Amara can no longer hold herself after seeing these guys ruining her mother's vegetables. She immediately strike a whip of a water and tangled it with the guys neck and pulled them away from her mother who were protecting the vegetables. How dare them!
She do not know who are these guys. But she is certain that they were members of theives that lives in the bottom of their town. Those Holiesters who are using their abilities in their wrong doings. They were such a headache of the small vendors.
"How dare you!" Gillian shouted. She grabbed the hand of the other man and brought it behind and locked it at the back.
But Amara wasn't really happy after seeing how her mom was struggling to cover all the vegetables. They were forcing her mom to stay out of it and they uses their strength against her. If only her mom fight back because she can. But her mom have already decided to slowly set her powers a-side and forget it at the moment. She wants to live a life that is not relying to the powers that they had.
"W-who the fa-f*ck are y-you?!" The old man yelled stuttering due to the tighteness of the whip that Amara did as she pulled it thru the whip she coiled into the man's neck.
"Who the f*ck are you and why are you ruining my mother's vegetables? Thieves!" She was about to strike another one when her mom immediately succored to stop her. She glanced at her mom and she immediately checked on her, she held her mom's face and look at her mom from head to toe, "mom, are you okay? Are you hurt? Why you didn't fight?"
"Let them go. They were bandits from the bottom of the town and they live their lives by stealing from other Holiesters," her mom explained.
She looked at the man who's still in there laying ijnthe ground tangled in the whip she's still holding. She immediately released and the man and she faced him.
"The next time I see you doing what you did to my mom, I assure you, I will kill you," she warned in a very firm voice. The man used his hand and arm as support to get up, he looked at her before he run away so fast.
"Grandma, are you okay? You could've just stayed in the side grandma."
Amara heard Gillian's voice talking to her grandma.
"Thank you for saving me, Juliet," said Gillian's grandma.
Gillian and Amara glanced towards each other when they heard what did just grandma said.
"Grandma, what happened? Why did those theives came?" Gillian asked her grandma with her eyes narrowed in confusion.
"They asked me to hand them the money I got from the vegetables I sold. They threw the vegetables and they were about to hit me, luckily, Juliet saw me and she immediately protected me. She stand in front of me and she hid me in her behind that is why she was the one who catches the hand of those guys," grandma explain that made Gillian and Amara gritted their teeth in anger.
If only she was a demon nor a bad Holiester, she will probably be ended the life of those criminals.
"Mom, you've been hurt? How are you feeling?" Amara succored her smiling mother. She couldn't believe how her mom still managed to c***k a smile knowing that she was worried like hell.
"Don't worry, I'm fine. They don't punch that hard, it was light as cotton."
She then immediately just went faced palm after hearing those words from her mother. And it seems like, she wouldn't be hearing a real situation from her. And because she know that her mother would never let her feel so she decided to check it herself.
She clenched her jaw when she saw how fractured her mom shoulder's bone. She looked at her mother and it was busy fixing the vegetables in the table. Her mom flinched and almost jump in startle when she put her hand on her shoulder.
"Mom, you don't need to tell me you are okay even if you're not," she said begging with her low tone.
Her mom was about to open her mouth to speak however, she released her power to cure the fractured bone her mother has.
"I didn't know I have fractured bone," she heard her mother said.
Amara sighed and looked at her mom, she knew she was lying. She doesn't just want to worry her and that is why she said she was okay but Amara knew her.
"Mom, you are the only Holiester that I have. We have been together all my life. I know you mom. When you say you're okay even if you are not? I know you're lying. I know when you are lying mom," she said but it only just made her mom chuckled a little.
"Are you okay, Juliet?"
"Are you okay, Aunt Juliet? Thank you for protecting grandma. If you weren't here, I don't know what happened to her. I couldn't lost my grandma, Aunt Juliet that is why I would look it all to you all my life. Thank you so much for your kindness and your bravery. I know that Amara got the braveness in you---"
Gillian's drama moment was interrupted with Amara by slapping the nape of her best friend that caused her to look at her with a dagger in her sight.
"Will you please stop being such a drama Queen?" She hissed only to receive a rolling eyes from her best friend — wtf? She just chose to never mind this b*tch for she doesn't want her mother to witness how crazy the two of them could be, well, she knew her mom and grandma already had an idea. But yeah!
"Are you okay, Maricar?"
