Chapter 9:
Over the past months, since the escape from San Francisco, Captain Cox and the crew had become experts at handling the Legend. Waiting until dark would have made the transit more dangerous but lessened the chance the German warship would have spotted them. Helena knew the Germans’ last known course was to the west, while the Legend slipped off through the valleys to the east. If luck held, they should be out of sight range before dark, when they needed to leave the safety of the high-walled valleys.
