Elisa’s POV-
When Mum told me that my twin brother had fled in the night to save Diana on his own, my heart stopped. All the blissful joy I felt from finally being marked and mated was gone in an instant. Now, here I am sitting in a car driving to find him. I was glad Drake was driving, it allowed me to focus entirely on trying to force a mindlink open between us. He had shut us out, which annoyed me. I was certainly going to give him a damn ear full when I got to him. I can understand why he has done this, but he is the heir to the entire beast world, and he is up against gods knows how many hybrids. He won’t be able to do this alone.
I loved my brother, but sometimes he could be an i***t. I felt a hand land on my hand, which was resting on my thigh. I knew immediately who it was, by the sparks that were being sent up my arm. Drake was holding my hand, either he needed my touch or he was trying to reassure me with his touch. More likely the latter.
“Do you, guys, think he went after Diana,” Hunter asked.
“If I were in his shoes, I know I would go after her. She is his mate. I would do anything for mine,” Drake replied, squeezing my hand.
“I would too,” Kenneth added.
Drake’s words made me smile. I knew he noticed my smile no matter how brief it was. Hunter placed a hand on my shoulder, making Drake growl. Of course, he would. Drake and I were newly mated, him and his dragon would most likely want to keep me locked up in our room for a few days. But sadly, we would not be able to have that for awhile with everything that was going on.
Hunter let out a soft chuckle, shaking his head, “Queen Elisa, we will find you brother. He will be safe.”
He retracted his hand from my shoulder, I smiled, “I know we will. I just wish he would talk to me.”
“He probably didn’t want to ruin your birthday or what you two got up to last night,” Hunter said, smirking. I didn’t have to turn around to know he was smirking.
“It was his birthday too, but I am his sister. He should have enjoyed his birthday too,” I whispered.
“Yes, but Victor ruined that for him. Finding out where his mate was and getting her home safely was the only thing he needed. Then, when we found out where she was, he was hell bent on getting to her. Everything else went out the window. He loved you enough to let you have your birthday and time to spend with your mate,” Hunter said.
“We will make this right. We will find him, and we will save Diana,” Drake smiled.
I nodded, remaining silent. They all tried to reassure me that we would be able to find him and that we would save Diana. But I think what most irked me is that Elijah knew not to go alone, he knew he would not be able to do much to survive against hybrids for long, but he still went, and he did not inform me at all. I am his twin sister, and even his best friend did not know.
We were driving through the woods, on another pack land, the wolves of the land knew we were coming, and I knew they wouldn’t dare to stop us once. They caught a whiff of our scents and felt our auras. They would recognise us, and leave us on our journey, protect us if they needed to. The drive to Victor’s hideout was a good two-hour drive away. I can only imagine that he walked, which means we would most likely be about half way there by now. That is about an hour drive for us. Drake had probably already figured this out.
Hunter, Kenneth, and Drake all spoke about the possible coming battle, they discussed mates and being able to mate them. Drake was newly mated, so he could explain what it was like to be mated, in a guy’s way. I could only explain it in a woman’s way. I drowned out most of it. Trying to concentrate on mindlinking or even sensing Elijah, was all I was doing right now.
After awhile, it began to get hot in the car, so I pressed the button that controlled the window. The window went down, and allowed the cool morning breeze to sweep into the car. It was beginning to warm up outside. I loved the morning, the air always smelled so much fresher.
We had been in the car for about forty-five minutes, we were almost half way. I kept looking out the window, watching. Sniffing the air occasionally, hoping to catch a whiff of his scent. But trying to ignore Drake’s scent was the hardest thing I had to do right now, so I could focus on the mission at hand. I took a deep breath, calming my mind. I breathed through my nose deeply. I gasped. I caught his scent. It was faint.
“What is it, Elisa,” Drake asked.
Hunter began to roll down his window, already realising why I gasped. I sniffed the air again, “He isn’t far. Let’s leave the car here, and go on foot to find him.”
Drake slammed the brakes on, making us shunt forward in our seats, as the car came to an abrupt stop. He looked at me, and said, “Are you sure, beautiful?”
“Yes, I am sure,” I growled, quietly.
I could hear Hunter sniffing the air behind me. He wasn’t getting much luck. But I guess luck was on my side. A huge gust of wind blew through the car. Not only did Hunter catch his scent, but so did Drake and Kenneth. Drake smiled, “Let’s go.”
We all jumped from the car, and began to follow his scent. Thankfully, we were down wind, so it would be harder for him to pick up our scent, but it wouldn’t be an impossible thing. He would eventually pick up our scent, so we had to move quickly and quietly. As we began walking into the woods, I whispered, “Whatever you guys do, let me handle Elijah. I have a few choice words for him.”
They nodded, and we kept going, remaining silent. I was mad, to say the least. I suspect this was going to end in a fight between his Lycan and mine. I mind-linked Hunter and Kenneth. Once I felt the connection, I said, “When we get to Elijah, a fight might ensue between his Lycan and mine. Whatever you two do, do not let Drake get involved in the fight. I am Elijah’s Lycan’s twin, he won’t do me any real harm. He just needs to be put in his place about his actions.”
“We will hold him back, but I have no idea how long for,” Kenneth said.
“Thank you,” I replied, cutting the mindlink off.
I was angry with Elijah. He could have been killed if we hadn't gotten there in time. He knew that but didn’t care. We moved quickly and silently through the woods. The only sounds were the birds chirping and the winds rustling the leaves of the trees. I heard a zipper being pulled up; I could tell we were close. I peered around the next tree and saw Elijah. He was crouching on the floor, backpack in hand. I held my hand up, to get the guys to stop. I mouthed, “Wait here.”
