked
“He will be sleeping; he is up at six for his work,” I said
“Oh right, how do you even get to see each other with the shifts you both do?” he asked.
“Honestly, we don’t see each other much, not as much as we should but it can’t be helped, just how life is sometimes I guess.” I shrugged.
“That must suck.” He said
“Sometimes, yes,” I said.
I think after a while you get used to it; it is all you can do. Part of being adults. A silence was present the rest of the drive, not an uncomfortable one though, the diner was only ten minutes away anyway. We pulled up outside, finding a parking place, was quiet at this time since it was the early hours of the morning. Miles placed his hand on the small of my back as he came up beside, a touch that made me shiver a little and we headed inside, grabbing a seat. There was only another two people in, plus two staff. We grabbed a booth next to the window, sitting across from each other.
“How are you doing?” He asked
“I am OK now, thanks again by the way.” I smiled
“I got you.” He said smiling.
The waitress came over, to take our orders and I realised I was hungry too.
“You wanna share a pizza and fries?” I asked looking at him.
“Sure, as long as it is cheese pizza and curly fries?” he laughed
“That is fine with me,” I giggled.
We gave the waitress our food order plus our drink orders. She headed off, leaving us alone again. Miles was sitting back against the seat, looking at me strangely.
“Dude quit looking at me like that.” I laughed
“Like what?” he smirked
“Like you are thinking things about me you shouldn’t be, I can see the look on your eyes.” I giggled.
I knew what was going on in the head of his, He hasn’t tried to hide at all that he is attracted to me. He smirked, shrugging and not even trying to deny that what I was saying was the truth. I shook my head, rolling my eyes at him.
“You aren’t even gonna try to deny it?” I asked
“No, why would I do that? I think I have made it clear since we met that I was attracted to you. At least I am honest enough to admit it, unlike you.” He said matter-of-factly.
What does that mean, unlike me? I looked at him, raising my brow and waited for him to go into more detail on what he meant by that.
“Come on Layla I know you are attracted to me too.” He said, “We are adults, it is ok, to be honest about these things.” He added.
What part of I have a boyfriend can’t he get is head around? It doesn’t matter if I am or am not attracted to him. Who am I kidding? Of course, I am attracted to him but that doesn’t mean I am gonna do anything about it.
“Either way what does it matter? I have a boyfriend REMEMBER!” I said
“I will take that as a yes, you are attracted to me.” He smirked.
I have never been as thankful to see coffee coming my way.
“Your food will be with you soon.” The waitress smiled, setting our drinks down for us.
I thanked her before she headed off again, leaving me with Miles, a part of me hoping he doesn’t want to continue our conversation. I grabbed my mug, taking a drink and looking at everywhere that wasn’t him.
“You just gonna ignore me now?” he chuckled.
“Hmm, don’t know what you mean,” I said shrugging looking at him.
He rested his elbows on the table, smirking at me. I would love to wipe that smirk off his face! But he does look like he has very nice lips, very kissable ones. No! I am not going down that road, not happening!
“Does being attracted to me get to you that much?” He asked, “You worried you won’t be able to keep fighting it?” he added.
“No, I am not worried because I am not that type of person,” I said firmly
“But you have thought about it?” He said.
“I am not getting into this with you Miles,” I said shaking my head.
“Ok, I will stop…” He chuckled.
Yeah for how long? Ten minutes? We will see won’t we, maybe this wasn’t such a good idea, me inviting him to join me.
“You on tomorrow?” he asked me
“Yes, split shift…Ten to four then seven to three. You?” I asked.
I was sort of hoping he wasn’t working with me tomorrow, then again there is never a dull moment at work when he is around.
“I am six to three, looks like we will be working together again tomorrow night.” He said smirking.
Or maybe I will call in sick? No that wouldn’t work since I am the bar manager now, would it? Plus, I don’t call in sick EVER! Unless I am that sick, that I can’t get out of bed which doesn’t happen very often.
“It would seem so, maybe try to behave yourself?” I said, raising my brow at him.
“Can’t make any promises…” He said shrugging.
I wonder does he know how to behave. Is he always like this with women or just me? I guess time will tell me that, won’t it? I just wanted the food to hurry up now, that way I can eat and get home, away from him for a bit. I had a gut feeling that he is gonna be trouble for me.
