Chapter 1 : Surprised Meeting at the Ferris Wheel
College Fair
"This is the dumbest idea I've ever heard!" I protested while I grumpily looked at the sign board at the Ferris Wheel. It said that the people allowed to ride a Ferris Wheel was either a pair of couple or two pairs of couples, but NO single person per ride.
That means ME, right??! I can't even ride a f*****g Ferris Wheel on my own even if I just need to see the view from above and take some photos!
Yeah, since this Ferris Wheel was dome shaped but it could reached higher than the normal Ferris Wheel. It has some seats for couples or a pair of two couples, while being enclosed by a glass so the people riding on it could see clearly everything from high above. Not only that, it was said that it was air conditioned inside, too! So, I really wanted a ride and take some photos! But I can't even do that because I'm by myself! My best friend Katie was somewhere out there with her childhood friend - and also a friend of mine - Nate - who graduated earlier than us and was visiting us today since it was a school fair and everyone was welcome.
Besides, even if I go with them, we would still be one person less to ride the Ferris Wheel!
I glared and pouted resentfully at the staff manning the Ferris Wheel.
The staff who was allowing the people to ride the Ferris Wheel scratched his head problematically while shaking his head.
"I'm sorry, Miss. I'm just following the rules. You can't ride the Ferris Wheel by yourself. It's not just because it's for couples, you can also ride with your friend or school mates, as long as it's in even numbers. It's something about the balancing while riding the Ferris Wheel. If you ride alone, you'll be unbalancing it from one side, unlike if you have someone with you, you can both balance it from each end. It's part of precaution and safety methods. That's why each cabin can only have two or four people within it." The staff apologetically explained to me.
I understand what he was talking about. I'm not an i***t, but I still can't help being disappointed. I really want to go up on the Ferris Wheel and see everything from up there. I bet it would be so amazing! I mean I've been to the London Eye when I was still a kid with my parents and siblings, but that was long ago and I was afraid with all that glass since I'm scared I might fall, so I just kept on crying while my father carried me until I just fell asleep. So, now, I want to ride a Ferris Wheel again. It was not as huge as the one in London, but still, it would be a different experience. Seeing everything from above.
I sighed again. Feeling sad and dejected. I guess I have to try again next time. The fair would last for three days, and today is only the first day. I still have two days, and I can go with Katie or with whoever of one of our friends is available to go with me. I don't care even if I have to pay a classmate or someone just to go with me.
I was about to give up, when someone spoke behind me.
"So, it's okay if we both go, I guess. I don't have anyone with me as well, but I want to ride the Ferris Wheel, too. I just heard your conversation." The guy explained and pointed it out.
I was a bit dumbfounded and shocked. How could the tone of a man's voice would make me feel some kind of thrill?! He has the voice like those DJs I hear. He has that cool and husky voice. I bet he'll be good at singing with that kind of voice.
I slowly looked behind me, wanting to see who is the guy that voice belong to.
I'm a bit disappointed to see that besides wearing a cap and a hoodie, he's also wearing a face mask and a dark sunglasses. He's totally all covered up! But based on how tall he was and how proportion his body was, he was obviously athletic and the way he carried wearing low-key but still fashionable luxury clothes, he was probably popular and rich, too. That means it was possible that he's handsome as well.
Now I'm really curious what he looks like and what his name was? I wonder what he's majoring in and how old was he?
"Yeah, there's nothing wrong with that, as long as it's okay with the lady here." The operator answered the mysterious guy's inquiry.
"So, what do you think?" the guy looked my way.
I blinked my eyes a few times to wake myself from fantasizing and imagining how he looks without those things covering his face. My hand was itching to reveal and see how he looks like. But that was all set aside after hearing the operator and the mysterious guy's conversation and they asked me.
I automatically nodded and agreed. I wouldn't let this opportunity passed by! I want to see the view above and I'm curious about this mystery guy. Two birds in one stone!
"Are you sure, Miss?" the operator asked me once again. Making sure I'm okay with riding a ferris wheel with a stranger.
I nodded earnestly. "Yeah, it's fine. I'm about ready to pay or haul someone just to ride with me on the Ferris Wheel anyway. What's the difference?" I shrugged. "Besides, it's all glass surrounding the upper half of the Ferris Wheel, so everyone could easily see what's happening inside also." I pointed out nonchalantly.
"Well, whatever. It's your choice." The operator told me. Already resigned and as if he just want to get it done and over with.
"Thanks!" I chirped happily while I skipped my way towards one of the Ferris Wheels' oval shaped cabin. The mysterious guy followed me in and sat opposite from where I sat.
When we were finally enclosed inside the cabin and we moved up ahead a little, I smiled his way.
"Do you also want to see the view from above?" I politely and friendly asked. I'm waiting for our cabin to go higher before I looked outside and down to see everything on sight from above.
The mysterious guy shook his head. "I just want to go somewhere quiet and no one will follow or bother me. Riding this Ferris Wheel and as it go up and around, no one will approach me for even a few minutes." He told me solemnly.
"You must be popular to feel that way." I commented, also fishing for more information without being so obvious and in his face.
The mystery guy shrugged. "Somewhat, maybe, I guess. How about you, are you a school reporter or something?" he asked me while nodding his chin towards my camera dangling on my neck. It was small and handy, but the attachable lens was longer.
I shook my head no. "I just like to take beautiful photos. I want to capture the sjght from above here, that's why I want to ride the ferris wheel." I informed him.
"That sounds cool. Do you post it on your social media?" He asked me.
I shrugged. "It depends. I post watermarked previews, and I also put links on where they can order and buy the real photos. I also do arts based on the photos I took and enhanced and include music on them and post and sell them as nfts. I also have postcards and stationeries made and printed out of my photos. So, I have to capture everything in different angles so even if it's the same photo, it'll still be unique from each other." I explained.
The guy looked interested and fascinated hearing what I'm explaining to him. "That sounds insteresting. What's your social media name and your nft? I won't be surprise if you become a successful artist and a business woman in the near future." He said, praising me.
I blushed. Pleased with what he told me.
When I looked at him, I had a thought.
"Hey, can I take a photo of you? You don't have to take all the things covering your face, just look relax like that. We're starting to go high up, the background will be great, too." I suggested and asked, hoping he'll agree. If he did agree, his photo will be one of my private once-in-chance-encounter type of thing that I'll treasure.
"I don't mind. Go ahead." He shrugged.
"Don't worry. I won't post it anywhere. I'll keep it on my private collection. Something like a one time chance encounter." I explained to him to also ease his mind.
"Send me a copy, then." He told me.
"Sure."
"But you'll have to be in the photo, too." That was what he said for him to have me take his photo.
"Fine." I agreed. It's not a big deal. We're like ferris wheel comrades now. And it thrilled me to have this little secret that only the two of us knows. Meeting a stranger in a ferris wheel without anyone knowing, except for the staff.
It sounds thrilling and mysterious.
I had no idea what a shocking surprise I'll have.
