23 I told them everything—everything I could remember, at least. That included things I didn’t even know I remembered. Dr. Mayer corrected me about one thing right away: what I had wasn’t a case of reincarnation, but resurrection, which is apparently a totally separate deal. Resurrection is dying and coming back to life in your own body (“Like Jesus and Lazarus,” Mrs. Mayer said, which felt a little odd to be compared to). Reincarnation, on the other hand, is about dying and coming back in a new body and a new life. It’s exactly what the woman in the gray space was trying to tell me about why I couldn’t win a new body—not that I wanted one—in what Dr. Mayer decided to call “Life Poker.” They’d never heard of that before—I guess I’m the first person they’ve talked to who’s brought it up.
