Chapter 2 "Y-Your Highnesses, Prince Alistair, Prince Alejandro..." I stepped back, smiling wryly before curtsying, feeling like wanting to pass out upon knowing that it was really them. I could feel my head pounding with undeniable skipping fast beats of my heart since I did not expect they were the ones I had to encounter. And my hands and forehead were sweating profusely. "I-I was talking about this wall," I added, trying to calm myself by caressing the surface of the nearby wall beside me, chuckling nervously. "Is it?" Prince Alejandro arched his eyebrow and draped his hand on Prince Alistair's shoulder. "That is not what we heard earlier. Right, Ali?" His sheepish grin was enough for me to dig my grave now. "Indeed, Ale." He shook his head while the corner of his lips curled into a lopsided smile. "So?" he teased. Just before I could even answer them, I found myself bolting away from their direction. I heard them calling my attention, but I knew I was fast as a lightning bolt about to strike the ground. Upon my arrival at my dormitory, I could feel my heart race so fast, as if I was being hunted by a predator, before embedding my face in my pillow to emancipate the distress, muffling my squealing voice. Why did I run? I wasn't entirely sure, but the memory of my past shame had me in its grip. "s**t! s**t! s**t!" I shrieked to my pillow one more time. They were the last people I would ever want to meet! Of all people that I had to meet at this moment, why them?! My last encounter with them had brought so much humiliation on my part that I couldn't find myself facing them again. I had never wanted to meet them again and tried so hard to avoid these twin lycan princes. I should not have requested such a frivolous idea from His Highnesses! I should not have let Lady Ivory's words get to my head! A year passed, and I still couldn't forget that day... Damn it! I already forgot that it happened, but it was hard to forget them every time I saw them. I silently wished I would never meet them individually. I did not want it to happen like it did earlier. I did not know how to face them if that happened or if they still remembered me... But it would be unavoidable now that I was going to attend the ball party the student body organization assembled, and it would be held one day before the festival's last day. At least, for the rest of the days, I could stroll around a bit and rest before dosing myself to study lavishly. To distract myself, I decided to go to the city square on that night. The grounds transformed into a bustling fair filled with food vendors, game stalls, and various performances. I strolled around the booths, trying different delicacies and games while enjoying the lively atmosphere. I even stumbled upon a small group of people performing a traditional dance of our kingdom, their movements graceful and captivating. It astonished me before I turned my head when someone tapped my shoulder, making me jumpy and gasp upon knowing who it was. "Lady Lalisa...?" I fluttered my eyelids and did not expect to meet one of my class fellows here. Lady Lalisa smiled and winked. "And Jameson..." She nudged someone behind her. I simply nodded at Lord Jameson, her mate, when he greeted me as I greeted him back. "I cannot believe I will stumble across the two of you, Lady Lalisa, Lord Jameson. Have you finished studying?" I knew that asking that might ruin the mood, but they laughed while shaking their heads. "We still have weekends left, so we still have ample time," Lord Jameson reasoned while his hand intertwined with Lady Lalisa's. "Jameson is right." Her agreement with his statement fused me with a small smile, making me feel envy that they found each other in perfect timing. "How about you, Lady Czerie? How are you doing these days?" she asked as we swam to get to the shore of less crowds. "You won't believe what happened to me..." A guttural sound barked from my mouth as I told them I had to meet the deadlines for the written reports. I enjoyed their company by having tea with them and bidding farewell as they looked forward to seeing me at the ball. I was still uncertain if I would come, but I wouldn't want to miss the main event that happened once a year. As much as I did not want to attend the ball party to shun myself away from the twins, I had to since it was part of our scholarship that we must attend every event in our academy. The night of the ball party had arrived, and everyone was hustling and bustling left and right, preparing their outfit for tonight. I watched Lady Tamara, my roommate, gritting her teeth in annoyance. "That damn asshole! He better brings me some flowers, or I will reject our mate bond!" I smiled wryly, watching her erupting like a volcano as she was talking about her mate. She was already well-dressed but felt agitated since she was expecting an extravagant surprise from Lord Elijah. "Lady Czerie, how do I look?" she asked, making me eyeing her from head to toe. "You look good in that dress. It really matches your skin tone and gives you a glow." I even clasped my hands to emphasize my words as she looked beautiful, wearing a blue dress with decorated laces on her sleeves and atop her petticoat and black trimmings, and her blonde hair was pulled into a tight bun with a decorated ornament pinned on her hair. Lady Tamara's eyes widened, and the