Amara and Gillian both turn to see their grandma when they heard Amara's mom's worried voice. They then saw their grandma slowly laying her body in the ground. Gillian immediate handed her grandma to stop her from falling and in just a snap, they are all now inside Amara's house. It was her mom who brought them all here.
"Put your grandma in the couch, Gillian," said Aunt Juliet. Amara helped Gillian to put grandma in there.
She immediately scanned the body of the old woman to check what happened and what is going on wrongly.
She sighed when she saw nothing, grandma was okay and was in need of a good rest.
"Amara, what's wrong? Why did grandma passed out? Is she okay? Is there something wrong? Fractured bones or anything?" asked Gillian in so much worried voice. Amara shoke her head to make her best friend feel the relief like her.
"She's fine, she's just tired, let just grandma sleep so she'll get a good rest," Amara answered.
"Oh gosh! I thought something bad happen to her. I wouldn't know what I am going to do if something wrong is goin' on. I can't live without grandma," said Gillian and her tears came out uninvited. She lift up her head and looked at Amara who was looking at her with a tiny smile.
"Grandma would never leave you. She know that you needed her in your life, she would never let you live the life alone," said Amara that made Gillian shed into tears even more.
Amara opened her arms to enveloped her best friend into a hug. She knew the feelings that Gillian was feeling right at the moment. She was once in her shoes when her mother was the one who was laying in bed looking lifeless of the stupid bandits that once blocked mom on her way to the next town.
The foods was stolen and her mom was beaten. She thought she had lost her mom, she was so ready to make those bandits pay of what they did regardless of where it would have gotten her. Luckily, her mom was okay, she felt relieved. She can't imagine how life she will be getting if her mom was lost.
She can't imagine, if she can live longer thinking that her mom was gone. She understand Gillian's fear now, she had no one, she only have grandma in her family list. How can not she get so much fright seeing her loved one fall in the ground like a beaten tree?
"Gillian, use this to warm her body. Wipe this towel around her body and put this leaf in your grandma's forehead. It will help her, lessen her fever," Amara's mom said putting the basin in their side.
It has warm water inside and a small towel soaked in it.
"What is that huge leaf, mom?" Amara asked, pointing the leaf.
"This is lemara leaf," her mom answered pointing at the leaf in there. "It helps to lessen the fever of a Holiester. Soak this thing in the warm water for not less that 10 seconds before putting it in your grandma's forehead. I'll just have to prepare food for us," her mom said.
"I didn't know grandma has fever, she's not hot," Amara mumbled while putting the leaf in grandma's forehead.
"Aunt Juliet had already checked grandma, maybe she had seen something inside her body that we didn't see," Gillian answered and continue wiping the mini towel around her grandma's skin.
Amara was looking at Gillian intently. Her best friend was so serious and afraid.
********
"Fortunately grandma didn't have any fractured bones because of those thieves," she said.
Gillian sighed and stood up as she put back the towel in the basin and bring it back to the kitchen. Amara seriously looked at her best friend's back. Although, this kingdom was ruled by a powerful King and Queen, a Holiesters themselves, but still, this Kingdom seems to really be unsafe. Especially for them, lower classes, they were the target of those souls that are supposed to be thrown in the kingdom of sinners.
She was certain that whoever is now is in the court of Palace, those who are given a task to take care the kingdom when the King and Queen are not around knows what is happening to their jurisdiction. They chose to never interfere because they are getting benefits of it.
If only she is not afraid of ending ones life — those thieves lives, she will gladly do it. But she knew that, that was a mortal sin, killing of even the baddest Holiester will bring their soul in hell and her mom never missed to remind her that ever since she was a little.
They should have been very thankful that she was her mother's daughter. She was a daughter of the purest Holiester she knew. The scene of them with Lady Penelope earlier in the Holy University flashed back in her mind. The level of discrimination that comes out from the royalty's mouth was on the other level.
They discriminated lower classes so damn much. She stood up and walked towards the small box she hid under the ground. Now she know that it was the thing that the royals were looking at the mountain. I found it first and I was given a chance to lay my skin on it. Gillian and her mom could never and she can.
"I am now sure that you are the only thing that they were lookin' for," she mumbled while looking at the box without getting the ball out from it. She lost of words for she didn't understand yet what really this ball is for.
"And I think, that has something to do with powers."
She turned her head as she heard Gillian's voice from behind. Her best friend was right, it has something to do with powers. When she went to the Holy University's library to find an information about a fired ball. She got a little yet not so cleared information.
