The Luna's favorite

He looked so different. His blue eyes which were always friendly were now more fierce. His stubbles were more pronounced and I remembered how he disliked keeping his beards to grow out. He looked more virile than I last remembered. What was more strange about him was the cold look in his eyes as he stared at me. I wasn't used to that. How could I? when he had always been cheerful as we were once best friends? We practically went to the same high school and we were so close. I remembered how nice and friendly he was to me despite being the Alpha's son. After my mother ran away from the pack, leaving me behind, he became my only source of happiness. I remembered how his father, the Alpha would frown at him associating with an Omega because he feared I would teach Lucas my lifestyle of being poor, but Lucas didn't care. From childhood to teenagers, we were tight. I recollected how girls would get jealous of me because I was literally the only girl he wouldn't treat like trash. They didn't know we were nothing but best friends. I didn't have any feelings for him, well maybe a pinch of crush, but that was it. Our friendship began to deteriorate when his father died and he became the Alpha. He knew he had responsibilities to take care of, like the pack and I didn't judge him for that. I remembered how he smiled at me the night of my 18th birthday and wished me the best mate that would treat me right. If only he knew he would be my mate, he wouldn't have wished me that. Our relationship went down the drain when our eyes made contact that night. I was forced to reject him because I feared he didn't want to because he didn't want to hurt my feelings. “These omegas and their clumsy nature” sighed Alpha Jean while I tried to pick up the pieces of glass that had been shattered on the floor. “I must agree" I heard his voice. That deep husky voice sent shivers down my spine. Did he agree with Alpha Jean? He was never like that. He always stood up for me. Now he was doing the exact opposite. “I'm... S... Sorry" I stammered. Even my voice was distorted by fear. I was disorganized as my hand trembled, picking up the pieces. During the process, the glass cut my hand and I gasped. Alpha Jean grew impatient as he tapped his feet on the floor continuously. “You know what, get out!" he snapped at me and I flinched due to how harsh his voice was. "Another maid can attend to that. Your scent is messing up the air here” he said and I swallowed hard, grabbing the tray and standing up. Before leaving the room, I looked behind at Lucas. My heart skipped when I noticed his intense gaze was on me, but I couldn't discern what was going on in his head. As I walked out of the study room with the tray in my hand, I felt like a fool. I walked like the loser I was toward the kitchen. What was he thinking when he saw me? He must hate me for rejecting him or did he simply didn't care because that was what it seemed like? “Hello Anne" I heard my name from a familiar voice and involuntarily, a smile planted on my face. “Hello Luna Leanne," I said to her, and the smile she gave me warmed my heart. She was the only person in the pack who didn't treat me like an omega who didn't matter. She saw me as a person and pretty much stood by me when I needed her. “You are back" “Yeah, but I'd be leaving soon again" My face fell when she said that. “I have to see my husband's Brother, Lucas". I noticed how my heart skipped when I heard her say his name. “You don't have to be sad, I left something for you in the kitchen.“ She said with a smile and I smiled back at her as I watched her walk in the direction I took On getting to the kitchen's entrance, I met Stella and Bianca chuckling as they looked at me while leaving. Something seemed off. I looked at them and I noticed how they kept giggling and looking back at me as their laughter intensified. I shook my head and walked inside the kitchen. Right on the counter was a pie and my instincts immediately told me it was Luna Leanne's gift. She knew of my love for pies and that was why she would always bring them for me from time to time. The other maids were jealous as she had considered me her favorite. They did everything to sabotage the privileges I got including Stella and Bianca. The foil used to wrap the pie had Ben fondled with a bit. I could tell since the pie was opened at the corner. I failed to read any meaning to it since I was eager and also hungry because I had not had anything to eat that day. I ate the pie delightfully and felt more energetic to carry on with my work. Minutes after eating the pie, I felt dizzy. My grip on the scrubber I held got weaker and weaker by the minute until it fell from my hand. It felt as though the whole room spun. I held my head trying to balance myself. I could no longer fight it, I fell to the floor. While I struggled with my strength on the floor, I heard hastened footsteps on the door. Stella and Bianca appeared. I couldn't see them properly but I could discern the smirk Stella had on her face. “The Luna's favorite" she scoffed and Bianca chuckled. “ By the time we get you out of this pack, she won't have you as a favorite anymore” She raised the stick in her hand. My orbs widened and I tried to scream, but my lips failed me. The stick came down forcefully on my head and it all went dark.
