They arrived at The Maxx Inn safely. The foyer resembled something out of a classic movie from the fifties: comfortable reading chairs to the left, seasonal chrysanthemums on walnut stands, burgundy carpet accessorized with Oriental rugs, and floor-to-ceiling windows with gold draperies. Courtney Dae, the daytime desk clerk and hostess, seemed exhausted. Her mane of onyx black hair looked frazzled and unkempt, and pockets of blackness had formed under her eyes, proving she needed some real sleep. No longer did she resemble the beautiful and enchanting Angelina Jolie, having braved the blizzard all night, sleepless and spent. “I’ve got this, my love.” Judd took charge. “You find a room upstairs and get some sleep.
