Lexi followed the Alpha to the bottom of the stairs of the mansion. The marble floor looked pristine; she could only look down so it was the only thing she noticed. Lexi didn’t know how she managed to leave the office on her own two feet.
"Stay here for a second. I need to collect your room key from the kitchen". Lexi didn't raise her head. She couldn’t even if she tried. Ryan strode off.
Natalie walked down from the upper floors. “Oh. Goddess. You're everywhere. Useless human”. She muttered. Lexi hadn't even acknowledge her presence until the blonde stood in front of her clicking her fingers right in Lexi's face.
“Oh. Sorry. I didn’t....” Lexi sighed. She didn’t mean to be rude, she was just hurting, this wasn’t Natalie’s fault, Lexi acknowledged that Natalie was just as much a victim of the bond as Lexi. Right now she wanted to crawl into a dark hole and never come out. She needed to try to be civil. This was her home until the foreseeable and make the Luna may be the only one to help her escape. “Sorry Natalie. I was a million miles away”. She tried her hardest to smile.
“Look here”. Natalie painfully shoved a pointed finger into Lexi’s chest. “It’s Luna to you. I don’t care if you're his fated mate. You speak to me, call my name or even look in my direction. I will rip your throat out. I don't know why he’s keeping you alive in the first place but I won’t hesitate to kill you if you even think of giving my Alpha the side eye. I will play ball for now but not forever”.
Lexi was speechless. She really didn’t want to offend the she wolf. Lexi started to tremble in fear. She lowered her eyes, her hair curtained her face. This was just the beginning. Natalie kept on walking, dropping her shoulder slightly and knocked Lexi to the ground.
Lexi automatically cowered, wrapped her arms around her knees and tried to curve into a small ball. A position that she mastered in her cell when she heard the keys jingle in the lock and she knew the monster was back. The ground was cold but Lexi closed her eyes and wished she was far away. She tried to teleport herself to one of the fairy kingdoms she had once read about in her books as a child, adding her own personal touches. She had imagined it would be warm in her fairy tale kingdom, the sun would always be kissing her face, making her glow. Instead of being trapped she imagined she was in an open meadow, daisy flowers growing all around, bird would be chirping and little animals scurrying. She would sit for hours in that meadow making daisy chains to drape around her neck or crowns for her hair. Then the monster would come, the skies would turn grey, the daisys would wilt and the grass would die. The meadow would fade. Every time she would try to go back to her fairy tale kingdom meadow when her monster was in the room but the pain dragged her back to reality.
“Lexi. Why are you on the floor?” She hated herself for being in love with him. She looked up into his moss green eyes. She needed to start to fight but the feeling of being inadequacy left her momentarily paralysed.
“You chose her”. It was a mumble, not even the werewolf could her. “It has to get better than this, right? This wasn’t it, was it?” Lexi wasn’t making any sense, she had slipped into her own silent hysteria. “He’s not going to save you, no is. If I died tomorrow, no one would even miss me.” Lexi had even wondering if anyone would notice, she didn’t even think Ryan would he done such a good job of ignoring the bond. Then Natalie’s word echoes ‘useless human’, it irked her. It even angered her. These people just decided to do what they wanted. Decided her fate. She had no say in the matter. They had pushed her back into a cell. Fury gripped her. Why was she making it so easy for them.
“I will spend the rest of my days trying to run. Trying to break free. Trying to get away from you”. Lexi felt her nails dig into her legs. The fear she once felt dissolved and even if it was his strength given to her through the bond, she utilised every last once.
“You'll never escape Lexi”. Ryan looked down, guilt on his face but Lexi was blinded by her hatred for the bond. She rose to her feet.
“Then I will fight you all the way”. Just like that Lexi turned to try and to run, not even getting to the front door that is barely a few feet away from the office when a large arm is wrapped around her waist. Ryan growled and pulled her into his chest. Thrashing and kicking out, Lexi attempted to break free which was futile. Screaming inches away from his nose and letting the tears fall, she wanted this to end.
“You need to calm down. I don’t want to hurt you”. Lexi continued to scream and scream, all her pent up frustration leaving her body. Pleading for him to let her go. Ryan pulled her into him and there her over his shoulder, ascending the stairs. Lexi didn’t let up. She screamed with her eyes tightly shut. She thrashed her body all the way to the top floor, where Ryan placed her down on her feet; she stopped the screaming mainly due to her throat only allowing her to give off hoarse squeaks. Opening her eyes she looked up, a glass skyline gave an impressive view of the bright stars. It is beautiful.
Lexi looked around, on one side of the top floor was all open with bay windows letting the sun shine in a lounge with a huge tv. The other half of the floor was taken up by what Lexi presumed were bedrooms, one particular room had a set of double doors. She guessed that its Ryan's bedroom. Pain stabbed at her like a sharp blade as she imagined him and his Luna sharing that room. Sleeping together. Having s*x. Ryan had stopped to study the angry face of his fated mate.
“What were you thinking about”. Lexi was fed up of feeling so weak. She would never tell Ryan the truth.
“Just think of how much I hate” love her mind screamed “you”. She looked away, back to the double doors, reminding herself that he chose another.
Ryan was hurt, much more than he let on. He shook it away and then thought, just for a second, that Lexi deserved to be angry. Then he convinced himself that he was doing this to protect her. “follow me”. Lexi dragged her feet to the open lounge. “You don’t want me to throw you over my shoulder again do you?” Lexi’s whole body screamed yes. She rolled her eyes and reluctantly followed the Alpha. Ryan was disappointed that she did follow, he wanted to throw her over her shoulder, any touch. They started towards the opposite side of the floor to the double doors. Again, Lexi rolled her eyes, the Alpha catching her. “You roll your eyes again, I may throw you over my shoulder and s***k that ass”.
Lexi’s feet stopped dead. Her brain was trying to decipher the mixed messages. Ryan being a hot and cold tap. He was a d**k. How could he flirt with her when he had chosen another? She looked at him stop at the last white door.
Ryan unlocked the door, “This is our room”.
