Sawyer woke up on the couch after an hour of restless sleep. He was drenched in sweat despite the fact he had stripped down to his underwear to try and keep cool, and the pain in the cuts Selene had treated was back and worse than it had been before. He kept his eyes screwed shut and focused on breathing slowly, but it didn’t make any difference this time. When he couldn’t stand it anymore he opened his eyes. He told himself that the fact he was burning up was because of the summer heat and that if he could open the window he would start feeling better.
