First Meeting

“Rory, do you want me to call your uncle to come and pick you up?” the nurse asked when she opened the curtains that were covering the sickbed. The lady frowned, worried when she noticed how the boy was still a bit pale. Looking out the window, he noticed that it was already getting dark outside. Though still feeling a bit weak he forced himself to stand up. He didn’t want to inconvenience the nurse anymore. “Oh, no thank you,” Rory quickly says, smiling as he waved his hand to the woman. He then stood up, trying to feel his body, making sure that he was able to move properly. His vision wasn’t turning anymore and his breathing felt much better now after resting for some time. “Are you sure, you still don’t look well,” the lady pressed her hands on the boy’s forehead, checking his temperature, making sure that it was all right now. “No, I’m okay, I feel much better now, thank you,” Rory waves it off. He was able to move properly now and didn’t feel anything weird, it seemed taking a rest at the clinic really helped him out. “Maybe I should call you house,” the nurse quickly tried to hold the boy back, still feeling a bit worried about how he looked. “No, it’s all right. Besides, my uncle isn’t really home right now,” Rory says smiling, he appreciated the woman’s care, but with his uncle being away right now, there wasn’t really a point to it. The nurse, still not comfortable letting her patient go, nodded when she suddenly thought of something else. “Then maybe I should ask one of the students to take you home,” she states. Rory ended up chuckling now feeling a bit awkward and ashamed. “It’s okay mam, I have my uncle’s pickup truck,” he informs her, fishing out the keys in his pockets to show the lady. “Will you be able to drive?” The nurse frowned again as she examined him once more. “Yes mam,” Rory quickly nodded, not wanting to cause any more concerns for the lady. He already knew that he was fit and able at that moment. “All right, you be careful now, okay,” the nurse just sighed since she wasn’t able to convince him. “Yes, and thank you,” Rory just nodded before waving goodbye to the lady, Worried that the woman might change her mind he quickly walked out of the room before she could say another word. Letting out a heavy sigh when he finally got out, Rory then started walking to conserve his strength since he was lost for breath from rushing out. The whole school was already quiet since there were no longer any students around. The sun was already setting, its rays made the whole place turn orange, giving that sad and heavy vibe around him. He was suddenly struck by this sense of loneliness and sadness, remembering how he was left out. Rory ended up thinking about his past, what happened to his family, and how he wasn’t much use during all those times. Regret started creeping into him, thinking that everything would have been okay if only he had managed to have done something during those times. Biting his lip, he tried suppressing his emotions, knowing that there was no use in looking back into the past. He has already been discarded and there was no point in looking back. “Hey, new kid!” a deep and very large voice called out. Rory ended up waking from his deep thought, he had just stepped outside so it caught him by surprise. Quickly turning around to find where the voice came from, he held his breath when he saw the tall young man who was leaning on the wall just behind him. His face was hidden by his hood, wearing a black jacket and jeans. The person had quite a large and very nice built, probably from sports or working out. “Yes?” was all Rory could answer since he could not recognize the guy. The young man walked towards him with long and quick strides, yet his steps were quiet with a steady phase and an almost hunter-like manner. Rory swallowed hard when he was forced to look up to the man, being a few feet higher than him. It was only then that he finally managed to recognize him, making him breathe harder when all of a sudden he was engulfed in a somewhat trance-like state. Being face to face with the man, he was finally able to get a good look at those pure black eyes that seemed to look straight into the soul. Though it seemed so intimidating, the long lashes and sleepy almond shape of his eyes made it so appealing especially mixed with a nicely pointed nose and thin well-shaped lips. His hair was dark like the night sky looked so soft, as it fell down even though short and had a clean cut on the side, he had this cold, stone face that added to his seemingly dark allure. The young man gave Rory a good look from head to toe, raising one of his dark thick brows that gave this look like he was always angry. “You in Maynard's pack?” He says with that deep husky voice. Rory swallowed hard feeling shivers down his spine when he felt it tickling his bones. “Huh?” it was all he could say at the moment being confused. His heart literally skipped a beat when all of a sudden this fine-looking young man leaned down on him, his face almost touching his. The young man smelled of all those nice things that he likes so much, such as ground coffee beans and fine cedarwood, instantly intoxicating him and sending him into an instant daydream. At that moment in time, he was thinking how much he wanted to taste those lips, imagining the feel of having his hands touch the hardness and shape of the man’s body. His throat literally went dry, his sweat instantly ran down from almost every part of his