The next evening, I met Landry on the roof. He appeared a little unsure of himself. I assumed it was the part of him most people didn’t get to see unless he let them in under all the layers of obfuscation. I felt honored that he would share that much of himself with me. “Thanks for coming tonight,” he said as I sat next to him. There was still some light in the sky since it was the height of summer. “Thanks for inviting me,” I replied. As I tuned my banjo, I asked, “How’s school, by the way? Summer classes going well?” He relaxed a bit. “Oh, yeah. The students are enthusiastic, and it’s fun.