"I know, I was just wondering why even once, a fired ball was never ever mentioned in the class. Not even once," she said without taking her eyes off from the box. She opened it up and take the ball out from it and she still can hold it with her barehands.
"I was thinking the same thing as well. When Lady Penelope talked to us and was saying some things I don't think should have said those things to us if it was nothing, I know this thing is important and it seems like they know that."
She lifted her head up and look at Gillian, her forehead knotted and her eyes narrowed. It never crossed her mind. She never thought of them knowing this thing.
"What do you mean?" she asked Gillian.
As her mom walked in front of them and goes towards the direction of the sleeping grandma, her attention was caught with her mom's presence. She bring her sight back to the her best friend whom now serious and in deep thinking.
"Think about it, why would they run after that mysterious thing that fell in the Holy Land? Nobody knows that, we do not know what kind of thing was that," said Gillian in her serious tone, whispering.
"Don't overthink yourself, Gillian. We do not know what is it behind their curiousity about things that is happening in the Holy Land," she said and that just leave Gillian sigh deeply.
Although Gillian has a point and she got it, she don't want to think things against the Royals, the council and Lady Penelope. She was so sick filling her mind with Royalties wrong doings in Palace council. Hopefully, any day from today, the King and Queen would personally noticed what is happening to their jurisdiction as well as the Holy Land itself.
"How are you feeling, Maricar?"
Both of them turned their heads as they heard her mom's voice. Gillian's eyed widened as she saw her grandma awake and was trying to get up. They immediately stood up and walk towards the bed where the old woman was laying.
"I am fine," grandma answered.
"Grandma, how are you? Are you still in pain? Any hurting part of your body? Tell me," asked Gillian and she was panicking. "Ouch!"
She stepped back as grandma poke her in the forehead. "Why do you sound like I was dying?" grandma asked that made Amara and her mom c***k a smila.
"I was so worried when you passed out, grandma. How can I not be worried about that?"
Amara understood Gillian's reaction. When she was in this situation, when her mom was the one in grandma's position, she suddenly felt like — she stopped breathing. She couldn't breath seeing her mom sleeping for passing out despite of the fact that her mom was a hundred percent alive.
"The food is ready, I think you should have at least hot soup, Maricar. It would help you gain your strength back."
Amara smiled when she heard those words from her mother. Her mom was always this careful, even with those Holiesters who are not this close to them. She always felt proud being her daughter and hopefully those who are in the royal chairs — with royal blood would leave her mom alone soon.
She didn't just give any comments with how royalties glances her mother. They always despise her mother for being a mother of Kean. They always accused her mom for being such a dirty woman when the fact was that, her mom was the victim. That is why Kean was never this fond with them. She don't care anyway. Whatever those Holiesters think about her mom, she said would never click her fingers against them as long as they won't lay a finger to her mom.
"Amara, are you okay?"
She flinched when Gillian touches her shoulder and looked at her with so much curiousity in her best friends eyes. She smiled a little and shoke her head.
"I'm fine. Just — just something came up my mind. But don't worry, I'm all fine," she answered and although Gillian seems to be not feeling enough with her answer, her best friend nodded.
They both just walked towards the table where her mom and their grandma was already there talking for something she didn't all about what. Among this class two village, only the four of them who always there for each other. They're both backing up.
"This is so good, Aunt Juliet," said Gillian. Amara chuckled a little for this was the always reaction of her best friend everytime she tasted any of her mom's cooking. Gillian was always her mom's number 1 fan.
*"You always say that,"* she said in Gillian's mind making her best friend rolled her eyes. She didn't say anything and just shrugged a shoulder.
*"Can you not be a traitor for once? I am complimenting your mom's cooking here and besides I am not lying. I wish you can cook like this,"* Gillian fired back that made her to stop chewing the food she had in her mouth.
She looked at Gillian who have this teasing smile in her face. She was about to speak when her mom spoke first. Amara just bit her lower lip and glared Gillian who smiled even more like she was winning this telepathy against each other.
She's glad they have this kind of small time together. This would divert her mind from the scene she had with other Holiesters and especially now that the Royals are keeping their on her. Gillian was actually right, from now on, she knows that Hailey won't just sit from the side and watch.
She admitted that royals are way stronger than she is but she would also never let them bring her into the ground. If her mom was able to stand against the insult of the royals, she can also do that — she will always do that. And she will be like her mom.
