Chapter 4: Thaniel

1070 Words
I groaned and leaned back in my armchair with a glass of whiskey in my hand, running my other hand through my hair. f**k, what did I do? Why did I do that? She was a f*****g human, not some Omega. I was supposed to be with a damn Omega, not her! "Thaniel, you dumbass!" I sighed as I heard my best friend walk into the room again. I didn't have time for this s**t. I slowly swiveled my chair around to peer at him with my ankle on my thigh, bringing my glass to my lips. "For f**k's sake. What do you want from me now? I went to your little party, now leave me be." I took a long... sip from the glass, feeling it burn my chest. "You saved a damn mortal from Chris! What do you mean, what do I want from you? I want f*****g answers, man!" He waved his hand through the air with his stance wide. "The f**k, dude!" I growled and stood up, downing my glass, and walking over to uncork my whiskey bottle with my teeth to pour another glass. "Don't pretend like I didn't see you practically f*****g claim her against the damn motherfuckin' wall, man!" His voice was incredibly annoying and only making my headache worse. "Shouldn't you be home railing your girl or something?" I shot back, bringing my cup to my lips. Suddenly he ripped my cup from my hands and threw it into the fire that I had started up again. I sighed and growled low from my chest, glaring at him with my arms crossed over my chest. "I was drinking that." I snarled at my best friend and widened my stance. "Don't you have something better to do than to pester me?" "Don't you have better taste than a damn mortal? I saw how you treated her!" I slammed my fist down on my mantle and roared at him, flashing my fangs, and making him shut up. That was more like it. Silence. "I wasn't going to let someone-" I stepped closer to my best friend and jabbed my index finger towards the ground. "-that you told me was past it, f*****g injure and rape a f*****g woman!" "He wasn't going to rape her and she's a f*****g human! A human, man!" Daniel shouted back at me, growling, and getting in my face. "Boys!" There she was, his f*****g girl, coming to save his ass before I ripped it to shreds for being so stupid. I get it. I can't have relations with a damn human, but jesus did he have to be such an asshole about it. I didn't care she was human. Christian was being a d**k with her, and I wouldn't stand for it. "Dan, go home! Thaniel! I need a word!" Evie held her hand out and wiggled her damn index finger at me like I was a damn dog. "You gonna tell me to f*****g sit too?" I seethed at her as my nostrils flared and anger boiled through my veins. "Do I really need to do that to ya?" Evie placed her hands on her hips and glared at me. "Do you really need to f*****g talk to me right now? I came home to relax, not f*****g talk like you're some shrink or some shit." I pinched the bridge of my nose and sighed. "The girl. We need to talk about the girl at the club." Evie crossed her arms and raised an eyebrow at me. "We don't run with humans. Why did you save the prey?" "Eve, she was a damn woman in trouble. You think I'm gonna let an asshole like Chris f**k her over like the others? Why don't you go bark at him? He's the jerk that had a damn human in the first place! Not me!" I waved my hand through the air as I got more infuriated. Why are they coming after me when it was damn Christian that had the f*****g woman at his side on a damn leash like some b***h? I was so confused as to why I mattered over him. "Yeah, but we expected it out of him. Not you! You're the damn main Alpha of this pack! Christian just wishes he was." Evie rolled her eyes and sighed, walking up to me. She placed her hands on my forearms and shook them. I swallowed hard, not wanting to hear what she had to say because I already knew what was about to come out of her pretty lips. "When are you going to settle down with an Omega, hm?" Evie reached up to brush my messy hair to the side. "I already told you guys. I'm not settling down anytime soon. I won't mate." I growled and pulled away from her. "Just- leave me be." I was so tired of being asked when I was going to raise a couple of pups. When I was going to find a mate and settle down when I honestly didn't have an answer for that. I didn't give a f**k to be honest, and this human girl only confused me more. I honestly didn't know why I had protected her. Why I had sniffed her like I wanted her, and why I had growled and gone primal around her. She was a human. What we called a prey. I wasn't supposed to want a prey. I was not only an Alpha but a predator, and I wasn't allowed to have feelings for something I was supposed to catch. That's why it was taboo. Prey were not there to mate with. Prey were there to be food. It was no longer in practice, but back centuries ago our kind fed on humans. Sacrificed them to Selene, our Goddess, to make her happy and to keep bad tidings away from our pack. But long gone were the sacrifices of prey. Now, it was just written and an unspoken rule to not pair with a human. A human could not be a chosen and so, she could never be mine. I didn't even know her name. Not until I heard Evie speak it. "Her name is Amy, if you're wondering." My back bristled as I heard the heavy front doors of my home shut and the name repeated in my head like a f*****g annoying mantra. Amy. Amy. Amy. Amy. Amy. Amy...
