A Memory, 7 Years in the past
“Mom I want to know what you and Dad were busy whispering about because I heard my name..” Little ten-year-old Alyssa said to her mother with curious eyes. This was after climbing on to the bed to get ready to sleep. They lived a pretty normal life, a beautiful small suburban house in a peaceful neighborhood. Her parents both had good jobs, her father was a professor at some university while her mother was a retired archaeologist.
And she was their little princess.
“Oh, you heard us then. Sneaky indeed.” Her mother replied with a small smile, her honey-brown eyes sparkling with love as she stared into the clone ones of her only daughter.
“We were trying to decide if it was the right time for us to tell you an old legacy secret. One that has been passed down for generations in your father`s family, the Von Blaze bloodline.” She continued while joining her daughter on the bed.
“And I told your mother that this is the right time, too young or not. I want my daughter to be awake. To have her eyes opened. And to know of the monsters lurking in the shadows that we share this world with!” her Father`s deep voice uttered as he came to join them in the room.
He decided to lean against the door with his arms crossed as he stared at the two most important people in his life. His beautiful wife Hannah and his beloved daughter Alyssa.
“Dad tell me! I want to know!” Alyssa quickly shouted in reply with a pout. Curiosity was killing her little mind. She had never seen her parents act this secretive, like the secret glances they were now busy exchanging each other.
“Is it so bad for me as a mother to want our daughter to have a normal life for a little longer? Once we tell her this Ben...her life will be changed forever.”
“Hannah she deserves to know. I need to start our daughter`s training while she is still this young. This is how it has always been.”
“Plus, its for her safety. We both know the future and fate which awaits her. Her blood just like mine is also cursed to call to them. Attracting them to her like moths to a flame.”
Her mother released a sigh and motioned for her father to finally tell her the family`s greatest secret.
Alyssa quickly got into storytime mode, eager to know everything.
“Alyssa my daughter. You need to know that we humans are not alone in this world. Although we were the first to be created, something happened throughout the centuries as time passed. Some say it was caused by these abnormal Magical White creatures which came from some other world.
Their presence bringing only chaos and imbalance to our world.”
But the most known in our family of those creatures is the White Bat. It is said to have bit into its first human. Transforming him into the first abominable creature and our family`s greatest nemesis…A Vampire. An evil bloodthirsty creature that appears human but is not and preys on other humans drinking their blood.”
By now little Alyssa`s brown eyes opened wide with shock while listening to what her father was saying.
“Vampires are the greatest threat to this world my child. If left unchecked they have the power to take over this world and turn it into a personal hell for us humans. It almost happened once in a dark past and could happen again.”
“Whyyy are you telling me about them…” Alyssa spoke before her father could continue. For this was not the kind of story she had been expecting her father to tell her, especially the one about monsters and Vampires.
She was now even scared watching the look in her father`s eyes as he spoke of them, while seriously standing there in the room. She could see that he was trying to make her face the scary truth that Vampires were real and...actually existed!
“I am telling you this because you are a Von Blaze. Vampire hunter blood flows through your veins. It has always been our family`s legacy through the ages to make sure that the Vampires never take over the earth for it rightfully belongs to us the humans.
We are the chosen ones, the ones who know the real truth of their existence and can fight them back. We shall and will always be humanity`s greatest defense against these monsters who hide in the shadows.” Alyssa could see passion shining in her father`s eyes as he spoke about this.
Her mother then left the room and came bearing an old looking small treasure chest that covered the palm of her hand.
It must have come from her artifacts room where she kept trinkets and treasures which she had found during her active archeology days in tombs, digging sites, and even pyramids.
“But you, my little princess...are a much special Von Blaze. You are not an ordinary Vampire hunter like me and those before me. Instead, you bear the special Mark.” Her father continued while her mother opened the little box, taking out this beautiful golden amulet.
“Hey, it's shaped just like the birthmark on the inner part of my bottom lip,” Alyssa said in excitement while pulling her bottom lip out to show the mark.
“Yes, my little princess its the Mark of the Sun.” Her mother replied instead of her father.
“I found this artifact during one of my tomb expeditions before giving birth to you. It was as if the amulet had called to me. But I should have known it was because of you, my little princess who was still in my belly. " She continued while giving her daughter a loving smile.
"Your mother kept her find a closely guarded secret for there were some powerful Vampires looking for it too. So if they came to know that we have it, then it would have meant great danger, Vampire hunters or not.” Ben spoke with a warning. That was also when Hannah quit being an archeologist and retired just to be safe.
“But why do I have the same mark.” Alyssa curiously asked for she had always thought of her unique birthmark as some ugly looking mark on the hidden part of her inner bottom lip.
“Well the day you were born, an Archangel appeared and branded that mark on you as a blessing. His last words to us where that you were special and that one day the fate of humanity would be hanging on the line. But the choice of who lives the humans or the Vampires would be in your hands.”
“Of course, I would choose the humans Dad.” Alyssa quickly interrupted in reply. For why would she even want to save those evil Vampire monsters. No reason at all! She also felt excited about hearing that Angels really existed and how one had actually visited and touched her!
But instead of a smile at her reply, a concerned look showed on Ben`s for his daughter. Being a scholar, he knew that it was not coincident that his wife had found the sun amulet while pregnant. Then an Angel visits unexpectedly branding his newborn daughter with that same mark.
Its why from that day of her birth, he had devoted his life to doing research and finding why his daughter had been given that mark. What the sun amulet that his wife had found was really for and what awaited his daughter as a Sun Warrior in the future.
Once he found out the true reason, Ben had quickly stopped his active Vampire hunter lifestyle, packed their bags, and moved far away to some small town that had no history of Vampire attacks or Vampires. They were in hiding. He would only let her out into the world once trained and stronger.
He decided to just tell her everything which he had found in detail so that she could know the danger which really awaited her in the future. He needed her to take this seriously.
“Alyssa…” he started about to explain more-
But in just that sudden moment, everything went downhill, ruining that family moment.
A bullet shot sounded...leaving both mother and daughter to stare with horror-filled eyes. This was as Alyssa`s father gaggled out blood instead of speaking. Time slowed as he fell...kneeling down to the floor in shock.
A deadly bullet wound showing right through his forehead.
His hand was now left extended to his wife and child. Both of whom he wanted away from the danger but was helpless to do anything.
All he could do was take his last breath, his lifeless body hitting the bedroom floor with a horrifying thud.
Both mother and child`s pained sobs quickly filled the air.
