Chapter 9

Elijah’s POV- After Shadow fought Storm and lost, I was able to retake control of my body. He was very ashamed, he had been beaten by a girl. I honestly couldn’t apologise to everyone enough, especially to Elisa. Shadow said some nasty things, and I was not happy about what he said. Shadow is beginning to see the error of his ways. Now I am waiting for the scolding of a lifetime, from my parents, here in this car. We were still heading to the mansion, where Diana was being held captive by Victor and his hybrid children. I was just glad they didn’t send me home. Hunter was sitting next to me in the car. My parents were opposite me. Beta Quinn and Gamma Charles both sat in the front seats of this car. Doctor Brown was sitting next to my parents. They stayed silent for the most part. They were all staring at me, even Hunter. I could see Hunter was not pleased with my actions, but he seemed a little disgusted. That was most likely because of what I said to Elisa. “Well, Elijah, I think there is a lot to discuss, isn’t there,” Dad said. I nodded, but before I could speak, Mum interjected, “When did you lock Shadow away?” I gulped, “When we found out where Diana was. He was so pissed that we couldn’t go straight away. He was furious. I was afraid he would wait for me to get angry and then shift and take control. He understood why you were waiting, but he didn’t want to wait, he wanted to do this alone. After all, it is mine and his mate that is in danger.” “So, you locked him away,” Dad raised his eyebrows. He looked completely shocked. I nodded, “Me and him have been discussing things since we left. We seem to be on more of the same page now, than before. I was just trying to keep him contained. He has always had quite the bad temper. You saw how I was when I got angry, before I turned ten. Then, when Diana came into my life, his temper seemed to mellow out. But she got taken, and his temper went from zero to sixty in the past three years.” “Why didn’t you tell us,” Mum growled lowly. “I... I didn’t want you to be ashamed of me,” I whispered. “ELIjah...,” Dad said, rubbing his temples. Doctor Brown cleared her throat, “If I may interrupt?” Dad and Mum nodded, before Doctor Brown continued, “Elijah, have you been feeling these rage-fuelled outbursts for as long as you can remember? And, only Diana seems to calm you. Have you experienced any other extreme emotions?” “For as long as I can remember, yes, and Diana is the only one to calm me. Apart from despair, loneliness, and heart ache, no. I have only really experienced them since Diana got kidnapped,” I explained. Doctor Brown nodded, thinking for a moment, before saying anything, “I think you have a problem called, Alpha rage. It is basically an anger management problem that can only be tamed by the Alpha’s fated Luna. It affects werewolves more than Lycans, but it is not unheard of. I believe your grandfather and great- grandfather suffered from it, Robert. So, my recommendation for you will be to train every day, with your father, Beta and Gamma. The only other thing would be to come to me and we will have a conversation about your feelings and your beast’s feelings, let’s say every week, for awhile. Then we could increase it to every two weeks. After that, we will change it whenever we need to.” “As I said, I will do anything to make it up to everyone, especially Drake and Elisa. They deserved more time than I allowed them to have,” I said. “You will have appointments every week with Doctor Brown, until she says so. As for training, you know my routine. You will train alongside Quinn, Charles, and I. Hunter, you should probably join us as well. I am afraid it will be military drill training. You need it, Elijah, and as for Hunter, to make sure Elijah keeps up with it in the future, you will need to join in too. Same with Maverick, as he is your future Gamma, when he becomes of age. Charles, I believe you can drag your son along,” Dad responded, in his commanding tone. Everything he just said was more of an order than a friendly instruction. But I probably should ask Doctor Brown if there is anything else I need to know about this. I nodded to my father, before turning to meet Doctor Brown’s gaze, “Is there anything else that you can tell me about this problem?" "I have never seen a case before, so all I can say right now, is keep your mate very close to you. If you get angry enough and she isn’t around, it could end badly for whoever is on the receiving end of your anger,” Doctor Brown explained. I nodded, “Will you try to find out more?” “Of course, I will. I need to make sure I know everything I can, to help the future King,” Doctor Brown smiled. Mum and Dad exchanged looks. I instantly became concerned. I immediately thought that they would not allow me to become King when Dad steps down. Usually, once the heir to the throne has found their mate, they take over as King, but I know that was not the case with my dad, because my grandparents became impatient as he was twenty-five when he found his mate. “What is it,” I asked, almost throwing myself off my seat. “Well, once things with Diana and Victor were dealt with, we were going to step down and let you and Diana take over as King and Queen. We would have stuck around either way until Nicholas had reached eighteen, then we would have gone for a world tour vacation in the human world, much like my parents did. But given you have this problem, I think it is maybe best that we wait another year or two, to make sure you and Diana can keep that temper of yours under control, and to make sure your Lycan doesn’t do something like this again,” Dad explained. I nodded, I respected their verdict, “I agree with that, and I am completely okay with that. I do not want to rush things with Diana, and I do want to get to grips with this problem I am having. I know I owe Elisa some really big apologies, and I know I need to make things up to her. Two years would probably be best.” “If you are completely happy with that, then that is what we will do,” Dad smiled. I was happy about this. Shadow sat up inside my mind, he was a lot calmer now, but still embarrassed about losing the fight. “Have you calmed down now, Shadow,” I said to him. He nodded, “I am not happy that we are not there saving Diana right now, or that I lost against Storm.” “Well, we have back up now, because if we have back up there is a better chance of both Diana and us coming out of this unharmed. As for losing to Storm, you had the coming after what you said to her,” I replied in