body, all because of those thoughts. The only thing that somehow woke him from his little daydreaming was when he noticed how the young man was sniffing him with a crumpled face, showing a mix of irritation and amusement. “They haven’t turned you have they.” He smirks as he slowly moved away. That just made Rory frown. “What?” He was now totally confused. The man did not answer but just turned, keeping his eye on him with one brow raised while walking away. Though he knew he needed to be weirded out by that action, there was just something so vaguely sexy in the way the man looks him, it was as if he was eyeing him like some kind of dish. It was so troubling because he just could not see past it. “Rory, you all right?” a deep yet calm voice suddenly says from behind him. When he turned around, he saw Maynard along with his group, walking towards him with a sharp look in their eyes as they stared at the man who was moving away. “Yeah,” was all he could say, seeing as there wasn’t really much that happened. “Did he say or do anything to you?” Maynard says when he finally faced Rory. It was only then that Rory realized that the two groups might have a little issue, seeing as how Maynard once again turned his sharp gaze at the man who was just in front of him a while ago. “He was asking something about being turned and pack, what was that about?” He answers, thinking that the man in front of him might have an answer. He didn’t want to lose the only acquaintances that he had in the school right now, so he told them the thing that was bothering him. “Don’t mind him,” Beatrice quickly says, grabbing his arms as she giggled. “Is that some kind of group that may be a club or something?” Rory says out what he thought at that moment, wanting to at least get an idea of what the man was trying to say. Beatrice let out a contagious giggle upon hearing that. “Yeah, sort of.” She just waves at him with a smile that seems to erase his worries. “Best you avoid that guy, Alex, and his friends aren’t really the kind of group you’d want to go around with,” Kyle states with an almost growly voice. “Okay,” was the only thing that Rory was able to say when he remembered the exchange of the two groups a while ago. “C’mon, we’ll walk you to your car,” Maynard’s face was once again back to its calm and cheerful look when turned around again. “Thanks.” Rory nodded. He appreciated and liked the gesture, especially since it was the first time that some people were actually paying attention to him. All five of them walked to the parking lot, all the while there was a sudden heavy tension within the air as they passed by the group that Kyle was talking about. There was an exchange of sharp gazes between his friends and the mysterious people on the other side. The said group was just sitting on their expensive sports cars, looking at them with smug and mocking looks as they kept whispering things to one another. “The nurse told me your uncle’s not home right now,” Maynard finally spoke breaking the silence. “Yes,” Rory answered without a second thought. “Did he remind you not to go out tonight?” He says giving him this sort of grim look even though he had a sweet smile on his face. Rory swallowed hard because of the sudden dread he felt. “No, I wasn’t able to talk to him.” He frowns at him in bemusement. Maynard let out a deep breath, his shoulder suddenly falling. “Well, better avoid going out tonight,” he had this sad look on his face and his smile was somewhat weak as he said those words. “How come?” Rory could not help but ask. He was now getting more curious since all of a sudden weird things just kept piling up that day. Maynards placed his arms around his shoulder before leaning close to his ear. “It’s not safe during this time, some wolves were spotted by the rangers recently, they were said to be roaming around the place so it would be best not to go out at night,” he explains with that warm tone that he had. Once again Rory was in a dreamy state, suddenly feeling his whole body heat up because of being close to the man. There was no denying that Maynard was also his type and was definitely good-looking in almost all aspects. He only felt a bit awkward since he was actually giving him a warning at that time. “Oh, okay, thanks for telling me,” he immediately answers forcing a laugh. “We will see you tomorrow then,” Maynard says when they finally got to his uncle’s truck. He even opened the door for Rory, the whole group waited until he was inside and buckled up. Though he liked the attention he somewhat felt a bit embarrassed, suddenly being guarded by his friends. He can’t help but think that something more serious was going on right now. “See you tomorrow,” He just says, waving at them. He didn’t have the guts to actually ask the reason behind it, feeling quite embarrassed with himself for enjoying the interest and attention that he was experiencing right now. Maynard and the others just wave back, smiling at him, even though they looked okay, Rory can tell that there was something behind those pleasant features that they were showing to him. Deep down he knew that something was going on not just in the school but in the whole town, since in the few days that he’d been there, he notices the weird gazes that he’d get from the people living in the town. Besides that, his uncle just left him there, after fixing all the arrangements at his school. It felt like the whole place had this secret and he was the only one who didn’t know about it.