They nodded. I used my supernatural speed to get up behind him. I growled, “What the hell do you think you are doing, you i***t?”
“I should have known you would be here first, Elisa,” he replied, standing up.
He turned to face me, a small smirk on his face. He knew we would follow the moment we realised he was gone. It only made me angrier. We had a plan. A plan that allowed me time to spend with Drake, before we had to get up and go off to war. But he had to force our hands and move those plans up. He growled at me, “You are mad at me for wanting to go rescue what is mine.”
“No, I am mad you couldn’t wait a few more hours to give me time to spend with Drake. You are not the only one that turned eighteen yesterday. Yes, I had my mate there with me, and you didn’t. But she isn’t eighteen until next month. You can’t mate her till then. All you could have done was rescue her, and look after her,” I snarled.
“Right, yeah, make me out to be selfish, when you have been able to play happy mates with your mate for the last eight years,” he spat.
“Mine and Drake’s circumstances are completely different to your circumstances. We had a plan in place, but you had blow that out of the water. All you had to do was wait a few hours,” I hissed.
He raised an eyebrow, “What to wait for you and Drake to finish f*****g each other? Why don’t you tell me how nice it is to finally be marked by your mate? Did he f**k you good?”
His Lycan's eyes came out. I knew at that point his Lycan was fully taking control of him. I heard growling behind me, Drake was struggling to get free of Kenneth and Hunter’s hold on him. He was pissed at what Elijah had said to me. But I knew this was his Lycan talking, not Elijah. My hands balled into fists, and I swung my right hand up, punching him in the face with all the force I could muster. I was furious at that point. I mean how dare he.
His Lycan half shifted at that point. His claws came out. He roared out at me. My claws came out, I allowed Storm to have more control over us. I growled at him, “Don’t ever talk to me like that again. I have always done things for others and our people. But yesterday and last night was the one day that I have been waiting for, for eight years, so don’t you dare make me out to be the selfish one. Dad and Mum have the final say, you know that, they decided on this afternoon, to give me time, and to make sure that all those that were at our party last night were rested and ready for the attack today. But you force their hand by not thinking. If we went in there tired, like we will have to now, we could lose more lives. Start thinking like a king, not a hormonal teenager.”
I shoved him back away from him. He tried to lunge at me, but I side stepped him. He rolled across the ground, shifting as he went. His clothes were lying in torn pieces all over the ground. The moment he shifted, I heard Drake shout, “Elijah, no!”
Storm immediately took over. We shifted completely, my clothes tearing into pieces. Storm growled at him. He roared at us, he almost looked feral. His worry and stress have made his Lycan become more angry and violent. I was going to have to put everything I had to fight the future King of all beasts. I could feel Drake’s worry and anger coming through the mate bond, but thanks to the binding ritual, his anger flooded into me. I hoped it would help me fight him. There aren’t many who can beat the heir to the king of all beasts, but he was facing his own blood, who was also a hybrid, so it would be harder to beat me not him.
We charged at each other. Biting and clawing the other. I managed to bite on to his front leg, snapping the bones. But it still didn’t stop him from sinking his teeth into Storm’s hind. It wasn’t deep, as I bit into his hind leg. We stumbled away from each other. He was struggling to stand. I hoped that this would be the end of this fight. We were both wounded and needed time to heal, before having to face the hybrid armies. Storm gave him a warning growl, wanting him to stand down before this went further. But he didn’t, he roared back at us. Storm walked over to him, when he slumped to the ground, as he couldn’t get to his feet. She grabbed his Lycan by the scruff of his neck, lifted him up and tossed him into a nearby tree. He shifted back after that, from his wounds. Storm gave me control back and shifted back into my form.
I was wounded but not as badly. I limped over to him. Elijah’s distraught eyes met mine, a sad smile on his face, “Elisa, where are we?”
“You should know, you forced our parents’ hands,” I narrowed my eyes at him.
“I don’t remember what happened. Last thing I remember was Drake proposed to you at the party,” he said, confused.
“You don’t remember anything after that,” I asked.
He shook his head, I raised my eyebrows, “You lost control of your Lycan. He took control of you. You ran away in the early hours of this morning. When we found out when came after you. Mum and Dad will not be that far behind you. It appears, dear brother, that after tonight, you will need to strengthen yourself up, or your Lycan will keep taking control of you.”
It can happen a lot between werewolves, not so much with Lycans, but I guess everything he knew about Diana, knowing where his mate was, and having to watch me with my mate, broke the control he had over his Lycan. Especially after the proposal, which I could tell Dad knew about, so Drake had asked for his permission.
Drake came over, with Hunter and Kenneth. Kenneth had grabbed Elijah’s backpack. Drake yanked his shirt off, and pulled it over my head, to cover my naked body. I smiled at Drake, Elijah whispered, “I am sorry for hurting you, Elisa, and for what I said.”
“Kenneth, Hunter, can you help him back to the car,” I said.
“Will you forgive me,” Elijah pressed.
“You are my brother, so always. But him, on the other hand, might be another story,” I gestured to Drake, who was glaring at Elijah.
“I am sorry, Drake. I lost control of my Lycan. I will make it up to you and Elisa for the rest of my life, I swear,” he pleaded, meeting Drake’s gaze.
Drake gave him a curt nod, before Kenneth and Hunter moved in to help Elijah to the car. I moved away from Drake, heading over to my clothes. Well, the shredded tatters that lay on the ground. I rummaged through them, and found it. My engagement ring. I had slid it off and into my jeans pocket on the way here, knowing I would have to shift. I picked it up and slid it back onto my finger. I went to take Drake’s hand, but he handed me his phone, to call my parents, and then he picked me up to carry me back to the car.
