He could tell the cabin door had been forced open; the hasp with the padlock was hanging by one screw. “Those mother-f*****g-sons-of-bitches,” he snarled as he jumped out of the Jeep and raced to the porch. He hesitated at the point, listening for any sounds from inside the cabin. There weren’t any, so he went in—but cautiously. If it hadn’t been for the open cupboard, cabinet, and shower room doors, and the fact the bed had been moved away from the wall, he might not have known the men—because he was certain it had been the two phony game wardens—had searched the place. “Did they really expect to find Lycus hidden in here?” he spat out angrily.