my mind to him. “I did deserve it, after what I said. But I was so mad that she was trying to stop me from getting to our mate. We need her, and now you know why we need her,” he said. “Wait, you knew. You knew that we needed her because of our anger,” I gasped. He nodded, “I worked it out. I felt how angry we were before we met her, but when we met her, I felt so much calmer. Then, after she was taken, the anger came back.” I nodded my understanding, “I understand, but you need to listen to me when it comes to strategic planning. Our parents and sister will only ever think of the safety of us, our mate, and our people. We need to think of their safety too.” There was a silence in the car, but I think my parents were mindlinking with Doctor Brown, Quinn, and Charles. But I was just enjoying the silence, and feeling a little nervous about meeting Diana in real life. I have met her, yes, but I was pulled into the Meadow, it was something completely different. It is not like being here. Plus, she hasn’t seen me in the past few years because she has been held captive by Victor. Right now, I was hoping there wouldn’t be much of a fight. I didn’t want my first meeting with Diana to be one of me covered in blood. I think Diana would be a little disgusted. I just hoped there wouldn’t be any fights. The plan when we arrived was the same. We would encircle the mansion. Make sure no one gets in or out without us knowing. Elisa would stand at the front of the house, with Drake, Cornelius, Paige, and the hybrid children that are on our side. Elisa would reach and speak to them. Try to encourage as many of the remaining hybrid children to come out, so they can be reunited with their siblings and mothers. If they can live free and happy lives. The other hybrid children will back up any information that Elisa gives them, so it will help us appear more truthful. After all these children were raised together. I had a great amount of faith in Elisa’s ability to sway them to our side. I have seen her ability to do so. She has always been incredibly persuasive in everything she wants in life. Once we have swayed the hybrid children, we will storm the mansion. Free anyone else they are holding captive and hopefully capture Victor and Virgil. Though I suspect that Drake will attack Victor, for everything that he has done to Drake’s people. I will not blame him in the slightest if he does. It will be interesting to meet this, Virgil. I just hope he doesn’t escape because if he does, Diana will still be in danger. I also have this strange feeling he will go for the most powerful women in our world. Diana and Elisa, I would say they are the most powerful women in our world, both having blood of deities in their veins, and Elisa is a hybrid too. I just hoped that it wasn’t the case, but I was still going to be careful. I had to protect my mate and my sister either way. Mum leaned forward, and took my hand, smiling, “How are you feeling? How is Shadow?” “He seems calmer. I don’t know whether it is because we are getting closer to her. As for me, I am nervous as hell,” I rubbed the back of my head. “You are going to be meeting your mate, of course you are nervous,” Dad smiled. “Yeah, at least she knows, I am her mate,” I whispered. Dad nodded, “Yes, you are right there. It was hard enough when I found out your mother was my mate. I couldn’t tell her I was her mate, but I also needed to know the full truth regarding the circumstances of her parents’ deaths. I had to get your Papa Finn and Granny Zara to help me get the full truth, without them telling her she was my mate.” I know that Finn and Zara are actually my mother’s aunt and uncle, but they were like parents to her, her whole life. With my real grandfather and grandmother gone, they became surrogates in a way. Hence, why we call them Papa Finn and Granny Zara? They were grandparents to us, without actually being grandparents, even though we all know they are just our great-aunt and great-uncle. I have been told that story so many times, I looked at Dad, and said, “Things will be hard for me. I have a month before I can mate and mark her. But Drake waited four years after he turned eighteen. If he can do it, then I know I can.” “Just do not ever bottle your emotions, that is how you lose control. I realised that with your mother’s help. Your mate will help you no matter what,” Dad said. “You had better believe it. Your mate will always help you, every way that she can. It comes from not only the mate bond but our beasts as well. They want to help their mates in every way that they can,” Mum added. I raised an eyebrow, “Is that why Elisa was so eager to help the dragons?” Mum nodded, “I would expect so. They are not only her people, but her mate is the Dragon King. Her natural instinct would be to protect and help him in any way, and being royalty, protecting your people is second nature.” “It explains a lot,” I chuckled. “You seem better,” Hunter smiled. I nodded, “I am sorry for everything, Hunter.” “Don’t be sorry, just make it up to Elisa and Drake. I tell you he is pissed that Elisa ordered us to restrain him, so she could deal with you. We have apologised because we were following orders, but he is more pissed with you because you hurt her,” Hunter explained. “He is going to be all the more protective of her now that they are mated. They could be trying for a pup,” Mum shrugged. Dad growled, “I am not ready to be a grandpa.” “Well, suck it up. If it wasn’t Elisa first, it would be Elijah. We will be grandparents sooner or later. We should just be happy for them,” Mum said. She was definitely more eager to have grandpups but Dad wasn't. Personally, I think it was more likely that he didn’t like the idea of Elisa losing her virtue. But she is eighteen and it was with her fated mate. At least she waited for her mate. I know not many she-wolves or she-Lycans wait for their fated mates these days. Males have never really waited. But my parents raised me to wait, because, well, they said that it would be far better for your mate to be your first everything. I think Dad felt guilty about not being Mum’s first everything. “We are here,” Quinn called out, as the car came to a stop. I looked out the window, as the rest of the cars and trucks pulled up around us. Dad, Mum, Quinn and Charles got to work immediately, ordering the troops that had come with us to encircle the mansion. I went around the back with Dad, so that Elisa and Drake manned the front to encourage all the hybrids to come out as they would not be harmed.
