THREADS OF TIME

ACT 1 SCENE 3

ROSELINE : what are you doing ? ( checks behind the door ) Have you eaten ?

LUCY : ( she looks at her mother in confusion wondering whether or not she had seen Luke ) no - no not yet

ROSELINE : when did you get back

LUCY : almost an hour ago

ROSELINE : and you're still in your uniform

LUCY : I was just about to change

ROSELINE : okay hurry up and come down we bought take out ( she leaves )

LUCY : ( locks the door ) okay what the hell just happened ? ( notices their hands are together , she retracts hers ) What just happened )

LUKE : I didn't think it'll work ( he exhales heavily )

LUCY : what are you talking about ?

LUKE : ( shows her a bracelet on his wrist with a waterdrop pendant similar to the one on the necklace ) another power source , when both are put together it creates an effect that makes the time travelled glitch until they are separated , I wanted to see if it'll work by holding hands

LUCY : whoa

LUKE : so you believe me now

LUCY : a little , now back to Martin I can convince him to let you stay with him until we figure this out besides it's close so you won't be popping back here

LUKE : is he complicated ?

LUCY : whether he is complicated or not you'll have to deal with it right now he's the only solution so take my hand

LUKE : why ?

LUCY : so you can disappear and I can get you out of here i***t

LUKE : oh

LUCY : yeah

LUKE : and for the record it's not disappearing it's more like a glitch that makes you go invisible ( she gives him an " are you serious right now " look ) okay let's go ( he holds her hand )

LUCY : I can still see you

LUKE : that's because you're with the necklace remember

LUCY : oh

LUKE : yeah ( they sneak outside and still holding hands ring Martin's doorbell )

SHARON : ( Martin's younger sister opens the door ) Lucy !! ( she smiles brightly )

LUCY : Sharon ! ( they high five ) Where's Martin

SHARON : in his room , I think he's taking a shower

LUCY : okay thanks ( they go upstairs and she barges into Martin's room , Martin only has a towel tied around his waist and another one in his hand for drying his hair ) hey ( she says casually )

MARTIN : hey ( he sits on his bed )

LUKE : ( his eyes widen in surprise ) is 2023 a year where girls walk in on half n***d guys and find it normal )

LUCY : shut up ( she whispers sternly )

LUKE : it's weird

LUCY : I said shut up

MARTIN : what ?

LUCY : Nothing ... Something okay I'm about to tell you something but promise not to freak out

MARTIN : it depends on what it is

LUCY : okay you remember that person I told you I saw got killed today

MARTIN : you mean the drama you were acting

LUCY : okay since you don't believe me I'll show you this way ( she lets go of Luke's hand and he becomes visible )

LUKE : hi I'm Luke

MARTIN : blood of Jesus ( he stands up panicking ) Jesus , Jesus Christ of Nazareth

( The door flings open but just before it does Lucy grabs Luke's hand making him invisible )

SHARON : what happened ? ( she looks alarmed )

LUCY : ( smiles widely ) don't mind him I was just lying to him that I saw kizz Daniel and he thought it was true

SHARON : ( rolls her eyes at Martin before hissing and leaving the room )

MARTIN : Lucy what in God's name was that ?

LUCY ; I'll try my best to explain but first you've got to get dressed , I don't want your towel flying off in all this shock

( he slowly walks to his wardrobe , carries a shirt and shorts and walks into the bathroom , by the time he returns he sees Luke laying face up on his bed and Lucy sitting on the couch )

MARTIN : Lucy ( he calls her while staring at Luke )

LUCY : eh

MARTIN : Lucy

LUCY : eh

MARTIN : what's that on my bed ?

LUCY : a person

MARTIN : how Na ? ( he looks at her in shock ) A person how ?

LUCY : shut up and let me explain things the way I can ( she stands up and goes to lock the door )

MARTIN : why are you looking the door Na ? ( he asks worriedly )

LUCY : abeg you sef calm down

MARTIN : okay

LUCY : can you sit down now ?

MARTIN : no - no don't worry I'm fine right here ( he says leaning on the door )

LUCY : okay do you remember when I told you about the guy that got killed ?

MARTIN : right now I think it's worth believing

LUCY : so he gave me this amulet necklace thing ( she shows him the necklace ) so when I got home I thought it went pretty well with the dress I want to wear for the party coming up so I put it on and

MARTIN : you put it on ( he shakes his head ) a random gave you something and you put it on ( he folds his hands ) continue

LUCY ; yes I know it was a very stupid thing to do but I did it anyway I put it on and boom this guy named like appears ( she points at Luke who waves at Martin who looks terrified ) and the freaking thing won't come off and if he goes far away from me he just appears back because for another stupid reason he can't go far away from the necklace ( she takes a deep breath ) and now here's the crazy part , I was wondering if he could stay with you for the night because I for obvious reasons cannot have him at my house and to top it off Linda is coming back and you know how snoopy she is .

MARTIN : ( chuckles ) sorry what ?

LUCY : I said

MARTIN : no Lucy did not hear you well , I was thinking you said I should let a spirit spend the night at my house

LUCY : yes Martin that's what I said

MARTIN : Hana naw Lucy , you want me to let a spirit spend the night at my house , do you want to kill me before my time

LUKE : umm sorry to be interrupt but I'm not a spirit , I'm just a guy from 2019 who

Martin : ( cuts in ) ha Lucy worse he's an olden days spirit

LUKE : okay ( he quietly keeps quiet )

LUCY : Martin please Na , I know it sounds crazy but this is the only option we have and I know you think I'm right

MARTIN : no no Lucy to be honest with you I don't

LUCY : Martin please you have to help me right now I'm terrified, freaked out to the core and scared as hell but it's kind of too late for that because I'm already at the centre of the whole thing and now I'm asking my only best friend in the world , the one I trust to please help me this once ( she says emotionally ) please

MARTIN : Lucy

LUCY : please

MARTIN : ( thinks for a while switching glances from Lucy to Luke , he begins to rub his forehead ) fine I'll help you

LUCY : really ? ( a smile appears on her face )
