12 Your voice just changed

570 Words
"Stop crying. Your mother has died. Don't mention her ever again!" Chase snapped. Lola's went stiff as she whipped around to glower at him. Died? Is this what he has been telling Kevin? "No! You're a big lair! Mommy is still alive!" Kevin yelled, kicking and thrashing. Every mention of that woman irritated Chase, "I told you she has died and it's a fact. You'd better do as I say, Kevin Dalton. Or…" "How could you talk to your son like that? Aren't you ashamed that your boy went sick under your watch? What kind of father are you?" Lola glared at him, trembling. Chase didn't expect her to cut in. The look on his face was incredulous. Lola suddenly realized that she probably overreacted. Lowering her head, she tried to steady her breath, "I mean… The boy is too little to follow instructions… You need to be more patient with him." "Your voice… " Chase narrowed his eyes suspiciously, "Just changed." "Well… Everyone's voice will change when that person gets too angry… Anyway, this is not the point. You promised that you wouldn't interfere with my treatment, Mr. Dalton. I'm afraid I have to ask you to leave the house." Chase regarded the woman before him with his intense eyes before he left the room. Looking at Kevin's tear-streaked face, Lola felt her heart was broken, "Don't cry, Kevin. You're a little man now. You shouldn't cry all the time." Kevin sniffed and wiped his eyes with the back of his hand. Kevin seldom cried unless he thought of Mommy. Now he suddenly felt a bit embarrassed crying before a stranger. Lola said everything she could think of. And then Kevin finally allowed her to put the needles. "Does it hurt?" Spinning a needle, Lola asked carefully. Kevin's mouth set in a stubborn line, "No." Lola's eyes went red again. The boy had been crying like there was no tomorrow, but now he just swallowed the pain without complaining a thing. "You're so brave, Kevin." Lola mussed his soft hair. "I know," the boy snapped. Kevin hated it when people touched his head, but he felt okay when Lola did it. When Lola got out of the bedroom, she went to Mr. Smith and told him about Kevin's new diet. Mr. Smith wrote everything down on paper. "Will you still come tomorrow, Madam?" The old housekeeper asked. "Yes," Lola answered instantly, "I'll come tomorrow." She couldn't leave Kevin alone. "Do you need to perform needle treatment on my son every day?" Lola turned around to the cold voice as she took in Chase's metallic grey eyes. "Sure…" Lola stuttered, "I need to check on the boy." Chase stared at her, not saying a thing. Lola felt he was like a panther inspecting its prey from the bushes, ready to pounce at any time. She wanted to run away but that would be too obvious. "Fair enough. Guess I'll see you tomorrow," the man drawled only after the long and hard gaze lasted for a while, "Madam Dussa." Lola walked out of the mansion hastily. She couldn't forget the look Dalton just gave her. Did he find out? He couldn't have found out… Mia is one of the best makeup artists… Meanwhile, inside the mansion, Chase beckoned two of his bodyguards the minute the woman left through the door, "Follow her and find out where she lives." "Yes, Mr. Dalton."