corners of her mouth curled upward into a wide smile, lighting up her entire face. "Now, I am at ease," she said proudly. Then she looked at me down to my hair. "I think you are lacking something." "Huh? Is there something wrong with my hair?" I slightly tilted my head, looking into my reflection as my fingertips gently brushed my auburn hair that I styled into a chignon. "You need a hair ornament." I flinched when Lady Tamara was behind me as she waved in the reflection, the butterfly hair clip embellished with rhinestones. "You need to flaunt your auburn hair, Lady Czerie," she said while clipping it and breathed a relieved sigh, looking satisfied. "There..." She made me slightly turn my head so I could see it better. My mouth opened in awe, pertaining that she was right. The hair clip added a certain charm to my auburn locks that I had never seen before. It complemented my hair's natural hue, sparkling in the light like tiny stars in the night sky. I ran my fingers through my hair, admiring how it caught the light and brought out the richness of my hair color. "Thank you, Lady Tamara," I said, feeling a newfound confidence I had never felt before. Lady Tamara smiled at me, pleased with the transformation she had brought about. "You are most welcome, Lady Czerie," she replied. "You have natural beauty, but a little embellishment never hurts." I nodded, feeling grateful for Lady Tamara's advice. Looking at myself in the mirror, I couldn't help but feel excited to show off my new look. It would be nice to blend my peers and class fellows later since I had been looking forward to this year. This was the second time that I would be attending since I had been studying here at the royal academy for three years. My first year arriving here had me need to accustom myself here, pushing myself to my limits. However, Alpha Orlando told me I must try loosening up a little and enjoy my life here as a student. I took his advice to heart and promised myself to have fun tonight. As Lady Tamara and I made our way to the assembly hall, the excitement in the air was palpable. The hall was already filled with students, professors, and other esteemed guests, all dressed in their best attire. The decorations were stunning, with colorful ribbons and flowers adorning every corner of the room. The music was already playing, and couples were already swaying to the rhythm of the waltz. As we walked around the room, greeting friends and acquaintances, I noticed the presence of the Twin Garnets and Prince Atticus swarmed by noble ladies, discerning that they were getting interrogated. I smiled wryly, looking away when my eyes darted at the Twin Garnets, not wanting to remember what happened a few days ago. But their appearance was hard to ignore. Prince Alistair and Prince Alejandro were both tall and handsome, with chiseled features and sharp jawlines. They wore matching black tuxedos with white shirts and black bow ties. Their hair was slicked back, and they had a certain air of confidence that made them stand out from the crowd. Prince Atticus, their younger brother, was dressed in a more casual but still elegant outfit. He wore a navy blue blazer, white shirt, and black dress pants. His hair was styled into a messy quiff, giving him a charming and playful look. Despite being the youngest, he had a certain charisma that drew people to him. Overall, the three princes were dressed to impress and were clearly enjoying the attention they were getting from the ladies. Just as I averted my gaze from them, the man standing beside the brothers caught my attention. He had a good-looking facial structure, chiseled cheekbones, and a sharp jawline. Long, dark lashes framed his forest-green eyes, and his eyebrows were perfectly arched. He had a straight nose and full lips that were slightly parted, revealing a row of pearly white teeth. His dark brown hair was styled neatly, combed back from his forehead, and left to fall naturally over his ears. The man wore a well-tailored black suit that hugged his broad shoulders and emphasized his muscular frame. He carried himself with confidence, his movements smooth and effortless. He gave me a small smile as he caught my eye, and I felt a flutter in my chest. Something about him drew me in, something magnetic and irresistible. I couldn't take my eyes off him, and as he turned to speak to the brothers, I felt a pang of disappointment that he was no longer looking at me. My attention on him was interrupted when the Twin Garnets suddenly made a noise. I caught them smiling sheepishly as if something had heeded their interest. Hairs on my back stood up since I was well familiar with that kind of behavior from them. Their friskiness right now... Did this mean... "Everyone!" the Twin Garnets said in unison as they clapped their hands to gather our attention. The twins always succeeded in capturing the crowds' attention. Feeling my heart blitzed was enough to know they were about to do something... drastic. I even saw Prince Atticus shake his head, looking like he was not liking what they were doing. "Now..." they paused. Our attention was taken into account as their biggest grins infused their plump lips when their foot reached the platform. "Shall we try a little game of matchmaking? Our first target for tonight is our cousin, Alfonso de Carteret," they said mischievously.
